Hau: Phew, nothing like swimming alone at night! It is so relaxing!
Hau: Hmm?
Hau: Hello, Rune! What are you doing here??
Rune: ?!
Hau: Why are you shocked? You already knew I was a merman, right?
Rune: I know... But seeing a real deal is not the same.
Hau: Well? You looked like you were in trouble!
Rune: I, umm... Wanted to dive and look around the ocean floor to get some inspirations for my art... But night sea is sure lot scarier than the day. It is pitch dark in there so it makes me cringe.
Hau: Why didn’t you tell me?? We can dive in together! Surely two will be less scary than diving solo!
Rune: Huh? I...
Hau: Come on, Let me be of help to you like how you did to me!
Rune: ...If you insist.
*SPLOOSH*
Rune: Wait... Am I breathing in the water?
Hau: Yes! I’m using my magic upon you, so you don’t have to hold your breath!
Rune: ....Wow.
Hau: Welcome to the ocean floor!
Hau: Hee hee! Hope you had a lot of fun!
Rune: In all honesty, I did. Thanks for that... You have quite an intriguing power.
Hau: Not at all! Not compared to how you whip up art or music in a flash!
Rune: ....Thanks.
Rune: *Whistles*
Hau: Lovely tune... Did you make it up?
Rune: I kind of remember my emotions this way... By making up a tune.
Hau: Ooh! Ooh! Let me try!
Hau: *Sings the same tune that Rune whistled*
Rune: ..............
Hau: ?? Is something wrong?
Rune: No, it’s just... Your voice. It’s spectacular. I’ve never heard such crystal clear voice in my life.
Hau: ! Is it that good??
Rune: Yeah...
Hau: Then can you teach me human music??
Rune: Huh? I’m not really good enough to teach someone yet...
Hau: Pretty please? I’m literally starting from a scratch so you don’t have to worry how good you are!
Rune: ...Well, I’m in your debt anyway, so I’m sure it’s fine.
Hau: YAY! You can come drop by at my house whenever you’re free!

Little Spark
After living for a while in Pendragon Island, Raymond was finding his inner peace. Sure it was sad when his family didn’t stop him when he said he wants to go or write a letter to him during his stay, but at least the members on the island were giving him somewhere new where he can feel safe. It was the right decision he made to leave his so-called home. He was pleased to settle down and have somewhere to call home.
However, his habit of being smug didn’t go away easily. He worked with that mask on for so long that it wouldn’t let him off the hook. It remained as a vestige from his old life and a complex. He hoped that after time passes on new life, he would gradually shed his act and reveal his true self.
As time progressed, he began to befriend Rune as the new pal who loves art. Raymond tried to smug his way out and act like a cool dude. Rune was uncertain about having this swaying cat around him, but Raymond didn’t bother him or anything during his creative work, so he just let him be. And with time, Rune and Raymond sitting by each other while drawing and playing music became a thing. With Raymond’s somewhat cheesy comments. Rune didn’t dislike that either since Raymond was his first audience.
Then, one day, Richard brought a new villager to join their island life.
“Greetings, my name is Mitzi. Pleased to meet you all.”
The cat of a similar shade to Raymond introduced herself. Her voice was as kind and sweet as she looked.
Until that moment, Raymond just took her as one of the many villagers and treated her just the same as others. He would strut in front of her playing the usual ‘city cat’ he is. And he thought he would always be like that around her.
But her kindness started to permeate into his heart. No matter what he did, she would treat him equally to other villagers. He started to lay an eye on her more and more- until something triggered inside of him.
It was another fine day when Raymond was strolling the island. He then saw Mitzi squatting by the pond. He was wondering what she was up to until he saw her pulling the goldfish out of the fishbowl and gently released it into the waterhole. He tilted his head, as that goldfish was the one which Mitzi said she’d keep by her side.
“Mitzi?” Raymond called out.
“Oh, good day, Raymond!” Mitzi greeted back with a bright smile.
“Isn’t that the goldfish you said you were going to keep?”
“Why, yes,” Mitzi answered, wearing a bit sad smile.
“It sure is heartbreaking to bid goodbye to the little one... But whenever I walked by this pond, I saw goldfishes swimming together. And when I come back to see my goldfish alone in the fishbowl, it seemed lonely and sorrowful... In the end, I had to let go of it, so it can be with their loved ones once again.”
Those words literally turned into an arrow of Eros and pierced Raymond’s heart. Such kindness, and such concerning mindset. Maybe... Maybe if he is with her, he can get rid of that mask. He can be his true self...
Raymond didn’t know how to process it, but yes, it was the beginning of love.

The Unfortunate Cleverness
Raymond was a smart kitten of the litter, so his parents always held high expectations of him.
They provided him with gifted and talented education, and at first, it seemed to work well.
However, as the years progressed, Raymond found it hard to catch up with all the other genius students around him. He always trailed behind and ended up addressed as a ‘dunce of the class’ despite his smartness. He felt like a failure and it ruined his self-confidence massively.
After years of trying, Raymond ended up quitting the class from sheer stress from comparison, but his family as a whole didn’t welcome him.
His parents said “Why did you quit? Did you forget all our sacrifice for you??“
and his siblings said “You failed after getting all the love and attention from mom and dad? That’s pathetic!”
With nowhere to turn to, Raymond just bottled up and started working in a company. But the feeling of not having a nest to turn to suffocated him. Seeing his coworkers going home without worries to see their beloved family tortured him. He just grabbed a bottle on his way and held back his tears.
‘IT IS NOT FAIR!’ he thought.
‘I didn’t ask for all the attention and that sort of love from my parents, but they do it anyway. Now I don’t even have a decent friend from normal school life, my siblings hate me, and EVEN mother and father who caused all this!’
Even if he groaned over it, nothing changed. He just kept on with his life, making a beeline back and forth home and workplace feeling grey.
But he still had to provide for the family to AT LEAST make an excuse to be with them, so he sugarcoated his negative feelings with a smug attitude to keep winning bread.
One day, it was the month of his holiday, and his family planned up a trip together. He gently declined, as he knew his siblings would feel uncomfortable when he joins them. The feeling of sitting alone staring at the rerun on the TV with nobody around him was downright bitter. Anything wasn’t his will but it turned out that way. He felt helpless and alone.
It wasn’t anything too special. He wanted to get out of the home and go somewhere to refresh himself. So he booked a ticket to go to the random place via Dodo Airline, never knowing it would change his life.
The stranger introduced himself as Richard from Pendragon Island. He acted as smug as usual, but unlike other people he has ever met, Richard kindly smiled and addressed Raymond as someone ‘comfortable and entertaining' to be with. Raymond was honestly shocked. Never has he saw someone smiled at him like that: No judgment and grudge. Richard said he is not only picking medical herbs for his villagers, but also looking for fellow neighbor to join him. He also offered Raymond a chance.
Raymond hesitated since it was a gamble to leave his old life behind and accept someone new in his life. He just had no guarantee if everyone on Pendragon was good. But it was also a fact that his whole family was turning cold shoulder on him. Is it worthy to go back to that home?
He thought it over. His whole life spiraled out of control because he let it in someone else’s hand. But now he is old enough to finally make a life-changing decision for himself. It is his chance. It’s now or never.
Before realizing it, Raymond answered: “I’d love to.”

Hau: (Human art is so peculiar... How can they come up with such a thing? It’s giving me such a headache to learn all of them... But I need to learn whatever I can to blend in, so I don’t get banished from here too.)
Hau: (Ah, it’s him! Mr. Pendragon!)
Hau: (...No offense, but he always make me feel nervous. His silence gaze is so intimidating...)
Winter Richard: I’m not going to bite you, you know.
Hau: !!!
Hau: Eh heh heh... Sorry... Didn’t mean to ignore you or anything!
Winter Richard: ....That’s fine. Do you like arts too? I see you here often.
Hau: Well, I’m not so clever to know all these yet! I can’t memorize all the info!
Winter Richard: ‘Memorize?’ That’s an interesting word to use at an art piece.
Hau: Hmm?
Winter Richard: Take this statue for example. What do you see?
Hau: ......Umm, Nike?
Winter Richard: Not from the description. Give me your idea.
Hau: It’s... a winged person. So beautiful and... mysterious?
Winter Richard: Yeah, and the description says it’s alighting, but no matter how many times I see it, it feels like it’s taking off. However, there’s nothing wrong with that, right?
Hau: .....
Winter Richard: That’s what I love about arts. There are no answers to memorize. You are free to expand your imaginations and expressions, as long as it is within the moral of society. Also, no matter their style and era, they have their own unique beauty.
Hau: Wow...
Winter Richard: It’s like all of us. We should be free to express ourselves however we want as long as it makes moral sense.
Hau: ...That’s true. I’m the envy of you, brave enough to say such a thing.
Winter Richard: Don’t get me wrong, kid. I was a complete coward before someone precious to me gave me the strength and courage to do so. I was always on the edge to act like someone that I’m not. Scared the hell out of at how others judge me. But it only ate me away.
...Even if you’re from a different world from me, it’s fine. Don’t feel so pressured to be loved. You’re doing fine.
Hau: .............
Winter Richard: ...Sorry if you didn’t want me to realize it. But when I was helping out my brother to heal you, I saw some fish scale on the bandage that was wrapping your ankle. Plus, being that crazy lucky to find that many pearls seemed impossible. That reminded me of an old folk tale... never thought I would see a real deal.
Hau: P, please don’t-
Winter Richard: Hey, no need to get all flustered. I’m not interested in busting someone’s secret to others and putting them through a war phase. I’m just telling you to relax despite your differences. Just like all these art pieces. Okay?
I’m only telling you this so you won’t have to learn it the hard way.
Hau: ...Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Hey- Mr. Pendragon! Can I come here again to watch art pieces with you??
Winter Richard: Sure, why not. I’m at the museum almost 24/7, so catch me here whenever you are free.
Hau: Tee hee! That sounds great :D By the way, what’s your real name? Everyone calls you Richard, but I’m sure that’s not true. Even if you’re twins, there’s no way you share a name too!
Come on, tell me, please?? You got my secret so you should share yours too! I won’t tell anybody, I promise!
Winter Richard: ....You’re quite a bargainer, eh? Alright.

The New Family
One day, when Richard was out for fishing...
He found a mysterious boy washed to the shore.
He used all his skills as a medical person to treat and heal the boy.
The boy was all shy in front of the new people and was stuck to Richard like glue at first...
But with all the care,
new friends,
new home,
the sweet treats,
and new things to learn,
the boy who revealed his name as Hau, gradually settled into the new ways of life.
But no one knew the little secret this boy was hoarding.

**Admin’s note: Animal Crossing threw a lot of clues about the mermaid’s existence, with not only pearls and mermaid furniture but with a conversation between peppy and normal villagers. When you eavesdrop on their conversation, normal villagers talk about how they want to see and know more about the mermaid realms.
Hence, I decided to take it seriously and add that as a character’s feature :3
Hau is a merboy who was banished from his kind since he was a runt of the litter. But in the end, it worked out, since he is now with a new loving family!

The Beginning
Born as twins, the Pendragon brothers were always the best friend to one another.
As they grow older, the older brother started to cut a conspicuous figure in music and art, and the younger bro loves listening to his music and seeing his paintings.
However, the school grades started to tear them apart. The younger brother mostly got the attention since he excelled academically. The older bro felt like he is a letdown since many people compared him to his sibling.
With the unbearable pressure of academic works, the older brother asked his parents if he can pursue a career in arts. It was harshly turned down, as the Pendragon household served in the field of medicine for generations. And as ‘an oldest’ of the family, Winder Richard had no option but to bear the pressure. He wasn't the toughest of a character to rebel against his parents.
The more pressure haunted him, the older twin shut his brother out, as he thought he wasn’t worthy.
After separating and being the brothers that aren’t like before,
they studied individually,
but the gap only widened. The more success the younger brother tasted, the more failure the older one tasted.
After the older brother shut himself out for a long time, the younger one got worried about him, so he went in to check...
Only to find that his older brother buckled under excessive pressure and stress.
This incident made the younger twin question his whole career and dream as a pharmacist. What good is his career when he can’t even save the dearest and nearest one to his heart?
While he was puzzled about his future,
he sees this ad.
The younger brother realizes that if his brother has a chance to pursue his dream without any judgment and relax surrounded by beautiful nature, he sure will recover. Their parents didn’t oppose his idea since they were blown with a lesson a hard way: ���Restricting their child in the wrong way can sometimes even cost their lives.”
On the new island to live on, he made a new friend called Setsuna. They were both kind and gentle, plus had a love for nature, so they became friend without any hurdles.
The younger brother worked tirelessly to turn the island into somewhere nice for his twin to live on, with lovely residents as neighbors too.
And when the older brother was finally well enough to travel...
They are finally in a place where they can be brothers without discrimination or judgments.
