Mmmmm some angsty Patho and Dbubs for @aquaquadrant bday (that was a while ago but I’m SLOW) ???

Based off the bit from ~ THIS FIC ~

he’ll leave without warning in the middle of the night, while dbubs is sleeping, because trying to leave while dbubs is awake never ends well. he’ll leave without a word and try not to think about the frantic whispers he knows dbubs sends him on lonely nights, despite knowing patho will never receive them

HELLO YAGO !!! first, im in love with the au and im so glad its back second, you said that everyone started to treat etho 'like he's an expensive vase in a museum', but was he in fact so fragile? should he really 've been more careful? first question that came to my mind while i was reading the post also hugs and kisses and yayy recks au

HI HI HI HI HIIIII !!!!!!!!!!!! im glad you're loving the au 🥺

and well, after getting his big prosthetic i wouldn't say etho was fragile, but physically he was in a weaker state for sure, yes.

after such a long and complicated surgery his body needed time to adjust and heal properly, which meant etho had to rest a lot and everyone made sure to remind him of that every chance they got. the prosthetic also did indeed need time to set in, and etho had to stay in the hospital for a while just in case something malfunctioned.

really its all the "oh you can't stay up late your body needs sleep", "oh you can't sit like that what if the prosthetic didn't take properly yet", "no you can't eat that you need to start with simpler foods", "are you drinking clear water? are you sure this water is filtered?" that really got him. it made him feel weak and fragile and stupid with everyone so worried "for no reason" constantly.

and, yknow, etho was on his own most his life, not used to such amounts of care, especially when its unwanted. so the whole experience was very jarring. and mentally it put him in a bad place. and being in a bad place makes it hard to focus in extreme situations.

so him signing up for that race and tripping wasn't just on a whim stupid decision, there were definitely reasons. but there were also other ways to deal with the stress and situation in general...

#really that whole period was just #etho 🤝 bad decisions

okay actually, this ask made me realize a couple of things. while scrolling searching for what would be considered a little fact about him, i realized that the way i draw etho is actually how he looked 10-15 years from the "current time" of the au. im just too used to drawing him young 😔

so i guess your fact for today is that etho should look like this. not too different but still

jokes aside tho (i mean he did lose his eye to a rock but there's some more context to it), there's such thing as Horse Head Farms (later referred to as hhf) if anyone remembers what that is, and in recks au those guys host races across the desert, which is a good way to Get Rich Quick if you can win.

and, you remember that big vitally important prosthetic etho got? well, he was able to get it of course, his life depended on it, but it also put him in some serious debt. nothing unmanageable of course, the health system provides some good insurance programs and generally helps a lot of its patients as best as it can etc etc, but etho is etho, he can't just be like everyone else. he can't just be normal.

after spending some time recovering from the surgery and getting used to the prosthetic and his new lifestyle, etho was feeling a but uhmm irritated. because suddenly everyone treats him like he's an expensive vase in a museum and he has to be careful around everyone and everything and oh he's so fragile. and that annoys him. a lot. and there's probably some hormonal stuff involved after the surgery but who cares about that stuff. point being, etho is not feeling good and he wants to do something fun and dangerous.

so he signs up for a hhf race, on his hoverboard, not yet fully recovered, quite rusty, against people with better equipment, in the middle of a scorching rocky desert...... i mean, have i mentioned that he's actually very smart?

well, one thing after another, he gets bumped or just trips or something and goes flying, lands on a rock, boom bam eye gone. (he lost the race also but that was pretty obvious)

tango was also participating in that race, also on a hoverboard (tho tango is much better on it), so he reported etho to the emergency team, plus he and etho were able to meet after not seeing each other for yeeeaars, admittedly tho it was a pretty embarrassing time for etho to meet anyone.

he's fiiine tho, he had to walk around with an eyepatch for a bit but he got the prosthetic eventually.

I'm so curious, but it's okay if you do not have an answer for me; did something happen to Etho in your recks au for him to need all of those robotic prosthetics, like an accident of sorts? Or did he, I guess, experiment on himself or something like that?

Wonderful design, by the way! I can't stop looking at it, I love it so much.

so, as you may or may not know, the world of recks suffered from a catastrophe caused by the moon going off its orbit and almost crushing into earth; which caused the creation of many gravitational anomalies all over the planet; which caused most of the big cities to evolve downwards and move under the sea level; which created this odd phenomenon of many skyscrapers in the middle of the city being abandoned and staying vacant, even if the buildings are technically fully operational.

and so teen etho, our smart little boy, thought "Hey, i don't wanna live so low underground where the sun doesn't reach when there's perfectly good houses on the surface!" so he just kinda... left his home and moved to one of the abandoned buildings. which, i mean, good for him and all that. BUT.

see, the thing about run down buildings is that they don't have a good water supply. and the thing about water in recks au is that it has a ton of bad chemicals, moon debris, leftovers of destroyed infrastructure, etc, in it when unfiltered or filtered poorly.

and etho, although smart, wasn't smart enough to give proper attention to the metallic taste of the water in the building he moved in to. like, sure it tastes a little weird but otherwise it's fine, it's something you would expect from an abandoned skyscraper right?

well, little did he know that the water he drank for god knows how many years of his life, was actually slowly dissolving his insides and poisoning him! and yknow, sharp pain in your guts every so often is one thing, but actively coughing up blood is another. and thank god he met cleo by then, because they forced him to actually do a check up to see what was wrong.

everything was wrong how you might've already guessed, to the point where the damage wasn't reversible anymore and there was no way to heal naturally. sooo etho had to get the prosthetic and say goodbye to his organs. the other option was to say goodbye to his life tho so he got pretty lucky there i think. thankfully cleo is a prosthetics doctor neurologist person, and she was able to get everything sorted fairly quickly for him and get that man on the operating table as soon as possible.

so at the end, all of etho's vitals had to be changed, including his throat and lower jaw because it also god badly damaged by being in contact with the water. (turns out etho had the raspy voice not because he was cool but actually because he was dying 😬) and! let me tell you, removing someone's entire set of vitals and changing them for the artificial ones in one surgery without killing the person in the process is actually very hard!! who would've thought huh...

well uhmm, yeah so this is what happened to etho o3o

(the eye prosthetic is another story tho, this post is already pretty long so maybe next time)
