as mcleod has argued, the decline of religion (vs. the religious revivalism in the post-war era) and the rise of the nuclear family with increasing focus on the house (with kinship and neighborhood ties weakening) are related. becomes very interesting to study miranda’s attitudes towards her home and her privacy!

anyway last month when we went to jewish antwerp for class, one of the orthodox jewish guys guiding us around was talking about sabbath . and there’s this thing he said i keep thinking about . how it’s actually liberating . and how that relates to miranda
