You mentioned you’re a Pokémon breeder and a researcher, is there a particular kind of Pokémon that you research and or breed?
Oh with a question like that, you'll get me to gush! I'll try to keep this from getting too long.
Most of my current breeding work is for conservation. So I primarily breed pokemon who have smaller wild populations here in the Hoenn region. This looks pretty different from normal breeding since the pokemon are raised for release to the wild rather than a life with humans.
The pokemon we actively breed here at the sanctuary are Mudkip, Torchic, Treecko, Tropius, Torkoal, Lileep, Anorith, Kecleon, Corsola, Beldum, Nosepass, Chimecho, Absol, Bagon, Relicanth, and Kangaskhan.
Tumblr media
I also take in eggs from people who can't handle them. So we get a few litters from other species, but we don't actively breed them.
The Lileep and Anorith breeding program blends into my research too. I'm studying ways to improve breeding of these fossil pokemon since restored pokemon often have difficulty reproducing.
Otherwise, my research focuses on pokemon genetics, hybrids, and the role they play in the ecosystem. Currently I'm studying the Horsea and Skrelp lines. Specifically how natural hybrids of these species interact with the environment and impact genetic drift.
Please send me asks about my breeding and research! I love to gush about this stuff. I'll cut myself off here before I blab on forever though haha

I caught a wild Riolu and I want to introduce him to the rest of my team, which are a Dragonite, a Luxio, a Zoroark and an espeon. How do I make sure the introductions go smoothly since the riolu is pretty anxious and timid and I dont want him to freak out.
Congrats on the new friend! Introductions are exciting but the pressure to make a good first impression can be stressful too.
Remember that Riolu is still getting used to you and new living arrangements as well. So don't feel like you have to rush everyone together. Introductions will go better if Riolu feels settled.
You should introduce your pokemon to Riolu one at a time. Start with your calmest, most friendly pokemon. Once Riolu is comfortable around them you can bring in the next one. Keeping things gradual will be easier on everyone.
Keep the experience positive with food too. The positive association really smooths things over. Figure out what treats Riolu likes best to make it even easier.
I'm sure Riolu will be part of the family in no time at all. Thanks for the ask!

My riolu Storm got kidnapped by pokemon hunters last year and he was finally found and brought home today but there are some issues. He's a Lucario now and he doesnt seem to recognize me at all and he's openly hostile to me and my other pokemon. When he isnt hostile he's hiding and practically shaking from fear. Obviously something horrible happened in the year we were separated and I dont even want to imagine what could've happened. What should I do to help him?
I'm so sorry to hear about Storm's ordeal. There's no way to know what he went through, but it was clearly traumatic. It will be a long road to recovery. You'll be there to help though.
For now, give him the time he needs. If he wants to hide, let him. You should set aside a place just for him where he can be alone. Keeping some space will help everyone stay safe.
He will be slow to open up and trust others again. But with his own space, good food, and respect he can start the healing process.
There are pokemon counselors, but it sounds like he isn't ready to be introduced to anyone new yet. You should reach out once you can trust he won't be aggressive. They can help Storm work through his specific trauma
Just so you know, it's very possible the hunters tried to force Storm to mega evolve. You should probably steer clear of that potentially traumatic subject.
I wish you and Storm the best of luck!

Hey @pokemon-breeder-sky after a bit of thinking and talking with the littles I've decided that this little guy would have a happy life with you he is a male pichu/iglybuff hybrid with mainly pichu dominant traits outside of his ability to take in air like the iglybuff line to allow him to float he seems to be a fairy/electric type he lives to float about going up as high as he can but the main issue is unlike most purebred members of the pichu line he does not have the electricity housing cheek pouchs which makes learning and using certain electric type moves harder for him so I wouldn't be surprised if depending on how you work on that with him he may or may not loose the electric typing when he evolves into a Pikachu/jigglypuff anyway i am sending his pokeball to you right away I hope you both make many amazing memories together

Hi there. I'm writing to you to ask about tips on Perrserker behaviour. There's always been this problem with my Perrserker (M) where he can't seem to keep his claws to himself. I've already tried everything, from buying the most expensive scratching posts to filing his claws to be less sharp, yet he keeps damaging every scratching post I give him,the curtains, and if he sees any lying around, clothes. I'm really at my wit's end. How do I get him to stop damaging everything in my house?
Hi there! It sounds like you've done everything right so far with the scratchers, but this can be a really tough habit to break. In the short term, scratchers designed for dragon type might last a bit longer.
Perrserker are high energy pokemon in that they always need to DO something. There's a good chance that yours is just tearing everything up out of boredom. It might help to find some activity to burn off all that extra energy.
Most Perrserker love roughhousing and battles, so that's a good activity for them. But if battling isn't your thing, there are other options too. Some other activities I've seen for energetic pokemon are rock-climbing, chopping wood, digging holes, and even construction work.
It might take some experimentation, but work with Perrserker to find a hobby other than destroying your house. He'll be a more enriched pokemon by the end too!

This little guy arrived at the sanctuary just a little bit ago. He's already getting settled in! We've taken to calling him Zeke, which suits him well
We gave him a checkup first thing when he got here. He is in good health especially for a hybrid, though the lack of cheek pouches is unusual. He seems to have inherited the impressive lung capacity of Jigglypuff line too.
Then I took him to Mauville City to meet with electric type gym leader Wattson. He ran some further tests and assured us that the lack of cheek pouches won't impact Zeke's health. Wattson even offered to make a battery pack to help Zeke use stronger electric moves, but Zeke wasn't very keen on that idea.
Zeke's making fast friends with Azalea (an Audino / Indeedee hybrid). She's been showing him around the facilities. We can tell they're having a lot of fun together and it's so cute! Thanks @alex-ishvan for sending Zeke our way!

hi sky! i'm someone who's grown up around pokemon but i've never had my own because my mom's always let me borrow hers to keep me company and make sure i'm safe. however i've been starting to itch for a pokemon to call my own and there's so many options out there! i figured someone as experienced with pokemon as you might be able to help me narrow it down. are there any calmer or 'safe' ones that you think could suit a newbie? getting typical 'starters' are a bit difficult for me too sadly
Finding the right partner can certainly be a stressful time. The typical starters are high maintenance, especially after evolving.
Finding a good fit really depends on your lifestyle. So I dont have a lot of details to go on.
But I can offer some suggestions that tend to be calmer and easier to care for. A few smaller bug or grass types are low effort and don't need as much space. Examples of these would be Caterpie, Burmy, Sunkern or Cherubi.
There are some others that don't get too big like Plusle, Minun, Minccino, Snubbull, or Jigglypuff. I would recommend getting a species native to your region too!
There are tradeoffs between adopting or getting from a breeder also. The pokemon in shelters really need to go to a good home, but can be a mixed bag of personalities. Pokemon from a (responsible) breeder will already be well socialized and easier to train.
I've just kinda outlined some basics, but you should definitely mix things up to match your lifestyle and interests. As long as you find a partner you mesh well with, everything will turn out right. Thanks for the ask!

any cool facts about those from the honedge line? :o
Sure thing! I already made a post about these guys Here, but I have some more fun facts to share!
Territory of the Honedge line is easy to identify due to the distinctive slashes in the foliage, which this lines uses to practice their technique.
Some gardeners have put this habit to good use by training the Honedge line to precisely trim hedges and topiaries.

Hello! I’m a fairy/poison type trainer and training under roxie’s wing, I went to the galar region to explore the wonderful things I heard about it! But I saw a different colored venipede getting attacked, the best I can do is save it and bring them to the Pokémon center. Why is the venipede a different color from its original one?
Good for you for helping out that Venipede! They're not the most popular pokemon and many people just pass them by.
The Venipede might be a different color for a few different reasons. Mostly likely it's some kind of variant that just has a different color for no particular reason. One of the most popular variations is shininess due to its rarity.
Diet, injury, or preparing to molt could also change a Venipede's color, but those usually aren't drastic changes. Thanks for the ask!

Im heading to Galar for a family reunion in a month and Im bringing my three pokemon Lucario, Houndoom, and Cleffa (named Ricky, Blaze and Puffle respectively)
Since we're going by plane Blaze will have to be in his pokeball since he will probably try to tear up the plane seats. I'll have Puffle in my lap. The issue is Ricky.
Ricky absolutely hates being in his pokeball and only goes in it in severe emergencies. So getting him into a pokeball for an eight hour flight will not happen. Plus Ricky is my service Pokemon so thats another issue. My friend said that ant pokemon bigger than Puffle will have to stay in their pokeballs the entire flight, service pokemon included. Is this true or can Ricky stay out and sit next to me?
Good news: Ricky should be allowed to stay!
Some species must in a pokeball to fly; you cant just put an Onix on a plane of course. But any pokemon should be allowed to ride in their own seat if they aren't too heavy, can fit in the seat and seatbelt, and can behave themselves for the full flight.
You can even get some exceptions to those rules for service pokemon, so Ricky shouldn't have any problems. Have a nice time in Galar!

Luvdisc on Valentine’s Day
Please do not give a Luvdisc as a Valentine’s Day gift without preparations to care for it! Every year hundreds of Luvdisc are abandoned after Valentine’s Day.
If you decide to get a Luvdisc, a small tank won’t cut it. Even freshwater variants need a lot of space. You would need a sizeable body of water or a very large tank to house a Luvdisc. They should also have at least one pokemon friend who can stay in the water to keep them company.
Besides, there are literal tons of Luvdisc-related alternatives for Valentine’s day! Troops of Luvdisc put on beautiful shows around this time. Or couples can get a professional photo with a Luvdisc. You can even get jewelry made from Luvdisc scales!
Please enjoy the holiday, but remember to treat these romantic pokemon with respect too!

Hello Sky i don’t know if you’d be interested but @alex-ishvan is hosting an adoption drive. Several breeders during the recent holidays overstressed their Dams to meet the demand and as a result produced several litters of Paternal hybrids that unfortunately couldn’t be sold. Alex is currently looking for their forever homes would you be interested in potentially adopting?I could send you a link to the updated post to see the one still available? As a professor you may find the unique experience of raising a paternal highbred rewarding.
I'm totally interested! Though I'm not a professor, I do a lot of research in hybrids and pokemon genetics!
I'm not looking for new team members at the moment, but we're pretty well equipped at the sanctuary to deal with most hybrids.
@alex-ishvan If any of them are having trouble getting adopted or have special needs, feel free to send them my way. We'd love to have them!

My Pangoro Stella lost her baby in a wild fire a year ago and it left her devastated. But recently she has started mothering a wild Riolu thats been hanging around in the forest near my house. Its very adorable and sweet but it seems the Riolu's actual mother, a Shiny Lucario, isnt a fan of this since I caught her growling at Stella and I almost had to break up a fight between the two. I dont want to make Stella feel worse but how should I go about solving the situation?
Sadly there are no easy fixes here. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not Lucario will accept Stella. The Riolu shouldn't be separated from its mother, and a fight would certainly break out if Stella just tried to take over.
You and Stella could try offering them food and slowly letting them get used to your presence. Unfortunately, Pangoro are known for their intimidating appearance which won't help. But the fact that a fight didn't break out the first time is promising!
If you earn Lucario's trust, she might welcome a co-parenting situation where she and Stella both take care of Riolu. Co-parenting is surprisingly common even among wild pokemon.
If things dont work out with this Lucario, you could try adopting an egg or other young pokemon. It seems like something Stella would really enjoy. Thanks for the ask!

Due to their love of fruits and berries, Noibat serve a crucial role in the ecosystem. They pollinate and distribute seeds for various plant species.
Because they use their sonar to determine exactly which fruits are ripe, they spread the seeds at the perfect time for germination. They are so effective that Noibat trainers will get random berry trees growing in their yard.
Their sonar has other uses too. Farmers and chefs get help from Noibat to determine produce ripeness. Their sonar was even used in early medicine to diagnose internal conditions without surgery.

Breeder Sky me and my town need some help! We need to calm down a gigantamax Pikachu! It's disastrous! Do you have any advice?
Oh Gosh! This is not my area of expertise at all. I've never even been to Galar.
You should call a gym leader or ranger or whoever closest is trained to deal with these situations.
The only other advice I have is to gather any trained ground types and any pokemon with lightning rod ability. These guys should be able to deal with the Pikachu's electricity and keep it from causing more damage. The ground types might even be able to fence it in so it can't trample anything in the meantime.
Good luck to you all! Sorry I can't be more help. Gigantamax pokemon wear themselves out eventually, right?

While Avalugg are capable swimmers, Bergmite struggle with more than staying afloat. Their legs are just too small!
Rather than trying to swim, Bergmite often just hitch a ride with their evolved form. So even if you just see a Bergmite in the water, there could easily be an Avalugg just beneath the surface.

Why is Altaria classified as a Dragon-type? It looks like any other bird Pokémon. Shouldn’t it be Normal/Flying instead?
It's true that Altaria is closer related to feathered bird pokemon, most of whom are normal and flying types. But fundamentally they are dragon types because they harness draconic energy, inheriting all the accompanying strengths and weaknesses.
Pokemon types are much more flexible and complicated than you would think. Some pokemon like Ditto and Kecleon can easily change their type. Pokemon like Sudowoodo look like a very different type than they are. And many regional variants are different types from one another while still being the same species.
The world of pokemon is wild, wonderful, and full of surprises! 😊
