You know a lot of the workforce these days carry around smart objects or laptops to and from their workplaces. I’m not much of a fan of that because taking your work home with you, I dunno I just don’t think it’s healthy. We all need a healthy work-life balance. In saying this though I guess it’s pretty handy now though during covid, so I’ll just eat my own words now than shall I.

I guess I would be open to lugging this puppy around though if it meant I got to stare at it all day...

So weeeeeeeee! Our builder interior designer lady for our Retro Revival Bed and Breakfast/ @pearl_davies_photography build has come back to me with links to available clawfoot baths! Yew! Cheers Shaz! (Her name is Sharyn).

So on my research hunt I couldn’t find a black exterior/white belly (belly?) bath in Australia for under a thousand bucks, but Shazza has mad connects, obviously.

Also, I couldn’t find a 1500mm bath 🛁 (the space in the bathroom available for the bath is only 1500mm, yeah she’s pretty tight), I could only find 1570mm and 1720mm baths 🛁, so what we’re doing now is shaving 70mm off of the bedroom so that one of these sexy-sexies can fit.

Sharyn interior designer lady has asked me what bath I wanted to go with, I’ve come down to these two and told her I need to consult with my design team, she said “you have a design team..?” And I’m like ‘Yup!’, and it’s youuuu guys, it’s you! *points-at-you*.

Now my question to you is, seeing you’ll be staying here. What bath should we install..? The clawfoot with white feet or chrome feet..?

Now don’t forget the floor will be 30cm x 30cm black and white check mat tiles. The walls will be 30cm x 10cm white subway tiles with black grouting. Shaz also found a cool tap set for the bath (scroll to check it out), we’re hoping it matches the hardware we have with @lulu.bliss in Vegas from @vintage_revival_art_co aaaaaas well as the coatrack coming in from @scott_barrette (scroll to check these out too.

When everything is thrifted / second hand... ✨💖✨ 💯

Like I know we have a few mcm things here in Australia to thrift but after living in the US I had to hold myself back. Thrift stores (2nd hand stores) are my favourite...

I think that’s maybe what I’ll do when I grow up too, run a thrift store, then again I know I’d have a hard time letting things go. My favourite thrift store that’s closest to me is in walking distance from where our house is and where our Retro Bed and Breakfast will be. It’s called @the_retro_wardrobe ✨💖✨

Can I tell you something..?

When we purchased our little 1927 built house here in Newcastle Australia 🇦🇺 the front yard was well, meh. I dug it all up and found so much in the underlying soil from candy wrappers to electronic wiring (not connected to anything), crusty condoms (yep), plastic bottles and more, and it’s such a small area too. I then paid someone to drop a trailer load of shit on the front foot path in front of the fence, yep, I actually paid someone to do that 🤔

From there, I literally shoveled shit from the path to the yard. I then rolled out my own Sir Walter Buffalow grass. I shoveled a little more shit and then watered it in every single day for the next two weeks.

I literally watched my grass grow. 🌱💚🌱

...nek minnit (4 years later), we pack our bags and moved to the USA 🇺🇸 , we get a tenant in our house and because he didn’t have access to a whipper snipper (a weed whacker 😂 one of my most favourite American words ever☝🏼😅) he poisoned the perimeter of the yard 😲🥴😭.

My older bro saw it one day as he worked close by, he sent me a photo (we were still living in the USA) and you know what I did, you want to know what I did..?

I dobbed on him, yes, I dobbed 😌. I called the real estate looking after our house on our behalf and I dobbed on him.

I figured after a week or so, that maybe it was coming from an emotional place (the dobbing), but dude, it’s #SirWalterBuffalo.

He was a pretty good tenant, I mean I’m pretty sure he was illegally sub-letting the place out but other than that and the whole grass thing the place stayed in good nik (good condition).

Back to this epic lawnmower though. I’d mow every day! Sweet find @theatomicbinge !

How sweet are these atomic tchotchke shelves? I have a fabulous black set + matching coat rack on their way to our superstar pal @lulu.bliss over in Las Vegas. She’s so incredibly sweet and is taking real good care of them PLuS a bunch of other cool gear we sourced in the US for our Retro Bed and Breakfast/ @pearl_davies_photography studio build. Since our boarders were locked down, we didn’t make it over for our Annual USA 🇺🇸 @pearl_davies_photography Photography Tour in March. Cheers #Covid19. We’ll get there eventually though and hoping all of our US based friends are staying safe. We hope the whole world is staying safe actually, it’s pretty nasty out there ♥️😷🌍

Our tchotchke set will most probably be placed in the bathroom of our build. I haven’t shown you the colour scheme for that yet have I? Oooh it’s going to be so suave.

So @scott_barrette is having a sale on his fabulous pieces here. I doubt they’ll last so get on over there you crazy kids, go on now... 🏃‍♂️💨

You know I’ve been binging Mad Men lately and they’re up to the part where they just get their first computer. It’s huge and takes up the whole room.

We’ve come so far with computers and electronics hey, it’s kind of scary. We literally hold computers in the palms of our hands.

Because love, the beauty of it, the joy of it and yes, even the pain of it is the most incredible gift to give and to receive as a human being.

So now imagine this, imagine being in love with another human being, yet imprisoned because of the colour of your skin. Imagine a law telling you that loving another person was unjust and illegal because the colour of your skin does not match the tone of the one you love.

It’s on this day in the USA in 1967 that marks the unofficial holiday honouring the ruling of the landmark case Loving v Virginia which came to legalise interracial marriage, but not without a long 9 year battle and heartache.

In 1958 Richard and Mildred Loving we’re both arrested for violating a state law which at the time prohibited interracial marriage in the state of Virginia. Mildred was pregnant at the time and spent 3 nights alone in a prison cell. Richard spent one. They were both sent to live in exhile out of the state and deemed not to return together for 25 years. Mildred wrote a letter to Attorney General Robert F Kennedy at the time who enlisted the help of volunteer attorneys. With pro bono help they, together with their 3 children Sidney, Donald and Peggy were able to live free from prosecution in the state of Virginia overturning their convictions and ruling that the ban on interracial marriage was unconstitutional and in violation of civil rights and the 14th amendment.

Just 7 years after the Supreme Court ruling Richard was killed by a drunk driver. Mildred remained in the home he had built for them until her death in 2008 stating “I miss him, he really took care of us..”. Leaving a legacy, it’s not what you leave for them, it’s what you leave in them. #BlackLivesMatter #LovingDay #LoveWins
