Sending so much love to Ruby Barker. There is so much stigma around inpatient care for mental illness and I’m really grateful that she’s opened up and shared what she’s been going through. The entertainment industry is hostile to black mentally ill people and I’m happy she has said the show has been supportive. I’ve linked her instagram post, please consider watching and maybe liking and leaving a positive comment. This is much bigger than Bridgerton but I do hope they retcon Marina’s storyline. I believe they can give Marina dignified rather than killing her off to make way for Philoise.

I’ve seen a lot of posts and tweets about how Penelope is a shitty person and needs redemption before she gets her season. To that I have to respond: What do you think her season is MEANT to be? The writers INTENTIONALLY beat Penelope down to her lowest and most miserable so they could build her back up again, the SAME way they did with Anthony in season 1. If they had a whole subplot dealing with the fallout of Penelope being Lady Whistledown in someone else’s season y’all would complain she was getting too much screentime and they should save that for her season.

When I watched season 1 with my sister (who is a casual fan and knows nothing of the story or it’s source material) she was SHOCKED Anthony was the season 2 lead because season 1 made her dislike him. She said she didn’t want to watch a season about him. The way he treated Daphne, belittled or ignored her feelings, infantilized her yet completely controlled her, and tried to force her to marry a pervert who’s been obsessed with her since she was 5 years old (who also tried to assault her, although Anthony didn’t know this, he would have known Nigel was a freak if he bothered to listen to what he was saying for two seconds and how he obsessed over Daphne)?? He wasn’t someone you could root for. Yet season 2 turned all that around and showed him in a different light, it gave him maturity and growth, and the Anthony at the end of season 2 would never do to Daphne what season 1 Anthony did.

This is part of story-telling. Building conflict, having characters fuck up, forcing them to confront themselves.
