Look, heteronormativity is a bitch, so I edited Max into one of Will and Mike’s heart to hearts to prove how romantic this scene really is.
I’ve been preaching that “if Will was a girl nobody would be questioning the romantic subtext in Mike and Will’s scenes” and I finally edited something together to prove it.
FYI: I had to slow down some of Max’s reactions and crop Lucas’s silhouette out of her shots. I also added the “On the Bus” music track over top of this edit to cover up some sound inconsistencies across these scenes. This is the track that was playing underneath Mike and Will’s scene anyway.
What I have NOT done is edit or distort any of Mike’s reactions, besides cutting out some content in the middle for time and doubling up one of the shots. Otherwise, Mike’s reactions here are exactly as you see them in the show. And I think that’s very telling.
Anyway, you be the judge. Obviously these two scenes weren’t a perfect match but I think the point still comes across. Think anyone would still claim Mike only has platonic feelings for Will after watching this?
this is actually my favorite part of the script when it comes to byler coding. let’s look closely at mike and el’s actions:
1. he grabs her shoulders.
his first instinct is not to kiss her, not to embrace her even, but to put his hands on her shoulders.
2. the physical contact is WARM AND INVITING; to them both.
forehead touch = platonic elmike !!!!!
“when i stumbled on her in the woods, she just needed someone.”
this “warm and inviting” stage direction HIGHKEY confirms to me that almondmilk is not being romantically coded anymore. not even a little bit. they’re literally having them embrace out of need for human contact. that is NOT romantic; they “just needed someone.”
3. (about the willel hug) their hug is STRONG; neither will let go.
clearly, this is the important hug in this moment, rather than the reuniting of the main couple who is currently in a really serious fight and the audience is wondering whether they’re gonna get back together ????
aka, the focus is mainly on will’s arc, and will’s arc is kinda centered around being in love with mike.
This week was absolutely bonkers. And it flew by so fast, feels like a whole month could fit in. I was back on a film set, I met wonderful people, I approved a few projects that I have researched for the company and so on.
This was almost magical and led to the fact that I started seeing angel numbers again, after a few months of nothing. Things are changing. And a lot quicker than I expected.
But it’s all going to make sense to me very soon. I’m in the right place, in the right company, on a position that suits me the most.
I am signing off November with this photo. Short captions will now mostly be fictional writing to practice my creative writing skills due to NaNoWriMo.
Russian literature can be so wonderful and so beautiful, when you find the right author for yourself.
This Week’s Book is...
The collected works of Fyodor Dostoevsky!
If you know, I have a soft spot for Russian authors (and Japanese authors). I went to a couple of bookstores with my crush on Saturday and we had so much fun buying books! I ended up buying this, the Resurrection (again), and the Scarlet Letter (for collection purposes). I love this funky Russian man so much (is it okay to call a literary giant “funky”?), I’ve been collecting his works nowadays. This anthology contains The Double, Poor Folk, Notes from the Underground, “White Nights”, “Another Man’s Wife” , and an excerpt from the iconic Crime and Punishment. And I bought it for 6,750 won (abt 5.71 usd)!
The weather is getting colder in South Korea now and here I am, accidentally ordering iced coffee while wearing five layers of clothing and a scarf. Stay safe and don’t catch colds everyone <3
i changed instagram accounts from my pretty active 500 to a completely new one and now no one can appreciate a picture that I took today.
i know tumblr has dark academia people here. please do your magic. i know it’s nothing new, but i find this photo so damn pretty. it literally tells a story of 2 young women that I don’t even know.
