I don't know if you've heard but here in Australia it's flooding like mad right now and ontop of that flood water is a layer of terrified spiders. That's pretty much a cursed fact on its own, but if have anything extra cursed you'd like to add regarding this behaviour then I'd love to hear it, cos I don't known how to leave well enough alone.
most spiders can, to some extent, avoid drowning from unexpected dunks by abusing surface tension to skate around on top of the water!
however this is generally a temporary solution- if the spider gets too waterlogged it will break through the surface and sink, whereupon it will drown for reals and/or get eaten by a carp. so a skating spider’s first and foremost priority is to get the hell OFF the water and back to land- which means they’ll climb onto virtually any surface available, including you if you’re wandering around in the floodwaters for some reason. maybe you lost your dog, I dunno. you're covered in spiders now, congrats!
so don’t panic too hard if you end up completely covered in terrified spiders, they just really really don’t want to get eaten by those carp.
