First trailer for Luke’s upcoming westerns ‘Horizon’ directed by Kevin Costner has been released! 🏜️🐎
Chapter 1 will premiere only in theaters June 28, chapter 2 August 16
Ah, I wish they showed more of Luke’s character 😭 But okay, okay, I totally get it, the cast is huge. So I’ll settle for a couple of glimpses of Luke we got for now 😅
Apparently, Owen is an ambassador for California Naturals’ new brand campaign. Owen is the new “Chief Shampoo Officer". Guys, sorry, I can’t stop laughing 😂
(This is great, but Owen, I’m begging you, get a real job please 😭)
All this, and I’m gonna throw my own two cents in:
Wes’s best work was when you had a central character (or rather, group of characters) and the cameos were minimal (IE: Grand Budapest)
The perfect balance of all of his work (style, actors, etc) was Tenenbaums. It didn’t feel too cluttered like his most recent work. It felt like a group of people that were manageable to follow around and tell their stories.
The more characters, the less story. The less story, the more room for character development.
It’s why Bottle Rocket, with all its faults, works. It’s 3 dudes. They’re given room to breathe and grow. I can’t remember the last WA movie to have that level of development.
Maybe this is too much tin hat for such a trivial topic, but I believe Owen kept him balanced and grounded. In the 3 movies they did together, it made sense. Every character had a role and a story to tell. The more distanced Owen becomes, the more egregious Wes becomes with overcasting his movies. Notice how Life Aquatic and Darjeeling (the last 2 movies Owen had a significant role in) still carry some of that whimsy? They’re still manageable and carry the same energy as the first several movies. If you compare Asteroid City to Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Life aquatic, or Darjeeling limited, it’s pretty damn apparent that there’s a massive disconnect. Other than style and dialect pattern, they almost feel like they were made by different people, the way the actors have become more like dolls on a diorama than actual characters with arcs and hearts.
I think Wes needs a reset. He needs to write a movie with Owen, give it a small cast, bring the band back together and remind everyone why his movies were so charming in the first place.
did the wilson brothers fall out w wes anderson?
I wouldn’t necessarily say fall out. We’ll never know what actually happened ofc
Not to start conspiracy theories around this or anything…
Wes and Luke? Maybe. Although my working theory is that the main reason Luke was in Wes’ earlier works is the fact that Owen co-wrote them. And after their writing collaboration stopped, no matter how great Luke was in those films, maybe Wes just… doesn’t envision him in his movies anymore? or Luke is just not popular enough for his stacked projects?
As for Owen, yeah, his absence in Wes’ recent works is weird… I think they’re still friends, but his movies has gotten significantly bigger in terms of cast, maybe he just couldn’t find a right role for Owen? Pls don’t throw things at me 😅 but Wes has been casting way too many unnecessary actors recently, some I love, but imo they have no place in his movies…
Hopefully there’s a role for Owen in his next project 🤞🏼 And I can’t even dare to hope, but maybe there’s a place for Luke too
