The Time I fell in Love with my Cat
Febuwhump Day 14: Blood-stained tiles
Fandom: My Hero Academia
Izuku x Himiko
Short scene from a fic that I'm writing. I plan to put this scene into a future chapter.
Synopsis:
Izuku is a lonely boy. His mother suggests that he gets a cat to keep his company. He goes to a local shelter to find one, unknowingly adopting a young woman who'd been cursed to be one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the far side of the roon, the cat was still eyeing him from inside her cage. Bawled up, hair standing on end at the corner of the opened crate.
At the very least she wasn't yowling or hissing at him like before.
He moved slightly, shifting in his seat on the couch to rest is elbow on the arm rest.
The cat began to let out a low growl.
He sighed, deflating more into the cushion of the couch. "I'm not going to hurt you." he said, a touch tiredly.
The cat let out a loud hiss, eliciting a faint, nervous squeal from him. "U, u-u-u, okay. J, just take it easy-"
She let out another hiss, more loud and more threatening than the former.
He closed his mouth, deciding to stay quiet as not to evoke her more.
Carefully and slowly, he slid his hand to the side of him to slide the phone out of his pocket.
He took another look over at the hissing feline before quickly going to the internet.
How to make a new cat feel more at home?
Various links, some sponsored some not, appeared on the screen.
He'd read some of these websites just a day prior, some even just hours ago.
He'd cat proofed the house, he'd placed cat toys throughout it and he'd even sprayed catnip in a few areas of the home.
He'd listened to another comment on a separate website, where it stated that it would behoove him to place a blanket over the crate to create a sense of protection and for the cat to feel more safe and secured.
He looked over again.
The dark blue blanket was covering all sides of the cage with just the material of it a few inches from the floor.
Underneath of it, the cat's eyes were locked directly at him.
The nervous smile came to his face as he went back to his phone.
Another suggestion.
To leave the room and to leave the cat alone and without feeling the anxiety of your presence. This one, he had second thoughts about as this particular comment had garnered both positive and negative responses.
More so, negative.
And the original poster's rebuttal?
I didn't say to leave the house for a day. I said to let the cat have its space without you hovering over it. It's scared in it's new environment. You standing over it and watching it 24/7 isn't going to help much either. And you can still look after it and peep in every now and again or watch from afar on the cat's doings and whereabouts.
Was he hovering?
Not necessarily but he was staring quite a bit and he was only just a few yards away.
Maybe that was too close to comfort for her.
This person could be wrong. Or, right.
Nevertheless, it was a possibility and something that he could do...?
He furrowed his eyebrows in thought.
Well, he doesn't have to go too far. Maybe another room would suffice.
And, maybe he should give it forty minutes or so?
He nodded at the thought and locked his phone. Keeping his eye on the furry, spiked puffball that was his cat, he got up slowly from his seat and made his way to the hallway that was, ever so conveniently, beside the opened cage.
He took slow, light steps across the hardwood flooring, now hearing more of the cat's yowling.
"It's okay," he whispered. "just... walking past..."
He walked just to the side of the cage, as far as he possibly could, with his arm now rubbing agaisnt the wall.
There was a bang from inside of the cage, followed by a hiss and a long, loud yowl.
He picked up his pace, scurrying up the hall and towards his room.
He stepped foot inside and immediately peered back out from the wall.
The cat was still yowling.
He let out a long, deep sigh and leaned back into the room, grabbing the edge of the door.
It made a shrill creak as he pushed it to a near close.
He waited by the threshold for a few moments before shuffling his feet towards the futon. He crouched down and sat on the covers.
And now, he waits.
-give the cat some space-
He pulled his phone back out.
Use this time to garner more information as a new pet owner of a cat.
That would be using his time wisely.
How to make a cat happy in her new home?
Izuku glanced back at the time.
More than an hour at past.
"Uh-!" he jolted up and made his way for the door. "I was so focused on my reading, I lost track of time." he said aloud.
The door creaked open and he jogged out then quickly thought about it before coming to a near halt and taking slow, cautious steps down the hall.
I wonder how she's feeling now?
He took a step just on the side of the cage and was ready to hear another hiss or a yowl.
Nothing.
He took another step forward.
No hissing or yowling.
Did she end up falling asleep?
He bent down and immediately thought of what'd happened just hours earlier at the shelter and took a few steps in front of the cage before bending down and peeking inside.
His heart jumped in his chest.
A lone cat toy and the several pieces of cat treats over the cushioned interior of the kennel.
No cat.
He sputtered as he jerked his head left then right, searching the living room.
No cat in sight.
"This isn't good!" he pushed himself up and turned around. "HA?!"
The entrance of the kitchen was directly in front of him. The sunlight coming through the light colored curtains of the window. The curtains flowing gently in the breeze by the cracked open window.
And the cat, head through that said window, with her teeth grabbing hold of the net of the screen, trying to rip it open.
"AH!" he ran inside. "Noooo, no, no, no! Y, you don't do that!"
The cat placed her paws on the screen, scratching at it.
He ran to the counter. "Mikan," he called out.
The cat let go of the screen and whipped around, taking a lounge at him as she hissed.
He backpedaled, screaming.
The cat's bushed up tail flickered back and forth as she began to growl.
He raised his hands up in a placating manner. "S, sorry. But I can't have you ripping up the screen and running out.." he said gingerly. "You could get hurt." he took a step towards her and she lunged just to the edge of the counter.
"T, this isn't going to work...-Mm." thinking back on those websites and with the situation he was in now and with the resources he had with him, he grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled the article of clothing upwards, taking it off.
He held it up with both hands.
Now, if I can just get a bit closer to her, I can wrap her up in my shirt.
Of course it also says that one should use thick gloves... but I don't have them handy right now.
He took another step, eliciting a louder yowl from her.
"E, eaasy does it." he said meekly. "I'm... just walking... over to you..." he took another courageous step. "Eaaasy, d, does it now... good kitty." he took another step. "niiiice kitty..."
The orange, tanned fur puffed up around her and he red eyes widened as her ears pinned back towards her head. Her body laid lower to the counter.
He continued to close the distance between them, stepping closer towards her.
The cat eyed the piece of fabric as he hoisted it farther up. A dooey, nervous grin came to his face. "J, just... a little... bit... clo... ser..." he took another step. "Now," another step and as he moved his hands forward the cat jumped off of the counter.
He screamed, pulling his arms back, blocking his vision with the shirt. He felt four paws hit his stomach before he felt claws dig into his skin.
He stumbled backwards, shouting out as he tried to pull the shirt away.
The cat was still on him, pinning the shirt between them and clawing and scratching at his stomach and his chest.
His foot tripped over something sleek and cool feeling, immediately realizing it as Mikan's dish holder. He fell back, water spilling onto the floor as the bowl tipped over, mixing with the bits of food that'd dropped in the process.
His back hit the fridge and he felt a paw hit just above his collarbone before the weight of the cat was off his chest.
Yet, the yowling continued.
He threw the shirt down to see the cat glaring at him.
He took a step to the side and away from her with a soaked foot before she lunged at him once again.
He screamed, pulling his leg back as the cat grabbed hold of his foot, biting and clawing at it.
"Let go!!" he shouted, shaking his leg.
The cat climbed up his leg, her nails digging deeper into his skin. He leaned down to grab her when she swatted at him with both paws.
Grinding his teeth, he half stumbled half fell towards the corner of the kitchen, quickly fumbling and grabbing an old mop, dropping the shirt in the process. He moved the head of the mop towards the cat, both trying to be gentle and trying to encourage her to let go.
He put the head of the mop on the cat's face, moving it around.
She swatted and bit at the tassles of it before eventually grabbing it with both paws and Izuku pulled his leg back from her back claws.
He placed the mop, indirectly the cat, onto the floor as he hopped farther away on the other foot.
He panted, watching the cat closely as his skin stung in pain.
The yowling continued but the cat let go of the mop.
He kept the broom diagonal of them as he hopped another couple of feet away from her and out of the kitchen.
Well... that didn't quite go as planned.
His nervous look hadn't faltered and his eyes never left her.
She began to walk slowly towards him and he hopped a few paces back, his shaky arms holding onto the mop.
She stopped over one of the blood-stained tiles, eyes staring at him for just a few seconds more before looking away and lapping up his blood.
He swallowed.
Are... are cats supposed to do that?
His trembling arms continued to hold onto the mop as the cat licked the area clean before moving to her side and licking another spot of blood.
She stopped abruptly and licked her lips.
He could hear another faint growl from her.
He hopped another few steps back.
What exactly had he gotten himself into?
Running with the wolves
@febuwhump Day 18: Too Weak to move
The automatic doors slid to a close behind her as she strolled forward across the platform with several other bystanders.
Sending a message to Yaomomo,
On my way back to the house. Ended up getting too carried away with work
she'd pressed her thumb over the button and the note was sent. She then slid the phone back into her opened purse as she stepped foot onto the elevator.
She leaned her elbow on the slow moving rail as she shifted the weight on her left foot, letting the mechanical stairs pull her upwards to the next floor of the metro.
An announcement was made for four different train systems, echoeing throughout the station.
Upon hearing the departure information, a group of people pushed past on the right of her while others stayed behind.
As she stepped off of the elevator and towards the faregates, she wondered about the potential of the new coming site she and Thirteen were making.
They had the schematics, the diagrams, the tools, the man-power, the passion, the seemingly never-ending ideas-
She tapped the metro pass on the face of the scanner and walked through.
Sure, there was the lack of money and precious time draining away day by day BUT, they had something.
They just needed a better execution of it.
That and more money.
And, pherhaps they could use a bit more. -A lot more- people.
And one could have more tools and heavy duty equipment.
And, maybe the outline and the diagrammatic presentation of the buildong could use a bit more tweaking as well.
Nevertheless, they had something that would be quite unique and wpuld benefit the society.
Ochako walked out of the entrance of the station. Taxis were lined up and buses rode past, some leaving their stops as others slowed to a stop to let passengers off.
She made her steps away from the entry and some the public transit system as she ventured to the side of thr station towards shops of varying types.
Maybe we can make the place a bit cheaper. If we can do that, that may pique more people's interest.
She walked across the street to the next.
We could even have some kind of giveway on our opening day.
Or some kind of bonus if we get our own cards.
Maybe I should run that by Thirteen. Have some sort of a point card where they can earn and build up points.
What about complimentary food? Or toiletries?
Ochako moved her arm as she placed a hand inside of her purse. She pulled out a small notepad with a silver coated pen clipped to the top of it. She pulled the utensil from its holder and began jotting down the ideas as she trodged and weaved through the passerby.
Should the food be space themed as well? That's not too much? It wouldn't make sense if there weren't any space themed food. Or at least the snacks should be.
Alarms could be the sound of a rocket taking off.
Or would that be way too noisy?
Astronaut robes? Would... would people like that? Or soap shaped like rockets or stars or different planets-
Something hard hit her shoulder. "Watch it!" she stumbled at the blunt force as she turned her head at the tersed voice. "S, sorry." she said meekly.
The man narrowed his eyes at her and her own eyes couldn't help but look at the tan-colored substance around both of his own and his pinpricked pupils.
Her breath caught in her throat and she stopped, causing someone else to bump into her. She heard a sharp, 'excuse me' behind her as the person went around her.
"What are you looking at?" he stepped up to her, letting his chest hit her shoulder.
Her eyes were leaving his silver colored hair. She shook her head fervently. "N, nothing." and she took a quick step forward before stumbling into a brisk walk.
She peaked over her shoulder and the young man was still glaring at her. She turned back around and kept up her pace, fumbling with her pen as she tried pushing it back into its holder.
Now the idea she was about to write was lost.
What had it been about?
Something in regards to curtains or... a lamp? Carpeting-
A spaceship themed couch for kids.
She pulled the pen from the notepad and jotted down the idea before placing the pen back with a click.
She took another peak behind herself to see a crowd of people yet he wasn't amongst them.
"Phewf." and she felt a bit silly, letting out an embarrassed chuckle.
The time had ticked on to ten then fifteen minutes as less cars, bikes and people were seen. In front of her, a near abandoned playground was coming up. She stepped off of the sidewalk and into the dirt path, passing by a split seasaw with each of the two split ends dug deeply into the ground, a slide filled with dirt and leaves then a swingset with only the chains swinging faintly in the breeze, the seats, having been torn off years ago.
The dirt had made way for a light forested ground of dry grass and mud with patches of flowers scattered about. That'd too made way for the entrance of a small wooded area with a grove of trees towering over her.
She stamped through, making her familiar way up the path as she pushed past thin branches raking past her arms and legs.
She waved a hand upwards, pushing a limb of thick leaves overhead as she past underneath it, with the other fanning over her face of any near invisible spiderwebs or an occasional firebug.
As she walked deeper into the woods, the trees began to close in as their roots multipled and bulged outward across the mud ground. She watched her step-as she always do-, now picking up her feet and stepping onto a both desired and familiar path while she ventured further and towards a break of the wooded area.
"Fewf!" a bug flew past her lips and she swatted with her hand. The rain from just that morning made the ground that more slippery and soft, allowing the dirt to stick and cake to the bottom and side of her shoes.
A lone bird cawed as it left its perch, flying from one branch and towards the sky; the night sky that she could barely make out within the crowded head of leaves above.
An overturned log kept at its place, still, after years. She placed both hands on top of its mossy surface and placed a foot between her handholds before pushing up. Keeping her crouched position, she brought the other leg up as she turned her body to her side, keeping her balance with her fingers.
She stepped down with one leg as she heard the sound of twigs and grass being cruched underfoot.
She turned to look behind herself:
The trees, the grass, the leaves, stumps, dirt.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
She turned back around, lifting off of the next foot and planting it on the ground with the other.
Snap
She jerked her head back.
Something black had darted to the side and into a mangle of bushes just yards away.
Or so she'd thought.
It could've been the trick of the eyes, the swaying of the trees casting a shadow or any other reason.
She kept her eyes on the bushes for a few moments longer and when nothing peered from behind she took a step back then another, then a third step before slowly turning back around, continuing her walk, now a bit quicker.
She took a quick look back to see nothing. No figure, no shadow. Just the forested area she'd grown so accustomed to.
She looked forward.
Just another five minutes in the walk and she would see an opening to her left to walk out of the wooded path and into a side alley that would turn into a local street filled with bright signs and loud civilians.
The tip of her foot hit just underneath of an uproot and she stumbled forward, nearly falling as her breath hitched at the sudden bank forward.
She shot back up and kept up with the falling momentum, now going for a very slow jog up, shoving the drooping branches with an arm or shoulder.
There was a cracking sound, like that of a branch giving out before the sound of something falling through leaves and into the ground sounded directly after.
She twisted to her side, looking to the left then right of her, seeing nothing.
Mouth opened, her brain torn to speak up or to keep quiet.
She heard the grass being crushed swiftly with the quickened footsteps of a run nearby her.
She jolted in a turn, steadily looking left then right then turning once more.
"Uh..... h, hel-"
A low growl was heard with the snapping of branches.
She took a step back and with another turn, she saw a furry figure lunge from just yards behind her to a base of the tree.
She took a shaky step back as her heartbeat began to quicken.
The figure's darkened head peered from behind the tree-
She ran.
A blur of green, black and brown tainted her vision within her squinted eyes as she swiped and ripped the branches and tiltied leaves.
The footsteps had sounded close and the growling only grew.
She felt something grab at the back of her shirt.
She screamed.
Her shirt snapped back to her body and the footsteps now sounded farther away.
She turned back around.
Nothing.
A howl tore through the air, complimented by the sound of heavier growling.
Just several yards away, a pair of red eyes looked to be floating as the figure's blackened body near blended in with the night.
She stopped, her feet sliding across the mud as the eyes shot past in its run.
She fell to her butt, hands gripping at the mud and grass before pushing herself up as something heavy tackled her shoulder, warmth and fur enclosing her as she fell across the grass.
She screamed out as something sharp bit at her shoulder, while something like claws dug into her arm, back and side.
Head on the ground, grass and dirt bleed into her vision as the blades stuck into her eyes. She slid her face up, trying to get the thin stems out of her face as its body on either side of her began to close inward with the sharpness digging further into the skin of her back.
A pair of pink boots fell in front of her, splashing mud into her eyes, stinging them more.
"Stop." the voice was sharp and abrupt.
The piercing feel on her neck, arm, back and side had stopped as she heard a small whine like that of a lonely or frightened dog.
"Let go. And leave at once." the shrill voice continued.
The sharp feel like knives lifted up from her neck and arm. Then, her side, then her back. Her side pressed more into the ground. The warmth had left her body and the cool breeze of the night chilled her skin and burned her wounds.
The footsteps were walking away from her.
Her eyes began to flutter as her breath began to shudder. She could barely feel her body, save for a very faint ache of her muscles.
Shallow breaths weakly panted out from her opened mouth.
"Oh dear," the voice said sadly. "I am afraid... that we are too late."
She forced her eyes -now heavy- upwards yet the blur in her vision made it impossible to see the face or even her surroundings.
Too weak to move.
The control left her body and her face fell with a slide towards the ground. Eyes listless and mouth opened.
She couldn't move.
Barely breathe.
A mix of dark colors blanketed her mind.
Yeah, I just wanted a bit of a break with writing and get some things situated life-wise. I do plan to start taking a handful of stories out of that collection and start making them public again. Right now, I'm editing the stories and writing more for them. I would like to have some chapters up so I could quite possibly have a near decent posting schedule. I reckon it'll be a few months before I start posting the stories again. But, we'll see.
Appreciate the ask ✌️
Haven't reblogged this in sooo long. Go ahead and check it out 😉
Btw, I know that's how the Proud's house used to look. This is a pretty old drawing. I plan to have someone make a new one for me and post the new house from Louder and Prouder. 😎
Currently working on a Proud Family and Steven Universe crossover 😎👍
It was suppose to be a joke kind of fic but it turned out to be a nice, slice of life fic with some angsty bits here and there. I'm still writing it and so far I'm liking how it's turning out :)
okay not sure how to approach this gently but say that, hypothetically, you own some essential oil sprays purchased from a huge department store chain. and there is a recall because they contain deadly disease causing bacteria that has confirmed deaths and has infected and killed who knows how many people because of how rare and difficult to diagnose it is in the united states:
do not throw out the bottles. do not dump the product in the toilet. do not allow the deadly bacteria into the soil, water supply, or landfills. it is an extreme biohazard. do not throw it out. do not throw it out. do not open the bottles.
put on gloves, double bag it tightly in resealable bags, put it in a cardboard box, and give it back to any of the chain's stores. disinfect everything in the room where it was used while wearing gloves. wash sheets and blankets on hot. consider using bleach.
What was initially thought as a school that would help Steven master his gem powers soon turns into something more relentless and dangerous when he and the class of 1-A are faced with upcoming villains who have sworn to officially take down the Symbol of Peace and everyone else with him.
In the meantime three other rulers are lurking in the shadows that also have much bigger plans of their own..
