I love this but wasn’t Astrid the first to flee the scene? 

Just a thought.

Before meeting Grimmel, Hiccup studies his map and his father's diary.

And, as you may remember, there is a small fight next, and a fire starts in Hiccup's house.

But in the next scene in the assembly hall, Hiccup uses the map and book again.

Question: how did the book and map survive the fire? 🤔

I assume it was Astrid who pulled the book and map out of the fire. She knew that these things were important to Hiccup, and she alone had fireproof armor and free hands (Gobber carried Fishlegs, Valka held a shield and staff, Hiccup held a sword and shielded himself from the smoke with his free hand).

Then it is quite symbolic that in the scene on New Berk, she gives the book to Hiccup. 😌

P.S. Or the Vikings just put out the fire in time, and the book and map survived. 😄
