Personally, I think Dean is either:

1. Someone who experiences romantic attraction very rarely and doesn’t quite grasp how to understand it when he does feel it

or

2. Completely aromantic 

and depending on how the finale goes one or the other will be solidified for me lmao

any time he talks about like settling down or actually does (Lisa) (Djinn Dream Nurse) it’s all very white picket fence and The Most Quintessential Performative Romance Possible. The dude is grabbing for what society has told him is the perfect romance and is holding it up like “this?? is this it?? is this right???” It’s the equivalent of not knowing you’re aro/ace so when everyone asks you which celebrity you’d bang you don’t want to seem weird by having no answer so you just say one of the Marvel Chris’s to blend in because that’s a reasonable answer (you hope)

I don’t know - I’ve never really read him as an incredibly romantic person in canon (one of the reasons I write mostly AU’s), despite how much he just exudes platonic love. But, I also believe that Castiel is insurmountably important to him and is either one of the few times Dean’s been able to feel romantic attraction towards someone (and who can blame him), or is a vibrantly profound connection.

It’s also about the aro-spec human and the ace-spec angel meeting in the middle for me
