hi ps, when remarriage happened dadi told all the guests to leave before the wedding itself started with the chaos she made and i wonder what those guests thought about arnav and his family and khushi because wasn't that kinda.. embarrassing no?
Hi hi!
Arnav's rich. He can buy new friends ;)
It would've been weird and awkward but I think we need to weigh that against the sheer awkward of getting remarried in the first place. I mean, Arnav is famous enough to be in gossip columns and celebrity-watch type shows.
They made such a big deal of Khushi falling into his arms at the fashion show, they must've had a field day with the news that Arnav Singh Raizada eloped (eloped!!) with the same woman a few months later. And they would've been confused and inappropriately invested in the fact that ASR, six months after eloping with the woman who literally fell into his arms, was going to marry her again in a public ceremony surrounded by family, and friends, and industry leaders. Can Kamlesh Khabri score an invite? Will the bride fall dramatically again? How did the younger ASR, Aakash, end up married to that woman's sister?
Given that it was probably a circus anyway, there's no reason to think that Dadi's antics would've changed public perception substantially. He's just some eccentric rich guy having eccentric rich guy problems.

Hi PS, I hope you're doing well. I sincerely hope your health is better and so are things on the personal front. I have been binge watching IPKKND as an escape from my depression and your blog has been a true stress-buster for me. I am currently watching Episode 423 (AKHaldi) and I was wondering if you had any insight into why they had chosen a blue dupatta as a make shift partition. I was thinking it'd been yellow/red. Any thoughts? No pressure. Thanks for your blog! & Thank you for your time!

Hi PS :) Hope you are good. In the under rated scenes mem, you have added the scene where Arnav tells Khushi, that he cannot remove her from his room. What really hits you in that scene. Other scenes I understand, but for this scene I want to know your view point. Thanks.-Ria
Hey Ria :)
Tumblr media
There are so many reasons hahaha.
(1) The sequence
It’s the morning after the Heer Ranjha performance and the fight on the stairs, Arnav knows that she’d gone to get his sister medication. He tried to make amends by speaking to Khushi about it but she (understandably) rejected his olive branch, which made all his anger and hurt come flooding back. In his mind, he’d been trying to build a bridge with the woman who was dallying with his Jija.
So he took refuge in anger. (And he wants to be angry, firstly because he’s conflicted about Khushi, and secondly because the encounter with Shyam has clearly left him spoiling for a fight.)
But Khushi spent that sequence trying not to anger or hurt him further. She removed her clothes from the poolside, found the Singhania file, and generally tried to be quiet and stay out of his way.
(This dynamic is taken straight from abusive relationships, right down to Khushi not knowing exactly what she did wrong and trying her utter best to not repeat it.)
2) The person he’s speaking to
Arnav’s telling Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada, the last person on Earth who’d knowingly hurt him, that she’s made his life Hell. In my mind, it goes with the scene on her Pag Phere day where he reveals that he’s been hurt by her and she can’t fathom ever hurting him that much.
3) His words
Since she was eight, Khushi’s been told to be quieter, better behaved, and more thoughtful lest Shashi regret adopting her. That she, in her natural, boisterous, fun-loving state, wasn’t (and still isn’t) deserving of her family’s love. So Arnav repeating that sentiment by essentially saying that she’s only tolerable if she’s not being herself broke her a little.
To make it worse, Khushi always wanted to be married. There was an element of escape in all the dreams she had. She idealised her husband as someone who’d be solely hers, the one person in her life she wasn’t indebted to. And here her husband was, telling her quietly and calmly (not in anger!) that he likes her silence because it makes tolerating her easier. That he doesn’t like her the way she is.
Thanks for asking!

Hi folks :)
Thanks for your patience and love and all the sweet messages and tags. You all have no idea how much it's meant to me. I've been logging in almost every day.
There's not too much to say but I guess I'm comfortable speaking about it now.
Just over a year ago Phata Kurta and I made the difficult decision to separate.
It's been a journey. It will be a while before I'm able to come back to the blog and fandom in any meaningful way, but I have been grateful every single day for the amazing community we have here.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Hi, Phati Sari! I absolutely love reading Charade! I do have a question about it however, what if she had left? What if she had agreed to his idea of leaving instead of proposing her own idea of marriage because she knew it was a bad idea, and it would leave everyone to shatters?
I feel like this is a very dumb ask but still I have some confidence because I’m asking anonymously.
Hope you answer my ask,
Thank you!
Hello!
It's not a silly question and the short answer is that we'll never know. The longer answer is that Khushi's leaving has huge ramifications for Aakash and Payal's life, which is the entire reason Arnav didn't suggest it in the first place. Arnav, for all his bravado, wasn't going to ruin two families and his brother's chance at happiness over what he saw was a mistake between two people. So the questions would be (as covered in the recaps of the forced marriage), how would Arnav stop Shyam from following Khushi and leaving Di while she's pregnant, and how would Arnav explain Khushi's absence without revealing the ugly truth?
The first terrified him, especially after Arnav confronted Shyam only to be told that Shyam loved Khushi in much the same way he, himself, loved her. He asked himself what it'd take him to leave Khushi and projected the answer onto Shyam.
The second was tricky because the Raizadas had proven time and time again that if they wanted Khushi in his house, and she wanted to be there, they'd just trick him and force the issue anyway. There's actually no way he'd be able to stop Aakash's sister-in-law from being in the house.
Hope that helps!!

Hey! I hope you’re doing well. I absolutely love your recaps, your analysis, the gifs, literally this entire tumblr (and the show itself) has been keeping me sane. As for my ask, have you noticed any resemblances between KKKG and DDLJ and IPKKND? From the more obvious (the difference jn status, the halwai ki beti), to other more subtle moments like how Khushi’s earring, then her dupatta get stuck to Arnav’s shirt in a strikingly similar way to how it happens the song “yeh Larki hai Allah”.
Hello :)
IPKKND isn't a new story -- Arnav and Khushi's story has been told in many guises many times before. The similarities you're seeing are mostly story-telling tropes being used and reused rather than conscious parallels. That's not to say the parallels aren't there -- they're simply there because all three stories are using the same template.
The beauty of IPKKND, for me, is not in the story itself but in how it's told.

Hi, I kind of wanted to check in? Are you ok? I can imagine things are busy for you as you haven’t been as active but I hope you’re doing well. I also hope you are still writing? Even if its not something to share right now, even if its just for you? You are a really good writer and I wanted to let you know, but I’ve still got my fingers crossed for an update on charade or rishtaa (honestly no pressure though, I just appreciate them alot). Anyways, I wish you well and hope to hear from you soon.
Heyya!
Thank you very much for checking in. You and everyone else who did :) I doubt I'll ever have the time to reply individually to each one (though I very much want to).
Honestly, my life imploded around a year ago and it's been a rough, difficult journey since then. I don't have things completely settled yet. I'm (on most days) well, but I find myself constantly overwhelmed. I haven't been doing much of anything, each day is about survival right now.
So I haven't been writing. I've barely been reading. I haven't watched IPK episodes for about a year.
But a few things I've been doing --
Loving the soundtrack to Pathaan (though hating everything else about it)
Absolutely loved Badhaai Do and have recommended it to everyone I come into contact with.
Watching Shadow and Bone and Bridgerton.
Watched Mere Humsafar and I liked it even though it got really weird.
:)

Hi, I recently found your space. Loved your writing. Just wanted to check how to navigate to the episode recaps write ups provided by you in the app. I see you have provided the links but for some reason they are not directing me to the right place.
Hello!
Thank you very much for reading the recaps. The Tumblr app doesn't allow you to navigate using the links. I recommend using a browser!

Hello Phati Sari,
Do you think Arnav would be fine if Khushi wanted to be an actress and had to play roles that required her to do intimate scenes with her costars? Let's just pretend Khushi went through some personal growth, is no longer prudish, feels comfortable doing such scenes herself and aspires to be an actress.
Thank you and I hope you're doing well!
Hello!
Not sure!! And I don't answer "what if ... " questions anymore on account of they're too hard!
Take care of yourself!

question about anjali
Hi Phati Sari! I hope you are well! I was just wondering if Anjali was engaged to someone before she got married to Shyam because in the flashbacks that Arnav has regarding his parent's death, it looks like a wedding is happening and Anjali is dressed like a bride. But Anjali and Shyam were only married for 2-3 years.
Hello!
Anjali was engaged to someone else, yes. That man left her at the altar when her parents died, leading to around ten years of no one wanting to marry her until Shyam came along.

I can't see the english subtitles in the IPKKND episodes. Do I have to activate them anywhere?
Hello,
You have to download them and use something like VLC player to play the video. You should be able to find guides online.

Hi PS! Hope you are doing well. You are incredibly gifted in analyzing the nuances of the characters and their emotions. Thank you so much for your recaps, it truly gives an insight into a character’s mindset and perspective. I wanted to know if Khushi’s act of returning the key to Arnav on bandagement (thus briefly jeopardizing Anjali’s married life) signify/imply that she no longer held the key to his (complete) happiness? Wishing you and your family a merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. Cheers!
Hi!
Hope your Christmas was great and that the new year brings lots of love and light into your life! Thanks for your well wishes!!
I think your theory is great! The key certainly did symbolise Khushi being the key to Arnav's happiness. I've always interpreted her giving up the key as giving up her haq to him. Arnav felt an entitlement or haq towards Khushi from almost the first meeting and Khushi felt something similar very early as well. He was always hers to annoy, to insult, to hate and whine about. The key ended up symbolising her haq to him, and Khushi giving it up was her acknowledging that she had no right to feel that way about him.
I'm really glad you like the recaps and the blog, thank you so much for the kind words!
