Ch 182: Bard’s Family
This chapter shows us a tiny fraction of Bard’s happy life before he lost his family that tragic night.
His wife was a milkmaid named Joana (with a great rack that didn’t escape Bard’s notice), and his son (as I had suspected) was named after him. This more or less confirms that “Bardroy” is in fact his first name.
His wedding was humble, but Bard was on cloud nine:
And they were both elated by the blessing of their son.
It some how makes things even sadder now that his family has names, huh? 😢😭

No, because you guys know what this means, right? Since the whole Tragic Love Song of Destiny episode is an anime only filler and its events never really happened in the manga, Inuyasha canonically wanted Kagome to be his very first kiss.
And sure, you can argue that he is only doing so because she looks like Kikyo. That his dismissal of Kagome's worries about being a terrible thing that her face looks like Kikyo's and that he hates her for it is actually due to the fact that it's quite the opposite, since we know he never actually hated Kikyo.
But I don't think that's the case anymore. I think he's avoiding to look at her because he is afraid of what he feels when he does. He is no longer scared of all the ways in which Kagome and Kikyo are similar, but of all the ways in which they aren't. And I think so because, well, earlier that day...
At this point, Inuyasha has already realized that, even though they do look alike in a superficial level, they're fundamentally different.
And when he does get confused and mistakes one for the other, is not Kagome for Kikyo like it was in the beginning, but rather Kikyo for Kagome.
In my opinion, this is due to Kagome slowly taking over his mind. Becoming the face he sees when he closes his eyes. Being his first thought every time. And so when he makes a move to kiss Kagome, I can only assume it's because he wants to kiss Kagome.
And it's very, very tragic, because she wasn't ready for that kind of intimacy just yet, so the moment passes and, instead, his first kiss ends up being the one with Kikyo when she tries to drag him to hell.
And I think it's heartbreaking for two reasons. One, because Inuyasha didn't get the first kiss he wanted and or deserved. And two, because even though Kagome was absolutely right in respecting her own time, I bet regret haunted her later on in the story, with all of its "what ifs."
The time wasn't right. She wasn't ready. And yet she could have been his first kiss. She could have kissed him then and there and maybe things would have been very different between them.
But alas, she didn't.
And the opportunity was missed.
