I know rooster teeth had a whole fucking host of problems and haven't watched their stuff in years but I still shed a tear for another day another internet group getting bought out by big media companies because "they're successful" and then being shut down because they don't make enough profit for wall street. let things stay small. not everything needs to be contract deals and billboards the beauty of the internet should be that there's thousands of little things for people to find the niche they like, not that anything that becomes popular is obviously the next big franchise and we need to throw millions of dollars at it. We live in an era where big companies are taking everything small from us. Heardle getting bought out by Spotify and then shut down bc they realized it cost more than it made. capitalism and the Internet are not built for each other.

Puma announced today that they would be dropping their sponsorship of the Israeli football team in 2024.

Puma very much wants you to know that the reason they’re dropping the Israeli football team is definitely NOT because they lost almost 50% of their revenue due to the boycotts they’ve faced directly after sponsoring said team in 2018.

And it is very important to puma that you know this decision was made a year ago, and the decision to announce this now has absolutely nothing to do with an attempt to distance itself from the shifting political climate regarding supporting Israel.

It is very important to Puma that you don’t believe that Western consumers have the power to change company policy and impact an influence where multi National corporations spend their billions. It’s very important to know that this is 100% a coincidence and that you please do not believe that you hold any power as a western consumer.

The way they're acting like "ceasefire" means "go blow yourselves up" is just. A ceasefire is nothing. It's less than the bare minimum. It's not "rebuild what you destroyed." It's not "pay the victims remaining of the families you killed." It's not "rehabilitate Gaza." It's not any of the demands that could be made in this situation. It's just... Stop. Stop killing them. And even that is treated like it's so fucking extreme and if you call for it you must want Jews to die. Politicians with an agenda can really demonize anything.

i think so much of that knee-jerk intellectual need to rationalize what’s going on, to bring it down to quantifiable “ok so like what am i supposed to do about it? are you saying i, progressive liberal, am responsible for this? are you saying i, really sweet zionist who donates to UNICEF, am complicit in genocide? are you saying i, american, am a colonizer deserving of death?” is just a complete shutdown at the thought of sitting with guilt and sadness, a fear of recognizing what’s happening to palestinians as something that is happening to real humans like you or me, because it is not something easy to sit with

the truth is personally, as an egyptian, i feel complicit in the genocide in gaza. as a bystander, i feel complicit. i feel a deep grief i will not be able to unseat for the rest of my life. it’s okay to feel a degree of shame to be alive in a world that allows this to happen. i don’t understand how it’s possible not to and i feel impatient with the need to be defensive. i am not defensive of this feeling. i feel like we are letting an entire population down, beyond my nationality, beyond the palestinians i know and love in my personal life, beyond anything else, as a human being i feel this because people are dying right in front of us in the most systemic, bureaucratic and barbaric method imaginable and we are helpless to stop it. so why would i be defensive? just accept the feeling and move on. there’s a genocide happening.

I gotta say, one of the greatest achievements of my 20s was that I learned (mostly) to differentiate between:

"I truly do not want to go" and

"I'm just feeling the Demand Avoidance, and I will like it once I get there."

#number three is a big one for me #sometimes i find myself saying yes to plans way ahead of time and not feeling an ounce of excitement in the lead up #and i would just say 'i'm just being my usual anxious self i just need to go' when. No. #my body was telling me i didn't want to go #every single time i've felt that and have ignored it to attend the plans anyway #i've HATED it #so now i check in with my body's signals #and if i don't feel any kind of excitement or interest at all #if i feel zero fomo #if i know that bowing out would make me relieved #then i don't go !! and it's been so eye opening and freeing #becoming more confident in saying no and holding firm to it
