i have loved you the length and strength of a thunderstorm- that is to say, not for very long, but with enough power that one misplaced bolt of lightning would be enough to cause death.

15:46 when i left the house this morning i took your scarf. tonight when you demand it back i’ll pretend it was an accident and you’ll pretend it’s easy to mistake sky blue for blood red and we’ll pretend the elephant in the room isn’t choking to death on every stilted conversation [UNSENT] 15:47 it’s just that. it smells like you. and it’s warm like you and it matches the colour of your eyes like nothing i’ve ever seen [UNSENT] 16:00 did you remember to pick up milk??? [SEEN 16:09] 23:43 before i loved you i loved your smile. i loved your laugh. the tone of your voice when you tried to convince yourself not to order takeout again and the crinkle at the corner of your mouth when you inevitably failed. the way that you sprawled over the armchair, legs kicking in the air [UNSENT] 00:57 i miss you the way i think i would miss my left lung. i won’t google whether it’s possible to live with just one, i’ll leave that hanging in the air between us like everything else already is but i guess even if you could survive every breath would be a reminder. every breath is already a reminder [UNSENT] 03:04 the last time i told you i loved you it was because you’d stubbed your toe and then spent five minutes dancing around on one foot. the words escaped on the wings of a laugh i couldn’t control and they hit so heavy with their truth that you paused. i’ve never seen another girl look so unsure [UNSENT] 08:00 when i leave the house this morning i’m going to take your scarf. i’ll wear it through my first three lectures, write notes with the tail end wrapped around my wrist, wishing it was your hand. when i get home tonight you’re going to roll your eyes and laugh but it’ll be just as hollow as i feel with every extra message i don’t send [UNSENT] l.s. | [unsent] © 2017

sometimes my mother tells me she loves me and i don’t want to say it back / i say it anyway. she taught me long ago that what i want is not as important as what other people need. i am still trying to untangle that lie. sometimes my father hugs me like i am all he has left in this world. i want nothing more than to leave. i stay because i carry his heart on my shoulders and my shoulders are already shaking. if i move it will fall. i refuse to break hearts if i can help it / i cannot always help it. yesterday i fell in love with an idea, with a floating cloud of dust / half-invisible / choking on air, on the particles of you. tomorrow i will try to remind myself to look at the stars. i will forget to stare at the sky but this is fine / this is fine / i can find them in your eyes just as easy. next week i will try to remind myself to hold your hand. i will forget. i am too busy staring at andromeda / the chained maiden. love never lasts and this is how i navigate home. l.s. | HIRAETH © 2017

Hi hello I’m back from the abyss to say if you’re fancying a little bit of spooky reading in your life I got two amazing queer book recs: Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo and A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee! Both books are ghostly and creepy and absolutely reach into your soul fantastic 💀🙏😮‍💨
Summer Sons especially has like, taken it’s place in my brain and refuses to leave so. It’s basically the book that Ronan Lynch would write if he was a writer - fast cars, hot queer boys and ghosts!!!

QUESTION did it hurt when you fell from heaven?
ANSWER yes. my wings decayed.  i clutched at star systems to slow the fall  and the burns still smoulder, faint shadows of feathers seared  into bleeding skin. this is pain? i don’t like it. i want to go back. this aching… this is aching? why are my hands shaking?

You Know What it is to be Holy is the third poetry collection written by Lauren Shaw, and the second to be inspired by mythology.
It is a collection of 7 dictionary format poems, 6 of which are brand new, never before published. This collection is headed and partially inspired by Goddess, one of the first dictionary poems Lauren wrote, and a firm personal favourite.
“you know what it is to be holy. deep vein aches for wounds the earth feels, lightning storms and hurricane pain walking hand in hand across a ground you helped design. the thousand voices that scream your name in both battle chant and song. their lives are not a game but you play anyway.”
-Extract from the poem GODDESS.
That’s right folks… after months of nothing new I’m back with 6 brand new poems and a new chapbook! Woohoo! I’ve actually had these written for about a year, they just needed the finishing touches added and a front cover created but i’ve had no drive at all to finish. And then, out of nowhere, I ended up going through some of my old poems last night and getting super nostalgic, and that gave me the extra push I needed.
I hope you enjoy these, if you decide to grab a copy, I’d love to hear what you think <3
-Lauren

hey, I was just wondering if you have a better platform/published book where I can access your poetry? it sounds super good I love it a lot
AHHH I am so sorry I didn’t receive a notification for this so I only just saw it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I have some self published chapbooks that are available as PDFs to buy. I can’t link them right now as I’m on mobile but if you scroll through my feed you should be able to see them! I’ll reblog them myself in a moment if that makes it easier. And thank you!

Hi! I really love all of your writing, and I was wondering if it would be okay if I used a few of your poems (Monster Girls, Another Girl Died Today, Girl Survives, and I Like Girls) for a series of International Women's Day gifsets?
Sure go for it! Thank you 😊 just please make sure you credit me in the gifsets by linking to the poems used and this blog.

could I use one of your poems as a basis for an artwork of mine? full disclosure, I completely intend on giving you every credit, as I do not like stealing, but I thought I'd ask in advance, just to be sure
Hi!! Yeah that’s absolutely fine 🥰❤️
