This lesson pack includes 15 essential double stop licks that uses not only the mixolydian, major, and minor pentatonic scales to make awesome blues rock phrases. The packs starts with easier licks that gradually increase in difficulty. Video examples for each lick fast and slow, Backing Track, tablature and notation pdf, scale charts for all of these scales, and a GUITAR PRO FILE INCLUDED!
These licks are setup to give you many of the different approaches used to make awesome double stops, using all four scale types, minor pentatonic, major pentatonic, the blues, and the mixolydian scale. This approach will help you learn how to find the distinctions between each scale type and how they can be used together over a A7 chord. The backing track I made is all just A7 as well, that way you can practice this without having to worry about chord changes and really get the sound and the feel of this type of playing in your ears and under your hands. There is also two backing tracks, one at 100bpm, and a slower tempo of 80bpm. Practicing scales, licks and phrases this way is really great for building your speed, accuracy, and overall technique.
Use the backing track to learn, and apply the different scale types. If you need work learning the patterns, you can work each scale with quarter, eighth, triplets, sixteenths, and sixteenth note triplets. Then do the same with each lick example, practice the licks back to back as you get better at them.
For the final step start mixing the licks in with your phrases and ideas to maximize how much you take away from this lesson pack!
As a guitarist, why would you bother to learn other guitarists licks? What could you gain from it? Shouldn’t you just work at making your own? If one of your purposes for picking up the guitar in the first place was to have an instrument to communicate with, you’re going to need to spend time learning the languages.
In this exercise we are working on eight licks that are not only very useful, but also quite common. There are a ton of important techniques here, oblique bends/double stops, rolling rock/blues ideas, quarter, half, whole step bends, sliding sixths, mixing major/minor pentatonic.
