It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With…Breyer Wedgewood 2020 horses! A wedgewood has appeared here before, but it wasn’t these 2. Breyer seems to like the style/colors of this substance. Wedgewood is the name of a ceramic/porcelain china type fine material usually used to make items like powder boxes, trinket boxes, mini plates, jars & etc. It is characterized by raised white designs on very matte backgrounds. It’s most common color is the blue you see here (as the material is naturally blue) but it can also be rarely gray or black.  As wedgewood is blue…so then these horses are fantasy. The rearing up one is Statue of Liberty, and the standing one is Wedgewood Stud. Statue is quite lovely, with wonderful curling fantasy designs, interesting texture in the blue and great swirling hair. The pose is exciting and the fantasy wedgewood element is used to great effect. Poor Stud…well he’s just standing there with sort of wrinkly tail, small mane and no texturing for his blue. The spots pattern and lower leg fade is nice in blue and white but compared to the one above he is not as exciting.  These are likely to both be Traditional size, and so were likely fairly costly upon release in 2020. These are Breyer’s actual photos, I don’t own either one…but would own Liberty if the chance arrived. (Which it won’t, all these do is go up in value) These are nice and interesting to see, also to get people curious about old china once more.

It’s wild appaloosa time! This is Breyer’s Stablemate-scale Indian Pony, made over into a very flashy buckskin blanket appaloosa with blue eyes. She’s available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1408451529/songbird-custom-buckskin-blanket

I swear there are things going on in my life besides painting little plastic ponies, but they aren’t nearly as good at de-stressing me. Nostalgia + low-pressure art = Lupa feels much better about things.
Anyway, have a unicorn. Specifically a black unicorn streaked with metallic electric blue. I had trouble trying to capture the exact shade of blue (results may vary according to your monitor) but trust me when I say he’s even better in person. He’s available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1412319275/azure-custom-breyer-mesteno-to-black-and

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With…Breyerfest Limited Jackson Pollock Horse! Now HERE’s a super cool horse! Fortunately though..it doesn’t live up to the name. But first! Gorgeous rainbow color with lovely fades from one to the next are perfect for the ‘pinto’ type markings. The white in between balances it out and makes the whole scheme look so fresh and sunny. They didn’t have to give it super cool metallic gold dapples…but they did, and it only makes it better. Then, look at the little white points within the color areas, like little stars or something. Of course, this needs gold hooves to top it all off. The sculpt is great, and the pose is fun/action too. It’s perfect for the fantasy theme. Interestingly, they let in magenta for the face, which isn’t a color on the rainbow, but it looks very good here. (If you actually read about magenta, you’ll find it is a very odd color phenomenon) Everything goes so well together, this is a super-lovely horse. It’s too bad it’s limited so most people will never be able to get it, because it was a Breyerfest item. Jackson Pollock? Apparently Breyer did ‘artist inspired horses’ series of some kind, and this one is supposed to be for that particular artist. He became famous as one of the first people to do abstract impressionism by basically just slinging and splashing paint all around on big canvases. It created a “Scribble splashy mess” that critics criticized and not everyone liked. You’d need to do research to understand what he was up to, like ‘anti-representation’ (of stuff), and making things a bit fractal in a way. This horse doesn’t look like anything he ever did. He didn’t use rainbows, and there’s no curly/scribble lines. You obviously could do a horse based on his paintings, but if you look up the images, this isn’t it. Opinion Zone: This horse is better. I don’t like Pollock’s paintings as art items but all art-liking-or-not is an opinion. They are an ok abstract background but I’m glad the horse only shares the name…ish…because if you look him up he actually drunk-driving killed himself and his passenger so maybe murder? The whole topic is muddy now. But it would not stop me owning this, if I could.

I did it! I completed this year’s National Model Painting Month horse!
Glæsilegur is Breyer’s porcelain Icelandic Horse, released in 1992 (the last picture shows the original finish.) Sadly he’s not likely to ever be released in plastic or resin, and it took me years to find one that was scuffed up enough to justify customizing him. I made him over into a soft dapple gray–he’s the reason I’ve been making so many dappled models as of late, to make sure I was really prepared for him. I am just totally in love with how he turned out!
He is available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1408545286/glasilegur-custom-dapple-gray-breyer - shipping is included in price, and will be substantial given how carefully I’ll need to pack this fragile model.

Addy’s Cape Island dress is one that came out after I’d finished playing with her, and I wish it’d come out earlier because ah it’s just so cute!  It’s for the short story “Addy’s Summer Place” in which Addy, Esther, and Momma go to visit Poppa while he’s working doing construction work on Cape Island, New Jersey. It has some pretty great illustrations:

I love seeing Addy’s hair all curled!
The dress itself is based on this dress:

Addy’s Sunday Best is quite simply to die for. All that purple! Following the invention of aniline dye, purple was suddenly everywhere. Not just any shade of purple, a super bright shade of technicolor purple called mauvine. I wish I had a short story that went with Addy’s Sunday Best. It would have made even Harriet jealous!
