okay but can you IMAGINE like, underhill and alec are friends outside their working relationship so when underhill finally seals the deal with lorenzo and needs to spill the beans, he goes to alec. the two of them are at a bar somewhere and underhill is recounting his successful night like

“lorenzo is such a gentleman. he invited me in and made me a drink, his secret, personal old fashioned recipe. he says making it by hand makes it taste better. then he took me on a private tour of his art collection.” underhill shakes his head to himself, remembering how lorenzo lit up as he was explaining each new piece. “and then he showed me all these paintings of his life and we ended the tour upstairs right outside the bedroom.”

and as underhill continues taking about all the art in the bedroom (“he called me a work of art, alec! he’s really so charming.”) alec is downing his drink in one long swallow and trying find a way to break it to magnus that he accidentally went on a date with lorenzo while they were breaking into his house.

I was rereading LRHWY over the last week and I found this one detail that I absolutely adore.

When Alec was Missing In Action, in those 8 months that he was presumed dead, Magnus used to keep a hand on his heart and check if his heart was still beating.

Because if his heart was beating, then that meant that Alec was alive.

I’m ngl I had forgotten about that detail and when I reread it, I adored it so, so much. It was such a Magnus thing. It was so heartbreaking and beautiful.
