He didn't understand what their was to worry about. He made friends at school. He was good at PE. Maybe it was that reading and writing was attrocious even for someone his age. But then she kept going and he didn't understand. He nodded, "Yeah of course, I know, is this because I'm not reading like the other kids?"

"I worry about you." Mai sits down with Luke on their old sofa, putting her hands out to her son. "There's so much out there. The world is so much more complicated than I can explain. But you know I love you, don't you?"

He nodded, and puffed out his chest proud of her. "I wouldn't expect any less from you," he gave her a little nudge as she pulled out the dagger. He reached over for one borrowed from camp, everything he owned was from camp at this point. "I've just got my memories," he said with a bit of a downcast smile. "Maybe I'll get something from you one day to count."

His camp worn dagger was tossed from one hand to another, "Lets practice."

“Okay,” Annabeth mumbles reluctantly. Her shoulders slump. “I’m not gonna’ give up either. You’ve gotta’ protect me, fine, but I’m gonna’ protect you too. You’re my family.”

She smiles, taking the knife from its sheath on her belt to show Luke it’s in pristine condition. “I always have it with me. It’s my most prized possession.”

Because of Luke's uncanny ability to do math and handle money. He is actually quite good at math. He struggles with geometry but basic math he is amazing with. Geometry gets better when he can apply it to maps and land things. All perimeter and area problems become amateur surveyor problems. Granted he struggles with reading them so that's not great and he still gets them wrong. But his base math never is wrong. Sad he never gets beyond basic math of 3rd grade.

ooc: saw a jason mun mention how jason has a traditional hero story... and it got me thinking of the other character in the books who is a main character who died also with a traditional (greek that is) hero story... its a very interesting juxtaposition that rick gives us the modern hero vs the traditional (greek) hero.

While Thalia was powerful he was being followed by things since he could remember, definitely when he was on the run. Golf Club from Boston you shall be missed. His original celestial bronze sword melted by a monster you also shall be missed. He was strong too. But now wasn't about him. "I am aware of that Annabeth," he said sounding curt more like the older brother he was than the friend he also was at the moment.

"Just let me at least try. And you know me I wont give up until you are safe." He gave her a bit of a knowing look, "That dagger was just the start."

Annabeth’s brows furrow as she looks up at Luke. “People always say that,” she says. “You’re not invincible, Luke. None of us are. Being a demigod is dangerous. Thalia was the most powerful of us all and she’s still gone.” The loss still burns in her chest, as raw and painful as the day it happened. “I don’t remember what it feels like to feel safe.”

He turned to her, looking down to her, but not down at her just down because of the height difference. There were few Luke was so fiercely protective over. Even fewer who were still alive. That number was tiny when you actually looked at the physical number and not just the word few and less. One was objectively the smallest number. Luke knew their were smaller numbers because change for a dollar existed. "And you can't stop me from trying anyway. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere."

He looked down, and frowned. He was 8, turning 9 in a few months. And she was having what he saw as a good day. They weren't always like this. And he didn't know what to do with what she said. He didn't know how to process that. So he asked, he wanted clarification, because while he understood alot for his young brain, he still didn't understand alot, "I'm not safe?" he asked his head tilting.

He let out a huff, she wasn't wrong. Of course she wasn't wrong. In Luke's life he had been outlogicked many times. Annabeth was the reigning champ of being able to make him shut up. So instead of trying to prove her wrong, or something on those lines because that was no an argument he would win. He may not be that smart, he dropped out of school at 9, if he was smart then that would be a miracle. But he knew when an argument was lost. "That wont stop me from trying," he said puffing up a bit in a big brother way.

He gave a shrug, "I don't even know where to begin with something like that. How'd you start collecting?" he asked. Luke was not one to really get into things like that. It was things others could steal, among other reasons why he just hadn't done it. Now, it was probably way to late to even try, but Nico seemed to enjoy it, so he'd let the boy talk about it for as long as he wanted to.

Nico's lips pinched together slightly, a small heat rising to his cheeks. "I--I have a lot of cards, that's all. I bet if you collected more, you'd have some good ones too."

ooc: something i think about is how chiron knew luke's home life situation and did jack all about it this man/being knew luke's mother was unstable and not able to properly care for her son, who was powerful in his own right as a demigod seeing as shit happened well before the age in which it typically does... kid was 9 when he finally ran and was running from monsters... and did nothing to help luke. and i want to explore that so fucking bad. imagine him finally coming to camp he just saw his friend more or less die, and their is chiron welcoming him with open arms and a sympathetic demeanor and luke knows full well chiron could have helped this go better. i mean he and thalia were on the run for a while before annabeth and grover came along.

like he is as much to blame for luke's child neglect/abuse as hermes and may are. complacent is the word i am looking for to describe chiron here

ooc: glad we got to see luke and percy training together... though not why percy got that one on one training... i still wouldn't call show!luke his friend (sorry)... charlie will make a great villain but like some of the acting in that final scene was off aside from the percy info dump that this show loved to do. i don't think charlie is going to handle the dichotomy of luke very well

i really don't like how that last scene with luke went. percy wasn't mortally wounded, annabeth was there (WHY it makes later seasons harder to explain) and had like no emotions to luke her brother betraying her, which is not equivalent to the book at all, they didn't treat luke like the true threat he is which like jokes on them i will be using that for my portrayal. also not allowing luke to have his monologue COME ON.

but i think for me i am going to be primarily true book based, with inspo from the show and movies.
