What’s the last thing you taught yourself?

I bought a blue acoustic guitar with my first stimulus check. I’m not sure why, or why blue, but it seemed perfect to me. As I sat on the porch of my Bywater home, it struck me: my mother urged me for years to learn to play, to accompany myself while I sing…and being at home with no place to go seemed the right moment. Months in isolation. It should have been the right time.

I am still working to learn basic chords.

But: I tinkered around and can strum “Man in the Long Black Coat”. Mom was right: it’s great fun to play as I sing.

Giddy, I feel so clever having figured it out all by myself. There’s a glow of elation when one teaches herself something, figures it out without any help. A beaming that rivals the sun.

(Yes, yes; I’ll learn chords soon but, just let me have this moment🙃)
