I’ve moved this tumblr over to https://kaasannocosplay.tumblr.com/  There were some challenges to this being a secondary blog --as a primary blog I will be able to follow people back and focus on a cosplay community. If you have been following me on this blog, I’ve started following you on the new one.

Me as Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service. The dress is made from velvet I found at the thrift shop. The shoes I already owned and head the bows and rhinestones. The broom was made using this tutorial: Jiji was adapted from a pattern from a simple cat pattern at nunodoll. The cocktail hat pattern was courtesy of Va-Voom Vintage

May I ask, what Touhou cosplays have you and your daughter worn respectively? Do you post your photos anywhere besides tumblr?
They’ve cosplayed Satori and Koishi Komeiji, Remilia and Flandre Scarlet and my younger daughter did Cirno
I post on  https://www.facebook.com/Okaasan-no-Cosplay-1706779586206793/ as well, but it’s pretty much a duplicate of what I have here.

Scavenger D.Va -- Overwatch
Ohayocon 2017
Slightly blurry pictures, I was taking these with my new contacts in and having a little trouble focusing on things up close...Pants and crop top were purchased, jacket, gauntlets and gloves were sewn out of a vinyl backed with flocking I found on the sale table at Joann’s. Goggles are craft foam, headphones were slightly altered from existing headphones, gun altered with craft foam from a toy gun.It turned out much better than I expected, I was finishing this up last minute in the hotel the night before the con.

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls
Ohayocon 2017 Jacket modified from Simplicity 1092--all I needed to change was the collar/lapel.The blouse is McCalls 7141 with a pleated ruffle at the hem. The skirt is a gently gathered Aline--I had cut it in segments so it has seams the way it looks in the drawings, but that effect was lost in photos so wasn’t really necessary. The pink ruffle is an underskirt. There are also strawberry print bloomers that you can’t see, I used this tutorial: http://abc-lolita.blogspot.com/2010/10/sparkle-stitchesbudget-bloomers.html The tights were painted with fabric paint. The cuffs on the boots are just craft foam--I should have hot glued them to the boots, I can see how they slipped down in this photo.

Finished jacket for Scavenger D.Va from Overwatch. I’m quite proud of this! The pleather was on sale at Joann’s for 6.00 a yard (after thinking my only option was a pleather in Home Decor that was 34.99 a yard). The fake shearling is from an old bed our dog didn’t use anymore. The patch was traced onto interfacing and painted with fabric paints, then cut out and glued to the jacket.

Himiko Toga Boku no Hero Academia Wadanohara Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea Matsuricon 2016 Himiko Toga’s seifuku and cardigan was purchased, but the weapons were made by me. Wadanohara’s top was sewn from red twill using Simplicity 8160. For the skirt I just drafted a box pleated skirt. The hat is red twill with heavy interfacing in the brim with a wire around the edge to give it support. The eyes are stenciled on with fabric paint and there is another wire in the peak to give it the crooked look from the manga.

Himiko Toga Boku No Hero Academia Matsuricon 2016
Created from craft foam, plastic bottles and aquarium hosing. The mask is craft foam. You can kind of see where I attached a plastic hair band (I used a heat gun to make it more like a U) along the back to give it some support at the back of the neck. The bottles on either side are spray painted silver and wrapped with black paper. The bottles on the back are liter bottles painted black. I cut the aquarium hosing into lengths and used the hot glue gun to make holes in the bottom of the bottles, inserted the hosing with hot glue to hold in place. The other end of the tubing was just inserted into the top of the larger bottles and glued in place. The belt is wide elastic with boxes constructed from medium weight cardboard and spray painted black

Ranko Kanzaki -- THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls
All those ruffles! I swear my daughters pick the ruffliest cosplays ever. I probably should invest in a ruffler foot for my sewing machine, I’m still doing all ruffles by hand which is so very tedious.

prop for Anzu Futaba – The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls
Colossalcon 2016
Anzu’s bunny pillow was pretty easy to make since it’s just a flat pillow. The body is pink minky with some white minky for the pocket. The eyes are machined appliqued, the nose is hand embroidered and the mouth is just a zig zag stitch

Remelia Scarlet and Flandre Scarlet -- Touhou
Ohayocon 2016
Remelia was originally created for Colossalcon 2013, for Ohayocon 2016 they decided to have a sisters cosplay so I made Flandre. Sometimes Flandre’s outfit looks pink and red, other times it looks white and red. Ivy wanted to go with pink so I dyed white muslin, hoping for a really light pink--it came out darker than I wanted but she was okay with it. Originally, Flandre’s wings were going to light up so I wanted to used something translucent for the lanterns that light would show through. I found an online pattern for an octahedron and traced it onto vellum that I bought in the stamping section of Pat Catan’s. I had intended to use water color to paint the vellum the different colors, but it made the paper wavy. I bought a package tissue paper in a variety of colors and used spray adhesive to attach it to the vellum, let it dry and then sprayed it with acrylic glaze. Once that was dry I traced the pattern for the octahedron and cut it out. Sadly, we weren’t able to work out using the lights but they still looked pretty cool.

Chlomaki--Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea
Ohayocon 016
Dress drafted from my own pattern. Belts constructed from strips of black vinyl and buckles from Pat Catan's. Hat has a wire in the peak to give the crooked shape. I later added a wire to the brim as well. The other photo shows a little glimpse of the stuffed lobster I attached to the hat to be Lobco. The broom was constructed using this tutorial http://rainowls.deviantart.com/art/How-to-make-Kiki-s-Witch-Broom-387490963
I spray painted the entire broom black and added a star Christmas ornament to the top and a strap and buckle around the straw
This is my favorite cosplay so far. People recognized my character! And took photos, and posted them online! And I liked how I looked in the photos--usually I don’t think I take good photos.

(Repeat ask since it got eaten!) What patterns did you use when sewing your Cure Peace cosplay? I'm making a Cure March sometime in the future and am going a little crazy figuring out the fitted bodice, the skirt is an easy box pleat but they HAVE to make a fitted bodice with cute bottom flairs to make life hard.
For the top, I'm pretty sure I used McCalls 6197 for the princess line bodice, and then modified the bottom for the scallops--but any princess line bodice pattern would work. Do you own a dress form? I made a mock up and built out the bottom for the scallops, then tailored them to my daughter. They look kind of blockey in the picture but the skirt seemed to push out the scallops so they had a better shape.  The puffed sleeves for 6187 also work for the sleeves.  I used McCalls 6999 for the tail parts that hang down in the back. My patterns involve lots of hacks and redesigning and tearing my hair out trying to figure out this anime outfit translates into real life clothing so if you have more questions or need me to explain further please message me back and I will try and explain further!*moon-cooking added in this helpful information as we messaged back and forth* “I noticed the pattern you used has a vintage look to it, which leads to Butterick B5032 thanks to Google. It has the square cut back to make my life easier ;) I'll be doing what you're doing and modding the bottom to match Cure March's scallops.”

Rosia -- Show By Rock
Ohayocon 2016
For the crop top, I just used a basic bodice pattern and shortened it, adding the sailor top and extending the tails in the back. The skirt was Simplicity 1346, using the both front pieces, since the back in the original pattern is longer than the front. I appliqued gold lame hearts and stripes to the tails. The ribbon is lengths of pink and white ribbon sewn together, the jewel is gold sculpy with a purchased pink heart rhinestone from Pat Catan’s glued in the middle.
The guitar was cut out from three layers of foam core and glued together. Originally I coated the the finished guitar with several coats of gesso and then sprayed it with acrylic glaze--the gesso was supposed to protect it. No go.The glaze caused parts of the foam core the melt and sink in, so I had to re-do it. For the final piece, I omitted the glaze. It didn’t need to be shiny. The colored parts were cut from painted cardboard and glued on, the strings were black button thread. The strap is a length of hot pink grosgrain ribbon.
