i cant stop thinking about sooho only having his grandma around, supporting himself to make ends meet, working for hours on end just to survive each day. at first i thought his living situation was because he had no parents but apparently, the director/writer revealed in an interview that his parents were abroad but failed their business so they couldn’t support him anymore. he quit being an athlete and started working three part-time jobs to provide for himself. i wish they at least showed or said it in passing just so we know why he worked but also does it really make a difference whether he had parents or not? they still weren’t around, they didn’t come back home to korea even after their business abroad went to shit so yeah suho basically has no one aside from his grandma.
i think him being bright and a sunshine was a front or a way to cope or keep going in life because he needs to accept his situation, be practical, and just get by each day. there was no point in showing he’s having a hard time. he couldn’t rely on his grandma alone, he had to be independent and he had no one else to confide with. his practicality built from early adult responsibilites probably made him not think any big deal of having no actual friends before sieun (and bumseok). he valued simplicity, honesty, bluntness, straightforwardness, and he had a no beating around the bush, no nonsense no bullshit personality.
but all that didn’t mean he wasn’t happy when someone actually approached him to talk and be friends with. at some point he probably had a “oh is this how it feels to have people in your life?” moment too, my money’s on the ox bone soup hospital scene… yeah, no one can say that he didn’t also feel alone. he did, in a different way compared to sieun’s and bumseok’s brands of loneliness.
in some way, he really found a home in sieun. sieun who was just as alone as he was, who had unavailable parents that didn’t understand him, whose eyes say he’s empty inside, who had nothing else to do so he just studied endlessly. they found a home in each other and yeah im fucking miserable i cant do this anymore

I wanna talk about Weak Hero Class because I saw this on twt where Hyunwook talks about Sooho's relationship w Sieun and it's making me cry.
Tumblr media
So basically I wanna talk about Sooho and how, for the whole show, he always emphasizes not crossing the line. From his first introduction of his fight with the baseball team, he told the dude that he crossed the line so he punched him. But before that he was mostly fighting in self defense and his attacks weren't too harmful (playful smack with a book for example). I think for Sooho, 'crossing the line' means harming someone severely and with malicious intent. Like those baseball dudes had intent to harm, sure, but Sooho never saw it that way and was even being playful. But the moment the baseball dude acted with the intent to really harm Sooho with the bat, thats when it was 'crossing the line'
The next instance was at the end of ep1 when Sieun was about curb stomp the shit out of Youngbin but he stopped him. Idk why he didn't stop him before that (if he was asleep through that then wtf..how??) but let's assume he woke up during the fight. He probably let Sieun handle it for a bit because he might have recognized how Youngbin deserved that but knew that if Sieun went any further, he would've been severely hurt. (Yeah he got a broken nose but he looked fine by ep 5 or 6 and STILL didn't learn his lesson so...if Sieun kept going, he would not have been walking around and shit)
Even when he was training Sieun, Sooho told him to run instead of 'finishing off' the opponent (which Sieun ignored obviously)
Every fight scene with Sooho before ep 7 have been either in self defense or defense of others and to me, I never saw it as him fighting just to fight or hurt but more to assist or defend. He's never sought out violence or harmed others maliciously...until Sieun got hurt.
(I would analyze all of Sooho's fight scenes but I don't have the words to articulate it and this post is getting too long)
We can also argue that he was defending Sieun when he lined up all the bullies and punched them in the gut one by one but Sieun wasn't there to witness this and I don't think he ever found out. Like this Sooho wanted to HURT those dudes. He wanted them to feel the pain that Sieun felt. Still, the Sooho in ep 7 was a vengeful one. The moment he saw Sieun and was hiding his cast from him, Sooho was on a path of revenge.
Then he sought out Yeongbin and broke his fingers and arm and was sending really threatening texts towards Bumseok. If I watched that scene out of context and without subtitles, I would assume Sooho was the bad guy. And then when he hit Bumseok, he probably would have kept going if it weren't for that other ufc dude interrupting. And tbh, I feel like the only fight that didn't cross the line was w that dude bc it did kinda feel like a spar for Sooho, like they both even wore the gloves. Like I don't think Sooho came in there wanting to hurt that dude, only Bumseok, and it was more like a sidequest for him. If the other bullies didn't get in the way, Sooho deffo would have won then he probably would've reverted his attention back to Bumseok.
But the moment he crossed that line, Bumseok decided to cross that line as well and then in ep 8, so did Sieun (until he faced Bumseok in the end and held back but that's another thing)
Idk what I'm really getting at here, just know that Sooho's fights in ep 7 were to HARM others intentionally whereas the fights before were not and maybe you could say it cost him his life (I know he's not dead but....yknow..)

omg @lutawolf I just watched ep 7 and that scene where Soo-Ho finds out Shi-Eun was hurt and even hospitalised, and goes to find him and the tension in that scene at the door.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The look in his eyes. When he clocks the cast on the hand and he’s trying to keep his cool but he’s seething underneath it all.
Tumblr media
The pain 😭 the love 😭 the care 😭 the fact the Shi-Eun probably never even had anyone in his life to ask him that before and actually mean it 😭
Tumblr media
The subtle lip tremble and clenching at the end, tamping down on his emotions when he realises Shi-Eun is going to continue to hide it from him to try protect him. He’s trying to keep his cool. He’s so close to losing it. The sadness of knowing he’s hurt. The rage at those who did it and maybe also himself because it happened and he didn’t even know when it’s related to him. The guilt, thinking it’s his fault.
Tumblr media
Still taking the time to care about Shi-Eun’s schooling. He knows it’s a thing Shi-Eun values in his life so even amongst all this pain and anguish he makes sure Shi-Eun can still do it because he knows it’s important. And the fact that Shi-Eun even risked it for him in the first place? Devastating. The way it also means "stop avoiding me, I don't want you to hide from me, I’m here with you".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The controlled and calculated manner in which he broke the guy's fingers afterward, the pure fury in that action. He is seething and with one action we all know why. The contrast between this Soo-Ho and the one we see when he’s with Shi-Eun. What happens when you touch his reverse scale.
@maryallenc-tries-to-write you were so right about what you said before, it’s a different flavour but it’s so great to watch Shi-Eun fight to protect him and then him lose it over Shi-Eun (and then I assume we see Shi-Eun lose it next ep but I haven't watched yet) unlike Stephen’s determined but passive forbearance of suffering to protect Gray and keep him out of the loop as he shields him from it all, scoring 100 on the test and everything else he did, and Gray not being able to do anything until after the fact (when he loses it after the loss and goes after Bryce and Oswald's gang) in the webtoon. Both equally moving, but definitely different. That feeling of mutual protection in the series is great to watch.
And the manner of Shi-Eun’s loss (for lack of a better word) of Soo-Ho is equally as devastating as Gray’s loss of Stephen. Shi-Eun still losing his light from his life despite fighting hard to protect him really got me so emotional. That promise of “see you tomorrow” that Soo-Ho’s now not going to be able to keep 😢

One of the things  that is extremely sad about weak hero class 1 is the endless cycle of violence and neglect towards all those kids.
It's not ok for a teenager to be so busy that he has to sleep in school, in order to not miss classes.
To tell your child that he's fine on his own, because he's so smart. It is only you justifying your neglect, It doesn't  matter how smart and mature a child is, they're still a child and it's your job as a parent to take care of them.
At the end of the day, kids are not supposed to be "mature for their age".
It's not okay to adopt a child because you're thinking about your image.
Those kids get beat up in school every day and there's no adult intervening.
No child is supposed to go through physical, mental  and emotional abuse at home, and again, people know about it and don't do anything.
When a child is going through bullying, you don't tell them to "man up" and hit back, you don't tell them that they are weak, you can't use violence to fix the consequences of violence.
It's neglect to move your kid from one school to another only because you're worried about your own image, you don't wanna  help your child, you don't care about what they're going through, you wanna get away from the problem, you want to ignore it, because you don't wanna be affected by it.
The fact that the adults basically let those kids by themselves, ended up leading the kids to solve  things the way they knew, with violence, because that's  what they see every day, at home, at school, they know they can't ask for help, because that would be a burden, that would be weak, that would lead to more violence. Due to the consequences of adults' actions, we are left with kids hurting each other, nonstop.
Those kids don't need more violence, either giving or receiving, they need help, they need mental health help, they need adults that they can count on, they need people to look at them and see them for who they are.
It's really sad to see that after all that pain and trauma that the characters faced, at the end, no adult was held accountable, it was their fault in the first place and nothing happened.
The bullying is not gonna stop, and the school will still act like it is not their problem.
Sooho is in a hospital bed.
Beomseok's dad is gonna continue being an abusive, horrible person, and nothing is gonna be done.
Sieun's mom is still gonna prioritize everything other than her own child, and his dad still not gonna pay enough attention.
And the kids will keep on trying to survive within this endless cycle.

There is this guy, Sieun, who was so traumatized by his parents, that he spend all school years just bottling up every possible emotion he had until he reached a point of burnout, because "he had to grow up by himself", but he is just a kid with no parents to go to, and no names to call.
And then he meets this guy, even tho he is in the same class, probably for years, he never bothered to meet him, any of them, they dont exist, just a noise in the background, and so he really m e e t s this guy in his class, this cool, unbothered, kind hearted and polite guy named Suho, and he cracks.
And so they become friends, and there is this other guy, who is not exactly Suho, he is second best out of people with no names, but he fits in. And there is something going on between this guy and Suho, and Suho doesn't know about it, but the guy, Bumseok, thinks there is, and there is something going on between Suho and Sieun, and Sieun doesnt know about it, but maybe he does, and there is this new girl, who saves them, or they save her, and Suho doesnt know there is something going on between her and him, but Bumseok knows, and he is wrong, because there is a thing between her and Sieun, and Bumseok doesn't care, because Sieun is second best out of people who have no names, and Suho is first, but its not reciprocated, its not mutual, because Bumseok is third, and Sieun is first, and Bumseok doesnt know he, Sieun, is first and she, the new g i r l, is not, but maybe he does, because he let's them, people with no names, beat Sieun into a pulp, because he, Sieun, is first, and he, Bumseok, is just a guy with no name among people who doesn't have them...
And so it goes, it goes, it cracks, it breaks.
And so this sad kid, Sieun, who grew up by himself, loses his first.
Loses his second.
Loses his third.
And, man, it's unfair.

weak hero class 1 rant because it’s 4am and im in my feelings and idk how else to deal with them *cracks knuckles* please don’t expect me to be coherent
it’s because of a twitter thread i made and i just wanted to elaborate more
if you didn’t click the link here’s what i said “this montage gets me every time because you realize sooho’s bright personality hid the fact that he was just as alone as sieun was, always sleeping at school for working part-time a lot, probably the reason why he had no friends, also refers to himself as the hyung with his peers. then the montage sequence ends with sieun being considerate, not turning the lights on like he did before and studying in the dark to not disturb sleeping sooho. the same day sieun wakes him up to have lunch together and they unexpectedly click.. in a way it was a friendship built from understanding how differently they lived but also similarly alone, and having each other made their lives a little brighter and i think that’s beautiful.”
also this hyunwook interview..
Tumblr media
i can’t seem to stop overthinking about the little detail that sooho refers to himself as the hyung (형 - older brother) with his same-aged peers (동갑). in korea, age is a huge deal and it dictates most of their social cues, who to respect and how much respect is given. and i can just imagine how arrogant his peers might find him for referring to himself as the hyung, it’s like he acts all high and mighty amongst them.
am not puting all clips of him doing this but i remember the incident with baseball kids in the first ep he told them to bring the passed out dude to the nurse’s office and said “형이 이름 말하면 뒤진다,” literally means “if you say hyung’s (my) name, you’re dead.” (and they aren’t even his same-aged friends because someone murmured “but we’re older than him..” still, they’re high schoolers all the same) in ep 2 “형이라고 부르고싶냐?” literally means “do you wanna call me hyung now?” (or “do you wanna give me respect now?”) in ep 3 while playing pool he said “형이 하는거 잘 봐라,” literally means “watch carefully how hyung does (i do) it.”
[edit: i remembered another instance. in ep 1, yeongbin’s group bothering sieun again in the classroom. sooho was disturbed from his sleep, “why are guys so chatty these days? 형 잠도 못 자게. 형 자도 돼? 응?” literally goes “hyung (i) can’t even sleep (with u mfs being loud). can hyung (i) sleep? hmm?” official subs: “someone’s trying to sleep here. can i sleep in peace? please?”]
i think he does it because he knows he was forced to grow up fast due to his living situation, and in his eyes this made his same-aged peers /more/ childlike(?) and immature compared to him, who’s already grown up and has adult big boy responsibilities to worry about than silly little exams and high school social hierarchy. he’s extroverted and has a sunshine personality, blunt and honest to anyone he talks to. he always knows what to say to kids his age to feel shame for the bullshit they pull. even with older people, the baseball kids, to gilsu “나이 먹고 그게 자랑이야?”
so yeah sleeping a lot at school due to working part-time for hours may have contributed to him not having friends (hello he follows like 5 people in instagram, such a skinny ratio with his 1k+ followers) but also he probably found it hard to relate and saw no reason to put effort in hanging out with them outside inevitable campus interactions. until sieun. sieun who sooho calls a weirdo, who’s really interesting, whose eyes say how empty he must feel inside but you can see the fire in them. sooho probably thought sieun would never initiate a conversation with him but he did approach him for lunch that one time. and finds himself enjoying the company. now he grew to love showing sieun that there’s more to life than studying hard and preparing for college. it’s all mundane things, eating, gaming, karaokeing, playing pool, “let’s drive all night long,” friendship and the kind of company that their families and other people couldn’t give.
sooho’s all sun and bright but he hasn’t found his person until sieun came along. both of them were very self-sacrificial, ready to risk it all and harm anyone to protect each other. i might just forever ache for sooho ending up on his deathbed after going apeshit seeing sieun hide the injury he got on sooho’s behalf.. and sieun throwing away his whole future when he went and hurt everyone who did that to sooho..
it hits different after i read the equivalent chapters in the webtoon because the suho-sieun-focused friendship story was prolonged for the drama adaptation. sooho was kinda not that interesting in the webtoon so i loved everything they changed and added for his character in the drama. but also like im upset because now im endlessly attached to him.. [edit: in case i piss off webtoon!suho lovers, it’s a personal preference. i love him too but i just cant help but be more emotionally attached to drama!suho] like fuck why did they have to write such a tragic friendship story between highschoolers im fucking done
end of rant ugh i hate myself for this

i LOVE that they gave soo hyuk and cheong san two seperate romance plotlines bc then why the hell are they flirting with each other in the middle of a zombie apocalypse once while precariously hanging off a makeshift rope and another time while shuffling along a thin ledge from which they could fall to their deaths at any time

Has anyone realised how flat Uraraka's hair is now?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even her eyes are more darkly highlighted.. and her eyebrows seem to make her very determined and set on her goal. Like you can clearly see the loss of innocence here.
I guess it signifies her maturity and also the dark era the manga is coming to, though any thoughts?

I was reading through your posts
I'm sorry a bear WHAT?
lmao
Ok so a bear once fought in WWII. He was a nice hard working man. His name was Corporal Wojtek, and he fought with Polish troops. He had an official military title cause pets weren't allowed. He was originally listed as Private Wojtek, but was later promoted.
Anyway, he helped soldiers carry boxes, actively helped in battle, and ate lit cigarettes for fun (would apparently spit them out if they weren't lit).
He was nice and didn't attack the soldiers he stayed with (they had him since he was a cub) and eventually got to retire in Edinburgh after the war.
I think he's pretty neat.

Why do you think Katsuki allows Kaminari to treat him in such a friendly, carefree manner? He sort of just… lets Kaminari move him around, dress him up, call him whatever, and just takes it from him, when it feels like he wouldn’t let just anyone do that…
no, I definitely don't think he’d allow just anyone to do it. there are a few things that factor in, I think.
Kaminari is very nonthreatening. like, that's not to say that he's a wimp or anything (far from it, I think he's a total badass). but he is extremely friendly and approachable and also very humble and self-deprecating. basically he's the type of person who makes it easy to let your guard down around him. super chill, and juuust mean enough so that he doesn't come off as fake or super-sensitive, but otherwise he's incredibly kind and accepting. and all of this is very important when you're dealing with someone as paranoid as Kacchan.
Kaminari is also just a naturally touchy person. he's like this with everyone, not just Kacchan -- the scene where he's sitting in the classroom absentmindedly playing with Ojiro's tail immediately comes to mind. and so after a while you kind of get desensitized to it when you're hanging out around someone like that.
Katsuki secretly doesn't mind it. he is introverted, but I don't think he's necessarily touch-averse. it's just that he's constantly trying to maintain his tough guy image, and so letting people get all touchy-feely with him all the time is counterproductive to that. and he also has issues with letting himself be vulnerable around others, so if there's a risk that the physical contact is actually going to make him Feel Emotions, he's usually quick to shut it down (this has happened several times with All Might for instance). but all of Kaminari's friendly touches are extremely casual, so there's no real risk of emotions getting involved. and because Kaminari is like this with everyone, it doesn't make Katsuki look any less manly by comparison, so he's basically cool with it.
lastly, Kaminari is extremely talented at finding ways to give Katsuki an excuse to participate in something without compromising his reputation. the thing is that Katsuki actually does care about his classmates, and enjoys hanging out with them (within reason) and taking part in stuff like the band performance and the Christmas party. but because he doesn't want to seem like a sappy loser, he can never just agree to anything without first putting up a fight. and Kaminari, with all of his friendly obstinance and persistence, has basically mastered the art of putting on just enough of a show to allow Katsuki to give in while still preserving his dignity. sneaking up on him to "trick" him into wearing the band t-shirt and Santa outfit, "goading" him into helping with the New Year's preparations by threatening to withhold his portion of the meat, and so forth. the other kids have all gotten pretty adept at this too, but Kaminari is exceptional at it.
so yeah, basically Kaminari is just elite at wearing down prickly bastards until they finally give in and accept his friendship lol. that, and Katsuki actually enjoys the friendship. deep down he really does have a warm gooey center, and Kaminari is fully aware of this forbidden knowledge, and just enough of a bastard to take full advantage of it, god bless him.
