I found the most beautiful math book I have ever seen
Tumblr media
it covers the basics of algebraic topology: homotopy, homology, spectral sequences and some other stuff
one of the authors (Fomenko) was a student when this book was being published, he made all the drawings. imagine being an artist and a mathematician aaand making math art
just look at them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
other than those drawing masterpieces there are illustrations of mathematical concepts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm studying homology right now, so it brings me joy to know that this book exists. I don't know how well it's written yet, but from skimming the first few pages it seems fine
I just finished watching a lecture about exact sequences and I find the concept of homology really pretty: it's like measuring to what extent the sequence of abelian groups fails to be exact
I'm trying to find my way of taking notes. time and again I catch myself zoning out and passively writing down the definitions, so right now I avoid taking notes until it's with a goal of using the writing as a tool for acquiring understanding. I'm trying to create the representations of objects and their basic relations in my mind at first, then maybe use the process of note-taking to further analyze less obvious properties and solving some problems
I will post more about it in the future, we'll see how that goes

The more I see Neilman and Neilman stans talking about Gomens and the TV show. The more I realize pretty much everything in Gomens the book that resonated with me was because of Terry Pratchett. The flavor is just so completely different now in a way I can't put into words. Neil Gaiman is just a different writer than Terry Pratchett was. He makes stories about different things than Terry Pratchett. His characters are different than Terry Pratchett's characters. And the new Aziraphale and Crowley feel like Neil's version of them rather than Terry's. I am happy that some people out there got what they wanted, and have something that resonates with them. That's a good thing. I don't dislike the TV show and Neil's versions as much as I just...miss Terry's versions, and wish they had gotten popular instead.

Simple Notion Timetable Guide
Tumblr media
I'm very proud of this so I'm making a guide, cause I spent a while LONGING for a timetable in notion.
All you need for this is a database that has a date property.
Set up a board view
Group it by the date property
Tumblr media
3. Add a new property for the hour range
I chose even hours for this and used the formula and added :00 to the end to make it CUTE and shit
concat(if(hour(prop("DATE")) % 2 == 0, format(hour(prop("DATE"))), format(hour(prop("DATE")) - 1)), ":00")
Then use this as a subgrouping
Tumblr media
4. Since only the calendar view has the cute little timestamp, then add another property for the period of time which is again a formula
concat(formatDate(prop("日子"), "HH:mm"), "-", formatDate(end(prop("日子")), "HH:mm"))
and just enable this as one of the visible properties
Optional: set the card size to small and turn color columns on

Basic notion page + little intro
Tumblr media
So.... long time no see huh?
After an eventful breakdown-ful spring semester I am back and as a start I'm sharing a notion template i made inspired by nAtUrE and also all the cultivation novels i've been reading
the little guide includes a run-through of the content + how to change the amount of habits
if anyone wants the original chinese version that i made (note: i'm a beginner and i chose the words based on mdbg.net) then reply/reblog/dm/etc
The link:
The little guide:
Tumblr media
The colors dropper is just there for the schedule boxes. I didn't add any times and currently the names are long so this is just a general idea thing ya dig
Changing the contents of the colored boxes involves changing the 'formula'
Tumblr media
Press enter to confirm the editing and if you accidentally delete it then you can make a new one with $$ (formula copy pasted from another similar box) $$
The right side ("Cultivation") is supposed to be where you'd add pages for school, reading books and watching movies, your writing projects, etc
Tumblr media
The to-do list is for small running daily tasks that you wouldn't spam your calendar with. Each week click on add a new week and fill in the Xs and the month, and once you're tired of seeing that week there you can drag it into the Past weeks page where I've added a table of contents for easy organization (using heading 2's for the months)
Tumblr media
The second part of this is the calendar, some space for Cool Quotes cause I know people who use notion like this, and habits.
The way the calendar's tags are set up is color coded, I chose the names for the aESTHETIC:
seed - not started
sapling - in progress
tree - complete
stone - this is meant for things that "can't be completed", like events (doctor's visit, meetings, etc)
As for the habits, each day you click to add a new page and it will automatically date it for that day. For now there are 6 habits. Adding and removing them will disrupt the progress bar, so you have to change the formula
Firstly the formula for "Proggers" (intermediary) has to be changed to include all your habits (current form below with 6 habits)
Tumblr media
Secondly the 6 in the formula for "Progress" has to be switched to the current amount of habits. If there are less than 6 habits and you want a longer progress bar (works for any amount), then multiply the floor(...) by 2 and (6-ceil(...)) by 2 (or 3 if you want).
Tumblr media
I think that's it let's see if anyone uses this (whether as inspo or as the basis)

Third time's the charm to reblogging this on the correct fucking blog : )
I'm gonna try working and there's no chinese 3 this autumn so i'm only taking measure-theoretic probability theory (third time's the charm amirite)
I look forward to the weightlifting posts @student-by-day
no tags cause im pretty sure everyone i know has already been tagged
schedule tag!
now that the end of the school year is rolling around for most of us...
what courses have y'all requested or scheduled for next semester?
---
it'll be my jr yr when i take ap u.s. history, ap eng lang + comp, ap phys, h pre-calc (pray to athena for me), h spanish iii, choir, and weight training
---
tagging anyone who wants to share + @strangedftrm @em-hotep @sadcypher @adhyayana-v @coff-chee @the-abyss-gazed-back @seizethehistory @wolkenstudien

i went out of my way to take screenshots of my notes to post them... 3 weeks ago smile
writing chinese characters in the margins helps me stay at least semi focused (as opposed to drawing/thinking of other things/sneaking peeks at memes) so a lot of my notes and the print outs i'm given in topology are just chock full of hanzi from basically HSK 1 (we're using a taiwanese textbook)
somehow my middle-of-the-semester tests went well so that was nice and ive been managing to use notion to keep things organized for 2 months now

decided to show off my notion *:・゚★*:・゚☆
i mostly see people using the inbuilt "not started" "in progress" and "completed" tags but as someone who is the complete opposite of a perfectionist i really needed that "close enough xddd" tag
i really want to make the layout more cohesive but this is the only way it can look normal on both a computer and an ipad
also wish they gave us the power to put pictures next to databases alreadyyyyy

Imagine finding out 2 days before the test that an effective estimate and sufficient statistic are both statistics
Can't be me
So I made this summary mindmap beast in an attempt to remember all the formulae for the test tomorrow

Well I sure disappeared.. for a while....
I somehow managed to get semi normal grades last semester and now that I'm on meds i'm actually showing up to class and getting those sweet 'go up to the board and do an exercise' participation points
I also picked up mandarin chinese 1 but the class is slugging along so i'm learning HSK 1 grammar points in my own time for fun as well as cursive hanzi writing
Pics: chinese, math stat 2, renormalization methods in qft, stuff for my masters thesis which im starting very late cause reasons

So I keep seeing posts on studyblr about how to take notes, some of them “official” methods like the Cornwell method or whatever it’s called, others more based on personal experience/ideas, but basically all of those don’t work well with math and physics.
So I made examples of how I take notes in physics and math, which based on what I’ve seen from professors and other students is pretty standard. (Blue text is commentary on the notes)
Tumblr media
In math always start by defining the variables, because you will forget and you need to know all the assumptions you’ve made (like “did I define the function f as continuous, differentiable, bijective or just continuous and bijective?”). Drawings are good since they help visualise the abstract stuff (and look pretty), but not necessary. Always write down definitions, theorems, and lemmas, and ESPECIALLY their proofs. Exercises (both proof exercises and application exercises should be written down too, with varying detail based on how easy it is for you.
In math, and a bit less so in physics, you should always try to use mathematical symbols to shorten text. For the theorem I wrote what I would actually write in white, and below in blue I wrote the full, no symbol version of that. It’s pretty obvious which will be written down faster in class.
And never forget to write that sweet little quod erat demonstratum square at the end of a proof.
Tumblr media
In physics the only thing you ALWAYS have to write down is a work through of an exercise or proof (this, of course, includes defining the variables, unless you’re the same variables as last time and can refer back to those). Since physics is about THE REAL WORLD you should strive to draw diagrams constantly, since sometimes you won’t be able to find a solution until you draw the diagram and examine the system (some proofs, especially those in optics, rely heavily on diagrams to explain what the fuck is even going on).
Unlike in math, in physics everything has a unit, which you should ALWAYS mark SOMEWHERE, because you might figure an exercise out solely based on your knowledge of units.

Guess who has not been using notion cause they’re not used to writing tasks down and marking them complete, nor doing them on time (hint: it’s me).
Somehow (thanks to focusing hard on it and working through it religiously) I actually get probability theory 2 now, but now functional analysis 2 is the issue (but at least the professor for this is normal).
I’ll be having my first tests in a few weeks and I am not emotionally ready for that.
Figure 1: we got an extra practice lesson with another guy who tried to help us do exercises
Figure 2: Chapter 2 of Kauffman’s Knots and Physics
Figure 3, 4: Functional analysis 2 theorem, notes from class

idk why everyones convinced aliens moving through the stars would all be murderer killers bcuz i think aliens would probably need a strong ethics system if they ever wanted to get their shit together enough to traverse the universe but idk.

It’s been four score and twenty years since I last posted and promised to post daily.. And like 3 days since I tried to post but my wifi fucked me over and the post got deleted
Fig 1. From stats and probability theory 2
Fig 2. Optimal control theory notes
Fig 3. Measure theory from my probability theory 2 class
Fig 4. Functional analysis 2
It was decided today that in 3 weeks I’ll do a seminar about knots to the two others being supervised by my supervisor. I know nothing about knots as of now, so I’ll have fun reading through Knots and Physics for the first time.

hey! i just saw your studyblr tags ppt and its pretty sool! i just wanted to tell you tho that the reason the writeblr tag is mostly nano is because its not a studyblr tag. writeblr is for independent writers for original or fan fiction, not academics. youre probably looking for bookblr (books / reviews) if anything, but there isnt a tag for (liberal arts) academic writing in the studyblr community for the most part
I think people just prefer posting what they like to write (usually more along the line of creative fiction, poetry, fanfiction, etc) as opposed to the literary analysis essays they have to write in class (at least I think that’s what they do? The most lit analysis class I’ve taken was a translation class for a section of de bello gallico)
I just personally, as someone who spent a good 2 or so years on writeblr, feel like it’s very similar to studyblr: nanowrimo vs 100 days of studying challanges, updates on your writing (with excerpts) vs updates on your studying/thesis writing (with pics of the notes), learning about the writing process vs learning about x subject.
On the topic of bookblr, maybe it’s different now but when i went there last (2 years ago?) it was basically a goodreads dashboard but on tumblr, so it honestly didn’t cross my mind to check that out for the ppt.
I think most people in the liberal arts sect who enjoy writing-related activities settled mostly into either the writeblr tag, the langblr tag, or both (but then again i think everyone on this part of tumblr has had at least a small phase of I’M GONNA LEARN EVERY LANGUAGE RIGHT NOW IMMEDIATELY)
(Don’t mind the fact that I JUST answered basically the same question cause i didn’t think of making a combined post xdd) (nor the fact that this is more words than any of my homeworks)

hi i saw ur studyblr pp and was just confused as to how u subsegmented writeblr into it? we’re our own community focused on sharing information on the fics or novels we’re writing unless you’re talking about studying the process of novel writing or smth? just a curious ask, not here to start a fight 👉👈😔 x
I included it mostly because of the massive amount of guides in the tag (like interesting vocab lists, how to plan your plot, good vs bad characterization, etc) and the progress updates which are very similar to what studyblrs like to post.
Also writeblr is where I hung out before I started looking at studyblr so I got a soft spot for it
