Please please please I know we all love Friends and Chandler was our favourite character and Matthew always put a smile on our faces and that’s all amazing but can we please please please talk about this:

Big fan of characters realizing they don't get to die. They have to live. And grow. And be a person. And deal with shit they thought they'd never have to. And be fucked up about it. right now it’s almost halfway through 2023, and 2024 is an election year in the US. I have started to see a growing proliferation of posts suggesting that there is no difference between the republican and democratic parties–the exact same kind of posts I saw an awful lot of before the last major election here. I am unfollowing folks who post or reblog these sort of posts, as I consider these posts to be fascist propaganda framed as leftist discourse, designed to suppress anti-fascist votes and voters.

Reminder at the beginning of pride month that rainbow capitalism, beyond anything else, is a metric of public opinion. A corporation slapping a rainbow logo on twitter or selling a t-shirt with a rainbow graphic means that they believe they can make as much, or more, money by doing so than if they refused to. You can talk in circles for hours about whether this is allyship or exploitation or whatever, but it is always a symptom, not a cause.

That's what should worry you about Target pulling down pride displays, or companies deciding not to walk in pride parades. A sudden decline in rainbow capitalism is a visible thermometer for the political, social, and legal pressure against queer rights, particularly in the USA in 2023.

Let me tell y'all something:

Yes, companies and corporations and institutions deserve to be mocked for doing the 'lets-do-a-rainbow-logo-for-exactly-30-days-and-no-more" thing, and they should be pushed to do better.

AND

I just had to witness/participate in a fucking week long email battle to get a single social media post for Pride okay'd and posted, and the fallout when a cunt-bitch board member saw it and tried to force us to take it down. (Can you guess which was the bulk of the week? Hint: it wasn't getting the post up.) It was a SHIT TON of work and effort and triggering as all hell, and frankly, if even one of us as staff had given a little less of a shit or this board member was SLIGHTLY more influential, it probably wouldn't have happened.

So don't tell me it's easy and doesn't matter and isn't enough. Because 1) no shit, I fucking know and 2) we might only have a Pride post online, but I'm proud that we made it happen at all.
