like father like son
[ "Then run," Kevin insisted, low and frantic.
Kevin was silent for an endless minute and then said, "You should be Court."
"Will you still teach me?" Neil asked.
"Every night." ]
No, but people don't GET IT how Kevin always gave chances to people who had already given up on themselves. He was the first to see Andrew and Neil's potential and fought for them in his own way.

Was i the only one who felt sad when Riko was killed? I feel a little ashamed cuz I know he was a piece of shit but. I feel sad. I almost feel like he didn’t deserve it.
No, anon, I don't think you were the only one. I know of several people who sympathized with Riko despite his actions.
While I myself was not overly sad at his death, there is no denying that his story WAS a tragedy. I think it's normal to feel some pity for him, even if that pity is outweighed by disgust and hatred. It's only human, after all, to empathize with other people.
TW's for mentions of rape, murder and torture below the cut:
As for whether or not he deserved to die... I think that's a far more complicated question, and I don't think there's a clear right answer. Was he a victim? Yes. But was he also a violent abuser? Undeniably, yes. Did he deserve someone like Wymack to give him a second chance? Arguably, yes, but he does not seem interested in second chances. By the time he appears in the series, he's already past the point of saving because he does not seem to want to get better. That's the tragedy of his character. Maybe, if help had come in time, when he was younger, he could have been saved.
But help never came, and so he never got the chance before it was too late.
In my opinion, he deserved what he got in the end. He murdered Seth, he orchestrated Andrew's rape twice (once with Drake and again with Proust) and Jean's (at the hands of other Ravens, per what Nora explained in the EC). He also tortured Neil and Jean, he nearly beat Jean to death, and he maimed Kevin's hand. Those are multiple acts of violence and cruelty which are arguably unforgivable.
Some will argue that the Foxes are guilty of similar acts (Andrew's murder of Tilda, Aaron's murder of Drake, The Monsters drugging Neil, Andrew choking Allison, etc) but I think a lot of those arguments are ignoring both the motives and the scale of what was done. Drake and Tilda were killed because the twins wanted to protect each other. The Monsters drugged Neil because they needed to find out if Neil was a threat to Kevin. Andrew choked Allison because he was triggered by her hitting Aaron and wanted to protect his brother. So yes, while their actions were violent and often morally wrong, they were born out of a desire to protect each other.
In Riko's case, his motive was simple: he could not bear being anything less than number one. He took pleasure in the suffering of others and exerting power and control over them. Even if his reasons for doing so are somewhat sympathetic (i.e. the need to be acknowledged by his father and older brother), in my opinion that does not justify anything that he did.
That, I believe, is where the difference lies.

the discoveries continue
Neil was born on the actual Edgar Allan Poe’s birthdate
so I was texting my friend about aftg the other day and a discovery has been made
so apparently The Ravens were called that because of the university Edgar Allan. As in like, Edgar Allan Poe?? because Poe wrote the poem The Raven????

To realize that Neil was more real than Nathaniel ever was is such a shock to me. Nathaniel was born to be a liar and was raised by liars; not only did his parents hide the reason he was in Evermore in the first place, but then the lies continued on with his hateful mother as they ran FOR YEARS. No one ever thought to mention to him why they were really running. Why they wanted to escape his father so badly. For YEARS Nathaniel ran, and for YEARS he attempted to escape someone—no, something—unaware of the true consequences of his actions. No wonder he was so bitter. He mentions it himself, frustrated with the fact that he could’ve been court—he SHOULD’VE been court. Yet, Nathaniel was expected to lay away his life in May, expecting nothing in return. Neil, on the other hand, was the human part of all the lies. He was so much more alive than Nathaniel ever was. Neil liked the color gray, he hated vegetables but loved fruits, he didn’t like movies or loud music. Neil LOVED exy. Neil had aspirations and goals and friends and family. Around all of Nathaniel’s lies, Neil built a home with the keys handed to him by trusting hands. Maybe Nathaniel didn’t deserve trust, but Neil deserved a home.

The mottled scars along the top of her shoulder blades were too faded to have caught his eye across the room, so she knew he'd spotted the edges of her tattoo. Last night's stringy shirt would have shown off more of the uneven lines, but she'd left her jacket on the whole time she'd been out with him.
Andrew hooked a finger in her sleeve hole and tugged it toward the center of her back, trying to pull it enough that he could get a better look at her. She'd have to take off her shirt for him to see the whole thing, but she thought he could see enough to understand what he was looking at. The jagged wings were more dragon than angel, consequence of being inked into her young skin by an inexperienced hand. Appropriate, she thought some days—the discrepancy between what she was and what she wanted to be was carved into her skin for all time.

Most sports books are like “I need to win championships so I can prove myself!!!” and then there’s The Foxhole Court where the main character is like “yeah so if I don’t win championships I will literally be executed because when I was 10 my serial killer father tried to sell me to a cult so my assassin mother stole $5 million from the yakuza and ran away with me, but it turned out that my dad was friends with the leader of the mafia, so now we also had a bunch of hit men after us, and almost a decade later my dad caught up with us and killed my mom and I faked my death, so I decided to join a college sports team to start my new life, but then I found out one of my teammates is a runaway from the cult my dad tried to sell me to, and not only that but the cult’s leader is the brother of the head of the Japanese mafia, so now both of them are after me too, and also the FBI keeps trying to convince me to testify against my father, but if I do I’ll have to go into witness protection because my dad’s friends will try to kill me and I can’t be a professional athlete while under witness protection, but luckily my uncle (who is the leader of the British mob) brokered a deal that will assure my safety if I win championships as long as I hand over 80% of my salary to the mafia for the rest of my life.” And that’s only the main character, I haven’t even mentioned how insane some of the side characters’ backstories are!
Basically this is the most unhinged book I have ever read and I love it so much
