quick rambling about bad buddy episode 4 :)

damn, i wasn’t expecting for this episode to hurt this much. i was so sure that it will be fluff, but i was blindsided (in a good way). there is so much to talk about, but in general i suppose what i can say for now is:

i don’t hate Pat at all because if that is what he thinks what he feels at the moment, we cannot blame him. but i am still sure that he’s been in love with Pran for the longest time. i just don’t think he would have done all these things if he only sees Pran as a friend. he felt it too during that rugby match the way that the game did not even matter anymore if it means he can protect Pran, but Ink’s appearance back into their lives had him all confused.

about Ink -- i like that she’s not someone who just appeared out of nowhere. she was their classmate since high school and she seems like a close friend, too. why would she give them a matching friendship bracelet if that’s not the case? for me, her character is not a threat and she may even be a good catalyst for Pat and Pran to start facing their own feelings. her history with PatPran makes her an important character, and not just a random plot device so i hope people do not jump on the hate train immediately (unless we’re proven wrong).

for Pran -- damn, i was with him throughout this episode (Nanon is just so, so good i love him). i felt everything that he felt from jealousy to worry, relief, and still swooning and falling for Pat. when he asked Ink if she likes Pat, he was sincerely hoping that she would say no and when she did, he was really relieved. a part of him feels and already knows that there’s a high chance that Pat likes her, but he was hopeful that it might not be the case. alas, Pat does, and what he felt and all the emotions he went through is something we recognize because we’ve all been there at one point. realizing all of a sudden that we do not have a chance with a person that we loved for so long. for this, i am extra protective of Pran. but his pain is hardly Pat’s fault.

still, what would Pran have done if Pat said no? Pran has a vital information that Pat doesn’t know which is that Ink does not like him. this is something that i’ve been thinking about. would he have taken the risk?

watching the preview, Pat asked Pran “if we’re not enemies, don’t you think we can be friends?” -- i realized that all this time Pat still thinks that Pran still sees him as a rival, and so that is how he looks at Pran too for the most part. remember the bus stop scene as well when he was lamenting that Pran is always hard on him and Pat was implying that it seems like Pran does not even see him a friend. i think that this is a really important detail that they need to deal with. Pat genuinely wants to be Pran’s friend, but Pran is already beyond friendship at this stage. what do they do now?

i like the way that this show is progressing. it seems so simple but these two characters have such complicated feelings. Pran is ahead by being already sure of his own feelings but he does not act on it and often does the opposite, while Pat acts out of a love that he does not realize yet.

i am so excited for what is yet to come. but for now, i am going to feel everything that Pran felt in that last scene.

so,, do we agree that after last week's episode when pran said he was gonna move something awakened in pat? he doesn't want to lose pran again. he's keeping him close and reminding him that things /do/ go well when they're together. he's calling himself his friend, he gave him his guitar back...

pat already lost pran once already and didn't get to see him for three years. so when the possibility of losing him again appeared, he went to look for him in person and told him not to move. since then, he's been wanting nothing but to keep whatever there is between them alive.

it still physically hurts to even think about what both of them went through when pran got transferred. pat's not willing to go through that again. he'll put down each and every one of the walls pran builds around himself and get him to accept him to, accept the fact that they work well together.

i'm honestly obsessed with pat. he's way more than he seems at first sight. now i wonder what amazing moments he'll gift us in next week's episode.

agree with this so much. i like that it’s not simply a matter of liking someone for the longest time. instead the show gives us reasons why that feeling still exists to this day and why it never went away and continues to grow. we get that pov a lot from pran, his feelings for pat makes sense to us and we support that feeling because pat is exactly the charming and good person that pran sees that we all also see.

it’s definitely painful for now that pat tends to make a joke out of these caring and flirty things that he shows towards pran (makes more sense now why Just Friend is written that way). but it’s not because pat is playing pran. it’s just that it’s taking a while for him to realize his own feelings or he has not been able to make sense of it. but i am sure that when pat gets there, once he realizes just how much he’s gone all this time, he’ll be there all the way.

it’s insane how much i trust in their love with just three episodes in. but their intensity is just so affectual. they are worth rooting for 🥺

for me personally, it feels like i am much more in pran's pov than in pat's. i totally get the people who say that pat is already in love with pran and there are scenes when i am yelling: IT'S CRYSTAL CLEAR! (gurgling more because i lay on the back with my pad on my belly and try to drink something in that position), but, again, as i feel more connected to pran in this episode i get whiplash because i understand where he is coming from and when pat is deflecting his flirting with jokes at the end which makes you go mhm and pran's face flat then i am feeling his confusion too. i need this stuff spelled out that's why it was such a good move to not let people guess on pran's feelings but to make it clear at the beginning of this episode how he has always felt.

i can't often relate to the closed-off character in dramas, to the one who pushes the other away but with pran we know, we know how much he's in love with pat and how this hurts him. how he tries to close himself off. and that's especially genius because the family feud narrative wouldn't have carried pran's attitude especially when it was clear that they tried to not let that affect them. pran's behaviour stems from his crush and that's so relatable and they don't beat around the bush with it, you get to know now and don't have to piece the puzzle together.

I think we all can list up two or more shows when the main couple is a pair just because, because the story says so and there is no tangible reason for it and bad buddy gives you the reason. pat is lovable, he's charming and warm and wants to make wrongs right and help.

it's painfully obvious why pran fell in love with him and wasn't able to lose those feelings in the three years away, why he most likely fell again and maybe even harder because college pat? much more devastating than highschool pat.

this is why this show feels so satisfying. I second guess myself a lot in this show, yes, because I personally connect more with pran's pov, but you get the answers right away and that's instant gratification that I don't have often with shows.

as I scrolled through the tag I saw darkterrible's post "I went in for Pat and stayed for Pran" and that's so true, actually painfully true.

And for my and pran's sake, I need pat to spell it out, I need him to clarify if he wants to be friends or more and maybe pat is still on the 'i want to be friends' path, it looks like it in the previews, and I won't be able to bear the pain on pran's face.

they’re so hopelessly in love with each other it’s sickeninggg. i loved pat so much in this episode. we can totally trust him with pran’s heart.

pat, in episode 3 alone:

made pran a pick out of his student card (albeit in a flashback, but one pran was remembering himself),

shared his food,

paid for pran's food,

admitted he wanted to wait for pran after the meal,

repeatedly reached out to pran despite the fact that he was ignoring him in attempts to apologize and fix something he wasn't even directly responsible for,

generally reached out to pran as much as he could, showing how much he enjoys spending all his time with him,

asked pran to go with him to a place he knew would remind them both of a time when they were happy together,

suggested that he and pran pretend to be a couple and felt very comfortable in his role,

encouraged pran while he was making the bus stop, and genuinely told him that he loved his ideas,

went out of his way to help pran with rebuilding the bus stop, including finding a way to make it in the first place, helping with funding, giving ideas for the design, and convincing the guys from engineering who hate architecture's guts to help them out,

gave pran back his guitar, that he's kept for years, risking a lot of things - including being punished by his parents,

asked pran a lot of small questions that indicate he is very interested in everything that pran likes/feels/thinks/etc.,

used any excuse he could to touch pran (including full-on pressing their bodies to each other, on multiple occasions),

had the biggest heart eyes whenever he looked at pran (not just when he didn't see either - it happened many times when they were looking right at each other),

couldn't stop smiling when he was around pran,

flirted with pran relentlessly.

pran: this must mean nothing. we aren't even friends.

Some notes on Bad Buddy E01 which I enjoyed very much.

The 1st episode established the reasons why they are rivals since they were born — their families. During a standoff in the middle of a fight, Pat and Pran tells us about it, but they have different versions of the story. So we do not know which one is the truth.

We also learned the origin of why Pat’s gang got into a fight with Pran’s gang: a football game. It was petty, but it remains true to who they are. Pat and Wai are both hotheaded, so prolonging this fight is expected from them.

Both of these situations put Pat and Pran in a rivalry that they did not really choose. It seems that they are always caught up in a situation caused by their external environments. They are always made to fight each other. But what if they choose not to? What stands to break them apart also sort of binds them. There’s their shared interest in music, their friends who they need to band together, and even their own majors in college inherently complements each other. They just naturally gravitate like soulmates.

But what really binds them is Paa, Pat’s sister. When Pran saved her from drowning, Pat feels like he owes Pran. It’s probably mixed with shame disguised as pride because he just stood there and couldn’t respond right away to save his own sister. So I have to say that even then, Pat seems to just respond naturally to feeling like he should always protect Pran to pay him back for saving someone important to him. At one point, he will reevaluate that feeling and discover something new about it.

They’re reluctant rivals, at best. Some hints also point to them having a deeper history throughout the years especially back in high school. So I am curious to know what caused their falling out, and why Pran transferred to another school.

My favourite part is this conversation. It feels like they are reconnecting, in a sense. It’s comfortable even with that distance between them. There’s restraint because of their push-and-pull. They take little steps toward e/o, then stops when it gets too close.

I do not really know why Pran would suggest getting each other’s chat ID, but it made him happy. There is really so much more that we’re yet to discover about his motivations. But for now, I like that he’s taking these little steps.

If it was an old and worn out watch as Pran said before, why would he start wearing it again the moment he reconnected with Pat? It seems to me that he’s the one making an effort to re-establish what they had before, and I hope it unfolds beautifully.

To me, this pilot episode planted the seeds quite well. I really liked that there were two versions of what caused their family’s rift and we’re not sure which one is the truth. I also like this idea of one of them possibly already in love with the other who is clueless — imagine Pat misconstruing everything that Pran is doing as just him getting on his nerves or trying to win a bet that they will make later on. I have a feeling that this will be a very character-driven show. I am even already invested w/ Pran’s possible feelings at this point.

Other things that I enjoyed:

Ohm and Nanon’s chemistry is really great. They’ve got so much going on even with just scenes of them staring at each other. Their eyes always seem to tell something more, sometimes the opposite of what they are saying. They’re perfect for two  characters who carry so much history between them. The way that they seem to be dancing around a very thin line, that one careless move will cause the other one to just fall over to the other side. That’s the kind of tension they have.

Ohm and Love as siblings the best!

I also really like the chemistry of each respective gangs. They are all believable as friends and they are easy to watch.

The vibe of the show feels nostalgic in terms of visuals, but especially because of the music scoring which takes on an 80s / 90s feel.

The veteran actors playing the role of parents are also spot on because they also have a big part in the story, especially when Pat and Pran starts acting on their romantic feelings. (Not to be that person, but I am excited to get to the family angsty parts hehe)

So far, #BadBuddySeries is a show that I just want to unfold before my eyes. I just want to be strung along because I know that it will take me somewhere. It has an assured direction so it’s a series that you can trust, I feel. (Kudos to P’Aof!)

And as much as I am looking forward to PatPran being boyfriends, I don’t mind the show taking its sweet time to get there.
