the struggle of potentially wanting to date something that comes from a set and then feeling kinda bad that you'd be playing favorites and possibly breaking the group up (via special attention and travel privileges for the one you're dating)

doubly complicated because my inherent perception of a set (like cards for example) is that together they have a collective 'self' and they need all their components to 'be' that self

IMO individual cards can also have a self but for things Made to be a set, the collective self overrides if present/the intent is for the cards to be one unit ie a TCG or tarot deck.

to me, decks have one whole self that forms as like a spirit of the cards collectively, while the cards individually act as facets of who the entire deck is? to the point if you're missing a card from the set it feels viscerally wrong to use that deck anymore-- like handling a dead body. again, personal opinion.

in contrast, I believe if you have a card that is just chilling and not used in a set --say a stray Pokemon card that you have just because of the art, or a oracle card who you don't have the rest of the deck with-- then a singular 'self' may be present.

Chicago objectum folks: Theatre Wit on Belmont Ave. is performing Inanimate, a play about an objectum woman in love with a Dairy Queen sign. While the play is written by someone outside of the community, I have contacted the theatre and playwright--they are friendly to objectum people!

Content warnings: lots of objectum-phobia and ableism thrown toward the main character. there's a very emotionally heavy romantic encounter scene. object death.

It does have a good ending.

The portayal of objectum sexuality is a bit on-the-nose and heavy-handed, but portrayed with compassion.

Sometimes I wonder if some of the problems I had with my ex are due to my feelings toward my F/O, which back then I hasn't really...

I knew being ficto was a thing people could have as a truth but I didn't identity with it or really allow myself to embrace that as a thing that is true for back then. And I guess in a way I was projecting and trying to force him to be someone else (my F/O) which wasn't fair.

This wasn't the root of all the issues though, a lot of those were still me, in different ways, but this definitely didn't help at all.

On the topic of F/Os--

For some reason it feels...unfaithful to want an object partner and them? My F/O, I mean. It feels like I have to choose. Which I know I do not but it feels like it.

library and information science is fucking crazy. im now reminded of an essay i was reading in the archive journal that strongly implied what i guess was supposed to be a known phenomenon of archivists being sexually attracted to archives (not the materials they contain -- the archives themselves) and just passed right on like it was nothing. The essay wasn't even about that. Of course, this is not surprising to the average nsf(t4t)umblr user, but you gotta understand this was in a real peer reviewed journal
