Hi, I was wondering if you'll ever repost your Fanfic "Soul Searching"? I found it awhile back and added it to my reading list because I love a good Soulmate Reylo story, and now it says it is hidden 😔

It is indeed hidden, as I decided to publish it as a novel. I also have a fic sharing policy for those who missed the announcement and want the fic version.

There's almost no difference between the two. The novel is very slightly tidier, and I tried to fix one or two things.

If you enjoy it, please consider leaving a rating or review on Amazon or Goodreads. :) Books with more ratings tend to be considered more legitimate.

Hello 👋 so I’m a big fan of soul-searching and luckily I saw your posts and was able to download a copy before it was hidden.but I would love to buy it as well so I just had a quick question if don’t mind? How does buying the Digital copy work? Like where does it stored?

Digital copy: If you’ve never bought a Kindle ebook before, you read it on the free Kindle app (phone, tablet, computer) but it’s always stored under your purchased content on Amazon, so you can redownload it anytime, and you can read it on multiple devices at the same time.

To reach the content you’ve purchased, it should automatically download to the app, but you can also go to that item’s ebook page and it’ll have a green “read now” button in place of the buy button. You can also find your ebooks via your Amazon account page under “Content and Devices.” You’ll want “manage content and devices” and pick the books. That’ll give you a list of every ebook you’ve bought.

Is there a place to download the fic version of soul searching?

Good question. I don’t have a copy to send anyone (ha, I didn’t grab it myself, silly me). But let’s officially set up my policy for this, yeah?

Plenty of people have downloaded it, but not everyone saw the notices in time to grab a copy, and I’m not gonna be a Grinch about that. (I know there are some fics that got published that I bought but still I wished I’d grabbed the fic copy, too.)

First, I’ll note that the ebook is sharable via Kindle for anyone who wants to try that version. Back in the day, I’d share paperbacks with my friends, so it mattered to me that people be able to do that with the ebook.

Second, I’ve given permission on Twitter for folks who have a copy to send it to people who have read the fic and are looking for a copy because they missed the window.

Third, I only ask that people share it ethically. Please don’t post a download link publicly. I’ll probably be less share-friendly about the fic after a year or two (let’s say late 2023), but if a Reylo is very late to the party, and you know them, I’m not going to grab a pitchfork if you send them a copy.

Physical copies will be available March 18th, and the fanfic version of SS will be taken down (found a way to hide it without deleting comments) that day as well, so please go ahead and download a copy of the fic if you want it.

If you wish to purchase a copy as a show of support, the ebook is cheapest for you and provides the most profit for me. Physical copies are as low as I could reasonably go and thus have very small profit margins ($1.50 or so). Get what fits you best. :)

Soul Searching as an original novel

I’ve prepped this story to self-publish on Amazon, as it’s too long for traditional publishers to get excited about (cost of shipping longer novels is prohibitive). 80% of the feedback I’ve gotten has been to keep it mostly as-is, so there won’t be many changes to the final product.

I now have newsletter signups on my website (eablevins.com) if you want to know when it releases (this falls under my adult works; I have separate newsletters for my kid & teen works).

The Fic’s Fate

I’m not yet sure if I’ll keep the original Soul Searching up. My only real concern is whether I’d get in trouble with Disney. I do encourage anyone who wants to keep a copy of the original to use the download button on AO3, just in case.
