Let's talk about this outfit:

This is right after early morning practice in August. Jack doesn't wear collared shirts on a day to day basis, and there's no way it's cold enough Jack needs layers. What gives?

Well, we see later how SMH is supposed to dress when they're trying to appear respectable while repping the team.

So it seems like Jack might need to go act somewhere in his official capacity as captain. I bet he's got his tie in his pocket. It's fun to imagine him getting wolf whistles after practice as he puts on a nice shirt and slacks but I don't know that the relationship is there for anyone but Shitty. We do know that they do get to the point where the team gets a big kick out of mocking him when he's got to act like a big deal.

Is it for an interview with the daily? I'm pretty sure it's noteworthy that they made it to the playoffs last year (Jack's first year as captain) so it makes sense that they might want to do a feature that's more serious than the examples we see of reporters just popping up to interview him in the extras.

(Shout-out to @doggernaut who chatted with me about this and pointing out Chowder violating the dress code with his sharks hoodie. Does he get a goalie pass? A Chowder pass? Does he just eat any fine levied against him and consider it worth the price? Much to consider.)

au in which wicky is traded to the falcs and naturally ollie moves to providence with him. do bitty opens them back into the area with open arms obviously, but to be honest, he is a little confused about why ollie is here as well. like he knows they're best friends, but it seems a little excessive to move across the country just for your best friend. so after 4 months of this confusion, bitty eventually plucks up the courage to ask and ollie just stops dead in his tracks. "what do you mean why did i move with him? i'm his husband?"

bitty: "his what?"

ollie: "jesus christ you were literally at our elopement after the frozen four"

Tell me more about teenage Bitty's hopeless big-time crush. He could just be talking about a generally good policy not derived from any particular past first hand experience, or only minor mostly physical crushes that don't have anywhere near the emotional depth of what he's feeling even at this stage... but where's the fun in that?

(It doesn't come up in their discussion we see of their respective histories, but Bitty doesn't think of the dates he was on since coming to Samwell as worth mentioning - so any regrettable teenage crushes that didn't go anywhere almost certainly aren't being mentioned should they exist.)

It would be kind of delicious if it was with a hockey teammate so there's symmetry with both Bitty+Jack and Jack+Parse. It might honestly be a little too on the nose, and there are a lot of other interesting possibilities.

Also I want to shout out Ngozi for putting this right before shit really hits the fan at Epikegster. Flawless, no notes.

#the idea that barely anything happened and hes got a complex about is much funnier #than their whole deal being because of a torrid affair that ended badly

In "Hi Honey, Part II" when hiding Jack from his friends becomes too much and he reaches a breaking point, he retreats to his room to call Jack - but we can see his bed is in a similar disarray.

In a "Cup II - Summer with Jack" when he fails to come out to his mother, he's so distraught that he drops everything that he's doing. Where does Jack find him? The bed.

He regularly seeks out the physical comfort of his bed in times of emotional distress - a place that's both private and comforting. Relatable. Sometimes you just need to lie down for a bit for things to seem manageable. It's so easy to imagine this as a habit that developed as a kid.

More incidental observations about Bitty and beds below the cut.

I also had the thought that maybe Bitty just makes his bed when he normally records a vlog in his room, but there are examples in the comic and extras where we see his room and its reasonable to assume that he hasn't arranged everything just so for an audience. The big one is in Parse 1, where he's just overheard the confrontation between Jack and Parse and yet his bed is neatly made.

Bitty doesn't make his bed before recording his early morning vlog in "Checking Clinic".

Bitty starts out "Cup II - Summer with Jack" in a bedroom, but it's not his and Jack's bedroom. He's not hiding he's at Jacks, but it makes sense to be in the guest bedroom for a lot of reasons - most of his vlogs that we've seen seem to start in a bedroom, and being in Jack's is obviously very intimate and their relationship is still a secret. He's comfortable enough existing in the apartment and his relationship that he goes to the bed that he shares with Jack for comfort - which isn't surprising, but he's just had a conversation that called into question if it's right for him to stay there and how he fits into Jack's life so I think it's worth noting. Jack's got a photo of the Samwell Bridge and his Samwell Jersey framed in his guest room - nice.

i noticed too while rereading that while bitty's bed is often in frame, his bed is usually made & pretty neat. but after he has the moment with jack in the kitchen and has his realization.... his pillows were mussed up, almost like he was screaming into one of them. or punching them? either way he's so relatable i love him

We like to riff on the idea of Holster having beef with Jack, but he still voted for him for captain. Which isn't a contradiction, but it is fun to think about what it says about the nature of their relationship if you're also playing into them having a petty rivalry.
