Whitty, if your comfortable with answering, what’s it like being corrupted and how did it happen? If your not comfortable with answering it’s okay!
Whitty’s smile fully drops, and he sighs, putting his head in one of his hands and looking at the floor.
“Being corrupted is like… being in a large ocean of tar. It’s sticky, and you’re sinking, and the further you go under the harder it is to swim back up. The less corrupted you are, the more the tar turns to water, but also the more wild the waves get. When you have control but are still mostly corrupted, then it’s more like being in a raging ocean within your own mind.”
He pauses, and shuts his eyes.
“I got ambushed. Very early on. I never meant to take anyone down with me…”

So whitty how did you get the wings? Maybe we could use them to scout for a nearby water source!
Whitty grinned.
“We have been! I’m glad to be so useful. I’ve searched in a few directions for a few miles, but still have some places to check. No matter which direction it’s in, though, we know there’s no really large water sources for at least a mile in every direction. As for how I got the wings…”
His grin faded a little, but didn’t drop.
“It’s… part of being uncorrupted. We don’t just go back to normal. Honestly, even with how helpful they’ve been, both with the corruption and with my relationship with Updike, I’d prefer to have never been corrupted at all…”

Hello Whitty, nice get-up.
Whitty looked around for a moment before he shrugged and headed to continue his day.
“Thanks. My other clothes were kinda ruined by the corruption so me and Updike went and… ‘borrowed’ some clothes in my size from a nearby store. Unfortunately there weren’t any shoes meant for claws, and we had to cut the wing slits ourselves. And by ‘ourselves’ I mean Updike did it for me.”

So, is Whitty okay? Sorry if this has already been asked
Updike walked into the clearing and looked up at the base. It was on the smaller side, but had obviously had many makeshift extensions since. They went to the front door and opened it.
“Yes, Whitty is fine, though he-“
“UPDIKE!!!”
Speak of the devil, Whitty carefully maneuvered through the small crowd in the entry hall and stopped in front of Updike. His bat-like wings were twitching.
“Where have you been??? I was so worried!!!”
Updike looked confused, tilting their head slightly.
“What? I left a note.”
“Updike, you wrote ‘I’m going out, if I don’t come back in two days assume I’ve died or been corrupted’. That isn’t exactly reassuring.”
“Okay, but-“
“Updike oh my gosh- did you get attacked??!?”
Whitty’s wings flared. Updike sighed.
“Yes, I have to go wash, but can you take my backpack? It has supplies.”
“… Okay, but we’re talking about this when you’re done. You’re the leader here! You can’t just disappear whenever with only a vaguely worded note for us to know where you are.”
“… Sorry.”
Updike is temporarily unavailable for asks.
Whitty is now available for asks.

How do you guys get rid of the corrupted if they were to try to enter your base?
Updike carefully stepped over a part of the sidewalk, and continued on a bit further before ducking across another part.
“Well, our first line of defense is traps. If they get past them, though, we have a few different types of nets, various weapons, and lethal force as a last resort only.”
He paused for a second, made sure he was in the correct area, then made a short leap over a section of the path.
“… We’ve only had to use the weapons once, no deaths yet…
… I still hated every second of it.”

Speaking of the base, hows everything holding up there?
Updike slowed down a bit more as they walked across a road, continuing down the sidewalk on the other side.
“Well, I’d say. Aside from the problems I’ve mentioned already with the water and electricity, we don’t often get attacked and morale is high. The next step is probably that pump system, but other than that we’re back to the main goal of uncorrupting anyone we find and fixing communications with outside.”
They then turned sharply onto a path going into a forest, taking much slower and more precise steps.

Oh Shit cloud man, you might want to wash your hands soon.
He waited for the corrupted to check the alley and leave, releasing a sigh of relief when he was sure it was gone.
“Yes, I know, I have to get back to base for that, which is where I am going. Speaking of,”
After finishing his sentence, he carefully got down from the wall and kept running, at a slower pace than before.

How the fuckity fuck did you learn to uncorrupt people???
Updike rounded a corner, footsteps behind them getting louder. They dropped their voice to a whisper.
“It was surprisingly easy. A good shower with a good body soap for a few hours does the trick, but water’s getting rarer and rarer. We’re working on a pump-filter system connecting to an ocean, but those are quite a while away.”
They ducked into an alley, taking off their other glove and scrambling a good distance up the wall, digging their claws in deep.

Updike, out of curiosity- what was your first encounter with a corrupted like, or when you realized something terrible was happening?
Updike glanced back, then ran a bit faster.
“To keep things short, let’s just say that it was fairly obvious something terrible had happened when every television station all started repeatedly saying ‘Join us’ over and over again with blood and various corrupted people on screens all around the USA.”
He glanced again, down at his hands this time, and at the small amount of corruption on his arm and fingertips.
“My first actual experience with a corrupted was not long after, a small girl I believe, with long horns and a corrosive acid she could spit from her mouth. I made it out, but the surroundings weren’t so lucky.”

Updike, look back! You have a corrupted fella over there!
Updike froze at that, unholstering his gun.
“Wha-“
Tumblr media
“Rrrrrrrrrr……”
The creature pounced, and Updike swiftly raised an arm to block it, but the corrupted just sunk it’s claws into his arm. He swore under his breath quietly, as he realized that he’d used his gun arm, before taking his glove off his left hand, revealing his own claws as he swiped them across it’s face, then running past it and out of the store (hopefully) before it had a chance to recover.
“Thank you for the warning, sincerely- I don’t think I’d have noticed it before it was too late. I have to get back to base, fast…”

Updike walked out of the aisle, stopping at the display and looking solemnly at the moldy bread inside.
“… I think I’ve gotten all I needed from here for now. I might stop somewhere else on the way back.”
He sighed, and shifted his backpack a little.
“…”

What we lookin for? Non-perishables? Canned Shit? Loafs of bread?
Updike finally managed to get the second sliding door open, walking into the store as they looked through the various items on display.
“All of the above, if we can find them, though all the bread has gone stale and moldy by now. I’ve been here before- didn’t have the strength or backpack space to carry everything I found. Chocolate would be nice...”
They walked into one of the aisles, picking up and looking at the dates posted on the food one by one.

Prolly something a bit dark, but who are the other survivors back at base? If there’s any at all.
Updike put his hands on the sliding door, testing it a bit before struggling to push it open.
“Ngh- yes, there are others, and too many to name at the moment. Ever since we figured how how to- hhh- how to uncorrupt people, our population’s been growing steadily. That’s why this supply run is so important. We’re running out of food, fast.”
With a few more pushes, he managed to open the doors enough to squeeze into the store itself...
... wait, there’s another sliding door. Nevermind.

Updike turned the corner, and...
“I’ve arrived.”
They stood in the large parking lot, looking up at the worn and broken sign, some letters missing or having fallen on the ground.
“At Whole Foods.”
“... Hopefully there’s something that hasn’t spoiled yet in there.”
With that, they began to walk to the doors.

What are your thoughts on the new polo g album coming out soon? I’ve seen a lot of hype but idk ive just never gotten it o his sound
Updike blinked, stopping in his tracks for a moment.
“What?”
After the pause, though, he continued walking.
“We don’t get reception here. The only music we listen to is downloaded, if at all since we don’t get any power either and energy is precious. So I’m afraid I can’t answer your question.”

WHAT PROBLEMS? 👀
Updike flinched at the loud voice, “Keep it down...!” before taking a deep breath and regaining his composure.
“My coworkers are taking care of the others, and the survivors and uncorrupted are too... emotionally unstable to be out and about.”
He glanced up at a road sign. “Only a few more blocks...”
