Rewatching Masters of All Time (an episode i dislike for many reasons), i realized that if you just change Vlad's characterization and don't make him an abusive piece of shit of a husband, it could have been about Danny learning that Vlad could have been happy if it hadn't been for the accident and how the portal accident messed up his life in plenty of ways after seeing how Jack ended up in that alternative timeline.
So you have Danny gaining a better understanding of why Vlad ended the way he did in the real timeline while you can also have human! Vlad trying to stop Danny from changing it back because he learns what happened to him in the real timeline and he doesn't want to end up miserable that way. He has understandable reasons to be an antagonist without having to be written as 篓oh he was always evil篓 shit.
If the episode had taken this route, it could have been some good development for Danny as a follow up for TUE and probably one of the most interesting episodes in the season.

I was checking the list of episodes from the show and like i count that number of episodes between Valerie last focus episode in Season 2 (Flirting with Disaster) and her episode in Season 3 (D-Stabilized) is around 20 episodes.
Bruh, it took Valerie around half of the show to get another episode about her

Danny Phantom Season 2 is a fascinating case of study.
It has some of the best and most creative episodes from the series while also having not one or two but three standalone episodes that involve alternative timelines that are confusing and there for the sake of stupid plot or character decisions.
(Memory Blank, Masters of All Time and Fright Before Christmas for context)

#is it a descent into madness or a descent into sadness over all the wasted potential#I say both
Yes
Danny Phantom is such a weird show because the first 10 so episodes are really peak (with the exception of Splitting Images) and some of best set up start i have seen in an animated series and then just... doesn't exactly follow in the set up and it becomes more chaotic over time.

I think the issue is that people's attention spans (specially recent generation) have become worse thanks to the oversaturation of information and the way internet works, thus people paying less attention to when they watch a movie or read a book.
There has even been recent attempts at changing shows to make them so people 篓can scroll down their phones篓 while watching it.
Kids' attention span is a lot worse than my generation. It is hard for them to be able to sit watching a regular 22 minutes animated episode anymore.
the problem isn't just that media literacy is slowly becoming a dying art. it's that people straight up do not pay attention when they watch tv/film anymore.

what i love about mlp fim is that the power of friendship is not a symbolic thing it is a real and tangible force so potent it can be channeled into killing people

Phew! This took me all night. It鈥檚 7am now.
Anyway, I hopped on the screenshot redraw bandwagon (a little bit very late). I hope I helped make this gut-wrenching scene even more painful.
