I think that if Otohan had managed to kill more of the BHs (which was pretty likely), Matt had planned to reveal more of the unseen side of this conflict, which is what's happening to unclaimed souls with the RQ's champion being out of commission

We haven't seen much since Imogen saw Bertrand, the Twins and Eshteross walking into the storm, and that was before the Malleus Key

But FCG dying the way they did kind of took that off the table for BH for now, because Matt wouldn't dishonour the sacrifice by letting Otohan slide out of that and keep slaughtering, and FCG is one of the few members who has a god with prior claim on their soul

So Bell's Hells don't have any new info about the more spiritual side of the conflict, and the party member with the strongest connection to the gods is dead - they're still stuck in this binary position of the gods v predathos and don't have much to base their judgement on except the actions of those claiming to represent those factions

I think that's why the EXU crew have come in at this time - they can get some new information on the spiritual aspects of the conflict and a different perspective while playing out their arc, then provide that information to Bell's Hells (at the encampment maybe) to fill in some of the gaps, which would then allow the Bell's Hells to make a more informed decision about where they go from here

(also honestly Matt might be needing a brain vacation)
