Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Kristallnacht, the November 9 pogrom against Jews throughout Nazi Germany. On this occasion I post the destroyed front of the Zaudy store in Wesel, a design by Gerrit Rietveld. The Zaudy family was Jewish and not only lost their store in the Kristallnacht but were also physically attacked by Nazi troops. They were later killed in concentration camps. Given the current nationalist and anti-minority movements in Europe it is necessary to remind ourselves that history should not repeat itself and we should nip these tendencies in the bud.
