Knockout City Cross-Play Beta Live Now!
Knockout City, the latest game from new Indie studio Valen Studios, is set for release May 21, 2021. Ahead of that, you can download and play the Cross-Play Beta this weekend, April 2 - 4.
Knockout City is a highly aggressive dodgeball game that decides to take the game out of the school gymnasium and out onto the streets of a big city. The game was first announced during a Nintendo Indie Direct back in February, so besides the details of this beta, it’s been a while since we heard about it. In case you forgot or haven’t been keeping up, here’s that trailer that got us all excited.
Knockout City takes the classic game of dodgeball and drops players into various City arenas, including an actual city street, skyscraper rooftops, back alleys, and more. It’s bound to be a wild ride, so get in and throw some balls while you can!
As previously mentioned, this weekend is a Cross-Play Beta, which means you’ll be hurling balls with players from all consoles and PC.
When you’re done, be sure to head over to the Knockout City Discord and give the devs some good (constructive) feedback at DISCORD.GG/KNOCKOUTCITY.
Knockout City releases for all major current and next-gen consoles and PC via Steam, EA Origin, and Epic Games on May 21.

People Can Fly/Square Enix Still Working on Server Issues
UPDATE
Outriders continues to suffer login server issues, and so a new statement from People Can Fly Studio Head Sebastian Wojciechowski has been released. The statement read as follows:
WE ARE, UNFORTUNATELY, FULLY AWARE OF SERVERS BREAKDOWNS YOU ARE EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW.
OUR PARTNERS AT SQUARE ENIX ARE TRYING TO FIX IT ASAP.
As developers, who’ve been working super hard for the last 5 years to make this game awesome, we really hope that you will judge the game rather than those teething troubles related to server issues. It is frustrating for you and it is frustrating for us.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR MASSIVE INTEREST IN OUTRIDERS AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL ON ENOCH SHORTLY.
SORRY FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE.
REGARDS, SEBASTIAN WOJCIECHOWSKI
STUDIO HEAD, PEOPLE CAN FLY
This has been a terribly unfortunate circumstance for People Can Fly and Outriders Players, but it would seem the only thing we can do at present is wait things out and hope the server stability improves sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, I am sure there are other games we could all be trying out, such as the Knockout City cross-play Beta going on this weekend, April 2 - April 4.

Outriders Having Some Launch Day Issues
Outriders, the new looter-shooter (still hate that term) from Gears of War Judgement developer People Can Fly, is finally available for purchase. but has been unplayable for many players. While there have been few bugs to speak of, there have been numerous login issues, meaning mose players have not been able to get onto the servers.
Throughout both launch day and the day following, the game has been plagued with server login issues which has stalled many players from being to start up and get into the game. Developer People Can Fly has taken to Twitter numerous times to keep players updated on the situation, culminating in a “mother of all turn-it-off-and-on-agains,” just a few minutes ago.
Here’s to hoping this will fix the issue for a greater majority of players. I’ll do my best to keep the updates coming as they come rolling in. Be sure to check Twitter both at my personal @OmegaSpider227 and the official @Outriders pages for updates there!

New Look at Next-Gen VR on PlayStation 5
Last month, PlayStation revealed their plans to revamp PSVR for PlayStation 5. At that time, there were little (read: no) details on what that will look like, earlier this week, we PSVR believers were given a little treat: a glimpse at the new controllers that will be a part of PS5 PSVR. Check them out below:
Coming from the PlayStation Blog, it appears PS will be ditching the “wand” shape of the previous VR Move controllers, in favor of something more akin to an “orb” shape, as Hideaki Nishino aptly puts it. He also mentions that these controllers were designed with ergonomics in mind, so that they feel more comfortable to hold in each hand.
Lastly, and most importantly, Nishion lays out some of the features of the new VR controllers.
●      Adaptive triggers: Each VR controller (Left and Right) includes an adaptive trigger button that adds palpable tension when pressed, similar to what’s found in the DualSense controller. If you’ve played a PS5 game, you’ll be familiar with the tension in the L2 or R2 buttons when you press them, such as when you’re drawing your bow to fire an arrow. When you take that kind of mechanic and apply it to VR, the experience is amplified to the next level.
●       Haptic feedback: The new controller will have haptic feedback optimized for its form factor, making every sensation in the game world more impactful, textured and nuanced. When you’re traversing through rocky desert or trading blows in melee combat, you’ll feel the difference, magnifying the extraordinary visual and audio experience that’s so central to VR.
●       Finger touch detection: The controller can detect your fingers without any pressing in the areas where you place your thumb, index, or middle fingers. This enables you to make more natural gestures with your hands during gameplay.
●       Tracking: The VR controller is tracked by the new VR headset through a tracking ring across the bottom of the controller.
●       Action buttons / analog sticks: The Left controller contains one analog stick, the triangle and square buttons, a “grip” button (L1), trigger button (L2) and Create button. The Right controller contains one analog stick, the cross and circle buttons, a “grip” button (R1), trigger button (R2) and Options button. The “grip” button can be used to pick up in-game objects, as one example.
Some of these features, like Haptic Feedback and Adaptive triggers, are similar to what you will find on the PS5 DualSense controller. There are, however, some notable new features, such as the finger touch detection, which sounds like it could be a powerful new addition to the PSVR tech suite. It should also be noted that the face buttons have been split up between the two controllers. As movement in VR will be significantly different, there are no D-Pad buttons, but splitting the face buttons (Triangle, Cross, Circle, Square) between the two hands may cause some confusion when first trying the new VR setup.
All-in-all, this sounds like a vast improvement over the PS Move controllers. After the slow downward spiral of the career of the PS Vita (R.I.P.), this is a welcome change. While we still have no information on when the new PSVR will be coming to PS5, it is pretty encouraging to see Sony is actually still supporting the technology.
Are you interested in the next-gen PSVR? Did you have PSVR on PS4? Do you think you’ll be making the jump when PSVR comes to PS5? Let’s talk all about it in the comments below or hit me up on Twitter or other social media @OmegaSpider227!

PlayStation VR 2 is Coming to PlayStation 5!
Sony PlayStation have announces earlier today that they are introducing “Next generation of VR on PlayStation.”
On the PS Blog, Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management Hideaki Nishino writes that the next-gen PlayStation VR, which I will call PSVR 2 for simplicity, is real and will be coming to PlayStation 5. While, a lot of the post is word salad-y, there are some genuinely good bits of information. One of those bits is a line stating that PSVR 2 will connect to PS5 with a single wire. This is great news! While it certainly would have been amazing to see PSVR 2 go fully wireless, shrinking everything down to a single wire is still significantly better than the obscene amount of wires needed to use PSVR currently.
Nishino’s post also mentions a new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features of the Dualsense controller. This sounds like an excellent idea! The Dualsense is one of the biggest innovations in controller hardware since PlayStation introduced analog sticks. Controller tech largely hasn’t changed much. Having a new VR controller and games that take advantage of those features will immensely heighten the feeling of immersion in PSVR 2.
There was no mention of a release date, beyond Nishino stating that it would not be ready for 2021.
There’s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won’t be launching in 2021. But we wanted to provide this early update to our fans, as the development community has started to work on creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.
So! What do you all think PSVR 2 could be? What kind of games do you want from PSVR 2? Do you think you’ll be buying a PSVR 2 for PS5 (assuming you can get your hands on one)? Do you think Sony will be able to manufacture sufficient numbers of PSVR 2? Who knows! Let me know what you think down in the comments or on Twitter @OmegaSpider227!

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has a Release Date
Insomniac Games has revealed the release date for the upcoming Playstation 5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
A new post on the PlayStation Blog by Insomniac Games Creative Director Marcus Smith gave us some details, including a June 11 release date.
Alongside the post, there is also a new cut of the initial trailer that includes the release date at the end.
The post ends with a note about the female Lombax, and more specifically, what her name is. Well, while there wasn't an outright confirmation, there was an interesting hint. The post ends by saying
“And yes, we know you are asking for the new Lombax’s name. And it’s not fair that we put her in the art and aren’t telling you yet. Hang in there, you’ll be feeling rosy soon.” This isn't a real phrase most for most people, but if you would allow me to extrapolate for just a moment, I think we can assume the new Lombax will be named Rosy (Rosie?)

Apex Legends Rolls Out Black Lives Matter Badge to all Players in New Season
As a Black owned and operated website, Trey Omega and Omega Spider Webs stand in solidarity with the Black communities around the world. With that said, here’s the story today:
The newest season of the popular Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends dropped this week and with it came a little surprise: a Black Lives Matter badge freely available to all players. While Respawn calls out that this badge arrives in celebration of Black History Month, the tweet that revealed this also mentions standing in solidarity with the Black communities.
This has, of course, invited some players to scream into the void that is the internet about “not making games political.” It seems some Apex Legends players are getting all twisted up about the dreaded “politics” invading their precious video game escape. Clearly these players do not think too hard about the settings of the games they play, because Apex Legends already has some pretty strong politics in its lore-building.
I won’t list each and every one of these malicious or ignorant comments, but feel free to browse the collection SportSkeeda put together.
It feels good to have more allies publicly show their support for the BLM movement. Incidentally, I will most certainly have the BLM badge as my top badge and if it bothers anybody, that says a WHOLE lot more about them than it does about me.
For those who do support BLM, please, please, PLEASE, follow me on twitter @OmegaSpider227, and come check out my Twitch streams sometimes. I’m new to introducing politics to my streams, but I am working on that. Let’s make the space more open for everybody!

Concrete Genie and Control Come to PlayStation Plus
February is here! The month of love and romance! A month to celebrate Black History, although let’s be honest: Black Excellence, past, present, or future, should be celebrated in all forms each and every day. But we’re not here to argue why the shortest month of the calendar year was chosen for “Black History," (not that I’m too mad, Feb. is the month of my birthday); we’re here to talk about the new freebies coming to PlayStation Plus this month!
I know I’m a few days late on this one, so unfortunately the freebies for January are likely already gone, but that means you can go grab Feb’s games right now! And those games are…
First up, we have the PlayStation 5 Exclusive Destruction AllStars! This game is still super fresh so, here’s what the official PS Blog (biased, I know) has to say about the game:
Entertain the crowds by bringing controlled chaos to the vehicular combat arena of this metal-crunching multiplayer game*. Pick one of 16 superstar competitors, then leap into four game modes, using timing, tactics and skills to cause carnage behind the wheel or create havoc with your parkour skills. Perfect your character’s abilities – including a hero vehicle unique to them – to give you the edge in free-for-all battles or team challenges and become Global Destruction Federation Champion. The game also supports PS5’s Game Help feature**, giving you hints and tips to become the ultimate destructive machine without the need to leave the game.
Next we’ve got Control: Ultimate Edition, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners. If you all recall, this game had some hot water to soak in when publisher 505 Games revealed that players of the base Control and owners of the Season Pass would have to pay another $39.99 to play the Ultimate Edition on next-gen consoles. Here’s hoping some PS5 owners out there waited for this moment.
Here’s the PS Blog blurb:
Master supernatural abilities and wield a shape-shifting sidearm in this third-person action-adventure from Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Alan Wake). Take on the role of Jesse Faden, Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, whose New York headquarters are breached by an ominous enemy. Despite outward appearances, the skyscraper’s interior is vast and ever-shifting. You’ll need to explore – and weaponize – this unpredictable environment to clean house and repel the invaders.
The Ultimate Edition includes the base game as well as The Foundation and AWE expansions.
And on PS5 console, use the console’s Game Help feature** for hints and walkthroughs to help you solve puzzles and overcome challenges as you explore the Oldest House.
Finally, we come to our last game for this month, the outstanding 2019 adventure from Pixelopus, Concrete Genie. Set in the seaside town of Denska, players will use a magic paintbrush and Living Paint to create graffiti Genies who will aid them in solving puzzles, avoiding bullies, and bringing Denska back to its bright and colorful glory.
PS Blog Blurb to follow:
Pick up a magic paintbrush and return the polluted town of Denska to its former bright and bustling seaside self in this touching and multi-award winning action-adventure. Cleanse streets and alleyways, then use your Living Paint to create mischievous Genies whose magical powers will aid you in overcoming puzzles and seeing off bullies who pursue you. The game also includes two additional modes built especially for PS VR to let you further unleash your creativity***.
And that’s it! Your PlayStation Plus free games for the month of February! What do you think? Interested in anything? Did you hold out on picking up Control: Ultimate Edition, waiting for this moment? Did you skip Concrete Genie when it first hit and now have a chance to rectify that mistake (that game is amazing!)? Will you all be picking up Destruction AllStars and enjoying car-crashing mayhem like I will? I hope so! Sound off in the comments, or across all social media @OmegaSpider227! Catch you next time, Spider-lings!

Marvel's Avengers Update Adds New Ping System
The latest update to the Square Enix developed Marvel’s Avengers adds a new ping system for AI companions. This new ping system is something players have been asking for nearly since launch. By utilizing these new pings, solo players, or players in a less-than-full party, can still interact with hacking stations and smashable doors. In addition to that, players can ping enemies, loot chests, and objectives for teammates who may be elsewhere in the mission area.
Pinging something is as simple as aiming at the item with the trigger and hitting up on the D-Pad. Anything but enemies can be pinged, so as not to interrupt the flow of combat.
This latest patch adds a host of other bug fixes as well, all of which can be perused at your leisure here.

Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo Still Coming to PlayStation
Some big news got dropped on us this morning, Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media, and thorough them they now own Bethesda Softworks. Some questions arose from this, the biggest of which was around Bethesda published titles that were already slated to come to PlayStation platforms, such as Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Well, it seems that we have our answer, as earlier this afternoon Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier gave us this tweet (all the news comes from twitter):
This is good news for PlayStation fans, and not an entirely unexpected move from Microsoft. Xbox Head Phil Spencer has said in the past that exclusives were not where Xbox plans to focus the efforts, even going so far to say that exclusives were “completely counter to what gaming is about…” There is more to that quote than “no exclusives!” but the point stands. Despite Xbox buying up just about every studio they can, they are still willing to allow certain games to be playable outside of their ecosystem.
In the interview Schrier referred to, when speaking on the likelihood of Xbox games coming to other consoles, Spencer said, “We’ll take other consoles on a case-by-case basis.” Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella said on the subject, “When we think about strategy whether it’s in gaming or any other part of Microsoft, each layer has to stand on its own for what it brings. When we talk about our content we want our content to be broadly available.”
So it is still possible we may see Bethesda published games on other platforms in the future, but that future remains to be seen. In the meantime, this is still big news for Xbox and will certainly broaden their portfolio.

Microsoft Now Owns Bethesda Softworks
You read that right. Microsoft, the company that owns and publishes the Xbox platform, has bought ZeniMax Media, and through that, now owns Bethesda Softworks.
Today is a special day, as we welcome some of the most accomplished studios in the games industry to Xbox. We are thrilled to announce Microsoft has entered into an agreement to acquire ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks.
The full statement from Phil Spencer can be found here, and while I recommend you go there and give it a read, it is more or less Xbox marketing speak for “we are excited to be working together with Bethesda to bring more experiences to the Xbox platform.”
Of course, this is still the same Phil Spencer who has gone on record saying that they believe that exclusivity is “completely counter to what gaming is about…” So, we can hope that this will not affect future exclusive titles, and that this will only help bolster Bethesda games. Maybe Microsoft can finally get them to use a new engine for the next Elder Scrolls game? Hey, a guy can dream…

PlayStation 5 Showcase Trailer Roundup
Well, here we are! After the Sept. PlayStation 5 Showcase, we finally have the details we’ve all wanted for months: the PS5 price and release date! Alongside those details, we also got a slew of new trailers, some with release windows. The PS5 launch lineup is starting to take form, everybody!
Starting with the important stuff, the PlayStation 5 will cost $499 US, while the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will cost $399. Both systems will release on November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, November 19 in other parts of the world.
There were some very interesting games shown in this showcase, including new games which hadn’t been announced yet, such as Final Fantasy XVI and Portkey Games Hogwarts Legacy (still unsure how to title that one). We also got a look at gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The latter of those two is getting an Alpha, exclusive to PlayStation this weekend, Sept 18-21. We also found out about games like Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition and Fortnite, which will be on PlayStation 5 at launch.
PlayStation also announced a new addition coming to PlayStation Plus, the PS Plus Collection, which will make high-profile PlayStation 4 games such as God of War, Bloodborne, Monster Hunter World, Persona 5, and The Last of Us Remastered available to download and play as part of players’ PS Plus subscription.
Finally, we were treated to one more surprise announcement, God of War Ragnarok, coming sometime in 2021.
There was a lot to take in tonight, and a lot more than I included here. Hey, I’m only one person and plenty of other sites already had this information out there minutes after the show wrapped up, I’m sure.
Embedded below is the PlayStation YouTube playlist including all of the event’s trailers:

Making a Change
What’s good internet!
It’s been a damn long time since I’ve been out doing the work, but its time to come back. I’ve got some things to take care before I can come back full-time the way I used to, but I’m coming.
When I come back, the news is gonna start coming strong, the blogs are gonna start coming on strong, the streams are gonna start coming on strong, and if all goes well, there may be more.
When I start coming back, the news will of course be about video games and the VG space, but the blogs will have a lot more contentious topics, so be ready for it! The world is going wild and its long past time I got my voice out there, so it's coming!
Trey Omega is coming back soon, look forward to it!

Dr Disrespect Banned from Twitch -- Permanently
Dr Disrespect is undeniably one of the most prominent streamers on Twitch’s platform. Although perhaps I should say “was” now, as out of nowhere, the video game streaming platform suddenly dropped Dr Disrespect like the hottest potato straight from the oven (with no mitts).
Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV was certainly one of Twitch’s most prominent streamers, with a following 4.5 million strong, an exclusivity deal with Twitch, and as of late last year, even a television series in the works. It’s safe to say that after Ninja left (or likely even before), Dr Disrespect became nearly synonymous with Twitch for many viewers. All of that might have changed today.
It should be mentioned that Beahm has been banned before. At that time, he was temporarily suspended for broadcasting live while in a public restroom during E3 2019, where his E3 badge was also revoked. Well-known eSports and game streaming insider Rod “Slasher” Breslau reports that his sources say this ba is permanent. He does so in a rather blunt manner too, which I appreciate.
Beahm had built much of his following based on disguising racist comments as comedy and pulling toxic stunts and calling it content. Though Twitch has been mostly silent about the whole affair, they have provided a few different video game outlets with the following generic statement:
"As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”
Twitch also released a statement on the Twitch Blog. In this post, Twitch states that they are making a commitment to making Twitch a better platform by reviewing their policies, and their streamers and taking necessary actions against violators. The following is a snippet of that statement; for full statement please click here:
We want to provide an update on our investigations into the recent allegations of sexual abuse and harassment involving Twitch streamers and actions we’re taking. We are reviewing each case that has come to light as quickly as possible, while ensuring appropriate due diligence as we assess these serious allegations. We’ve prioritized the most severe cases and will begin issuing permanent suspensions in line with our findings immediately.
Twitch is facing a reckoning of sorts (that word has been going around a lot lately), as numerous streamers and fans speak out about the different forms of harassment that have been going on for years. Twitch higher-ups have seemingly been turning a blind eye to many of the more popular Twitch Partners, like Beahm. Recently, streamers IamSp00n, BlessRNG, DreadedCone, and WarwitchTV were all banned after allegations of sexual abuse and harassment, while many others on the platform were accused of the same. A #TwitchBlackout took place Wednesday, June 24, wherein many Twitch streamers refused to stream and many viewers didn’t watch, leading Twitch to finally step their game up and take real action.
