I might actually just be several nerdy cats and some Tolkien books stuffed in a trench coat.
Come for book/film/video game fandom thoughts, stay for 3:00 am insomnia posts. Will they be insightful or just weird? Who knows? I don't.
Saying it again, they want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you're undesirable.
Maybe my friends and I will stop using queer if and when, and only if, after the queer community workings out its own internal bigotries and stops trying to silence, invalidate and kick out the "wrong kind of queer". Because where some of us grew up, and some still live, and even under current laws, it doesn't matter if you are or aren't specifically gay, lesbian or binary trans, if you were anything that didn't match the "norm", such as bi, pan, anywhere in the aro/ace/demi, nonbinary, genderfluid or just gender nonconforming, you faced the abuse and discrimination of what you were perceived as by whoever was singling you out.
And then you find out about these communities for queer people and you think "great, a place where we can finally be open and honest", only to be ridiculed for not being the "the right kind" all over again, and now you have enemies on both sides.
Don't think those of you only using LGBT are being sly, everyone knows that for some of you the B and T are only there begrudgingly, and don't think we're thinking it's only length that you leave out the rest, when a + is right there for your shorthand if length were really the issue.
The queer community is no Utopia (or perhaps it is in the literal sense in that the idealized friendly and accepting community doesn't exist), and there is some serious cleaning house of internal bigotry and biases they needs to be done. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, so for now, either accept all terms were used as slurs at one point and for some people queer is what they feel comfortable using for themselves, and while you can ask them not to us it for you directly when speaking together, they also can refute your labels because maybe they're uncomfortable for them, or if for some reason that's wholly unacceptable and for whatever reason you feel entitled to knowing that kind of queer someone one is, you're probably part of the problem and exactly why they don't want to tell.
Everything is like “QUEER history” and “List of QUEER young adult books” or “Top 10 QUEER movies” and queer this and queer that and for the love of god please just say LGBT.
Miette has become such a cultural influence that even before I scrolled to the text I saw the label and out loud said "You bottle Miette?!" in the cat voice.
I can't be the only one surprised how casually you're just. Here. Mind talking about what it was like to like. Join Tumblr?
It was 13 or 14 years ago. From what I remember you just shouldered aside the mastodons, went into the Tumblr cave and carved your mark on the wall, telling people you were now signed up for tumblr, and then they would haul memes on animal hides past you. Back then it was mostly cats doing amusing things, obviously, but we would watch them by the flickering firelight, and chortle to ourselves hopefully before leaving the cave and trudging back to our lives.
being a fan of a friend's ocs is actually so humiliating....... like yes my favourite character rn is tragically doomed and a pillar of humanity who i think is relevant to the current world. you can find information about them on discord dot com and sometimes in late-night conversations with this guy i know. what the fuck
character in a movie: Oh no, angry dog, please don’t bite me!
the dog: I’m at work! I’m doing so good at being at work! I’m barking because my handler gave the sign ‘bark’! I am going to get such a good grade in being a dog actor, which is completely possible to achieve, and normal to want! I am doing a great job! I am proud of myself for doing such a great job! I love this, because I’d make it physically impossible to get anything done if I wasn’t enjoying it! I’m barking!
All my cats have varying numbers of paws in both camps. You'd think my most majestic floof would be 50/50 at least, but her rescue traumatic backstory, that the full versions of are the lost tomes of feline shelter history, means she is 3/4 the Creature. She's like a duplicitous fae, beautiful to behold, but beware the horrors below.
Her younger brother is 3/4 the other way, mostly the movie/story cat in the typical sense, though skewing more to cute than elegant. He's definitely got a streak of the Creature in him.
And their little sister is a 50/50 split, as would have been their late brother who was the most level-headed of them.
