I forget not everyone who watches Ted Lasso is queer because I go onto Reddit and it’s filled with people being like “I think Trent will date Rebecca” and “why do people think all of these characters are gay” and “I had no idea about Colin”
something something joel and ellie interpret the radio transmission from bill and frank - an 80s song - as a call for help, and so does the audience. but then by the time we get to see what bill and frank have been up to, we understand that the 80s music playing on joel’s radio wasn’t a call for help but was instead bill’s playlist auto-shuffling after he died with frank. that this thing that the audience interpreted first as a sign of fear was actually a marker of love persisting past death. what we first thought would be scary was instead deeply tragic but also beautiful, kind of like the last of us as a whole… something something
Frank once had to beg for resources just to paint the house and Bill was reluctant because he didn’t understand it.
At the end of their lives, we see Frank’s paintings everywhere, all over their house and town. Which means that he not only was able to get Bill to see the importance of maintaining art and beauty, but that Bill went out of his way to make sure Frank always had paint on hand.
That just goes to show the strength of their love and Bill’s character development. One of the most romantic queer media pieces I’ve ever watched. Beautiful, gutting, perfect.
“Ethel Cain’s “Preacher’s Daughter” is a concept album — A story told by a girl that exists in an afterlife reflecting on her former life after she was violently murdered and cannibalized by one of her lovers. It’s a coming-of-age, queer story where religious trauma inflicts the main character and results in her ultimate death.” - Daniela Garofalo on Preacher’s Daughter.
