“deal. i like them, too.” she smiled, though it slipped away quickly enough as he began to explain himself. she hummed and shoved her hands into her pockets. had sera ever been able to define okay? she didn’t think she’d ever experienced it, not in full. “i mean - even if the thing with margot had something to do with what italy -” what giovanni, but sera didn’t want to face that “-is doing now, it’s - you’re still doing it for portugal, right?” sera had done arrangement-related mental gymnastics enough to know exactly how to justify them. “well, i mean, i’m perpetually fucking things up, but i’m still here.” she smiled at him, hoping the joke might help somehow. she wrinkled her nose. “no, don’t - that’s so weird, don’t even joke about marrying my sister.” she pushed that thought out of mind as soon as possible, moving on to something else instead. “so… you and arabella -” was that her name? sera hoped to god she wasn’t confusing her with someone else. “- is there still… anything there? did you break it off just in the name of the engagement, or…?”
“i don’t know, not anymore.” there’s a sign of defeat behind his words, his shoulder falling with a shrug. “at first, yes, i thought i was doing this because it would be something that i could help my father after the entire stupid thing of wanting to give my tittle up but then, of course, i found out it was barbara’s idea and now i have no idea in how this marriage plays out in the long run.” and judging by his last access of anger, bursting out of barbara’s room as fast as he came in, with not giving much of a chance to a proper explanation. “it’s complicated with us.” he reveals, although it was the only way gabriel could describe this current situation, it was also how he would always describe his situation when it came to the austrian princess — much of why he rather share only a few details of his relationship. “we haven’t spoken since the news of austria siding with spain and s switzerland against the actions of italy but — “ a few more steps into whatever direction they were supposed to take, gabriel sighs before speak. "we kissed at nye’s party but we didn’t say anything, it was my fault really. i kissed her and left, then — i slept with margot."
* LOUISE. / INTERACTIONS !:
❝ While Beau is busy, would you be a dear and tell me all about the scandalous and funny things that happen in this place ? ❞ ( @princexgabriel )
“beau is busy? i hope it’s something official because if not and he did not take me, we’re going to have some troubles when he comes home.” gabriel arches a brow, although it’s most dramatic and he is sure the prince has it’s the reason, a little joke to lighten the conversation wouldn’t hurt. “funny? i don’t know, but scandalous? i’m sure you are aware that you’re cousin has receive some unexpected visitors at her door.”
“i had lunch with your fiancée the other day- ha!” she had to stop as a whoop of laughter escaped her lips. ariel could be quite childish when it came to her brothers, biel being married seemed as far away as ever! almost far enough for her to ignore if not for the glaring fact that said fiancée had been brought along for a family trip. “she’s so smart, and so fucking nice! my god, i hope you’re being kind to her.” a wriggle of her eyebrows, eyes bright and expectant. “it looked like you two are getting along.” ( @princexgabriel )
“yes, she is amazing.” and that was one of the truths gabriel was never going to be able to hide, margot was, indeed, all of the things ariel describes and more. the almost childish behavior and the burst of laughter that emanates from his sisters are yet, not enough to make a change in his mood as usually does, as gabriel can almost be just like her. he could blame on the sleepless night or the tickle of worry in the back of his mind that is giving him a constant headache, but still, he tries to smile. “we are and why is everyone not assuming that i’m anything but nice to her. i’m a decent guy, you know.”
❛ they haven’t , ❜ ale agrees through a slightly nervous chuckle . they had only just about convinced the security that they weren’t doing anything too misleading , & their plan
their reckless & incredibly idiotic plan is the opposite of what they promised . ❛ how about instead of doing that , we put rat traps all over giovanni’s floor & record him hop & skip around them . his feet would be FINE , right ? we might not even get kicked out of the hotel for it . ❜
gabriel tilts his head to the side, his lips curving down before his features light up at the new scenario is presented ahead ’ yeah, he should be fine ’ he thinks ‘as long as he is wearing at least a pair of sandals ’ when he is finished pondering his internal dialogue, another idea pops into his mind. “how many traps can we get in the next ten minutes?” he asks, already pulling his phone off to search for the nearest warehouse. “we should put some in leonardo’s room, too. if i’m not getting the fireworks, this is the best second thing. we cannot get kicked out of the family for such a thing.”

leaving his room did not seem to be notoriously often as before, gabriel much rather enjoy the indoor with the control of his own company and the ones he allows in than to risk to bump into undesire figures. however, this walk down his cousin’s suit was one he felt the needed to do. “i think i owe you an apology.”
when she wakes up, slowly, she thinks that perhaps there might be two suns before her; one, shining through the window, and another waking her up so rudely from a dream. there was a sense of finality to the act the night before, like having awoken to sweet normality. the mundane act was refreshingly unsurprising. while it ached in places she wished it wouldn’t, it wasn’t incapacitating in the least. “oh,” was let out in soft surprise. the hand by her face wasn’t a dream, after all. “er… just normal toast. and some tea.” she tries to sit up, unconcerned now about being seen. she should be more afraid than this. her mother and catherine would be disappointed; catherine, most of all, having advised her to keep her distance, in the way she did. instead, margot reaches out to touch his shoulder in an apology she swallows, knowing how it must get frustrating to keep hearing them. “did i hurt you when i…? – it just…– it surprised me a little, that’s all. i wasn’t sure how i expected it to feel like…”
before her eyes are fully open and gabriel is surprised by the normality in which she responds to his touch, the hand reaching for his shoulder. there’s a moment when a smidge of fear flickers. one he cannot avoid coming rushing through his mind, a sensation underneath his skin that there’s something wrong in the simple act in leaning in to press a kiss in her lips, but he does anyway and let it lingers a second before pulling away — whatever complications, can be deal later. “you? hurting me?” he asks, a brow arching in curiosity as he reaches for the phone, not saving to request for a full breakfast and a fill aspirins. “i hope a good surprise and i think i should be the one asking those type of questions, just my head is currently killing me.”
sera shot him a playfully suspicious look out of the corner of her eye, humming but offering no other form of reply. at the question, she shrugged. “we’ve all been busy.” as if that could excuse it. sera had always prided herself on putting her family over everything, yet that had fallen to the wayside as of late. she listened intently as he spoke. at first, it seemed alright; he’d moved on from the austrian princess suspiciously quickly ( which was for the best, perhaps, given recent news ), but he spoke highly enough of margot. it was a burgeoning relationship, sera thought; she could hardly expect sonnets out of gabriel so soon. the word but, though, had her grimacing, and the next words nearly stopped her in her tracks. she wrinkled her nose at the revelation. “ew,” she said, before she could stop herself. “are you… okay with that?”
“i suppose, but let’s not make a habit out of it. deal? i kinda like our conversations.” he nudged to the her side with his elbow and flashes what he managed to pass as a smile, but even if it and the playful gesture did not pass her the assurance of his words, gabriel could only hope the years since birthday they have share could help him. the savoys had this extremely annoying thing of keeping the family close, and for the most part, gabriel believed they enjoyed and pride themselves for doing so. but as the conversation changed topics, again. he lets out a long sigh. “define okay” it was a question nearly impossible to answer with the bitter taste of recent events still at the tip of his tongue. life was easier at the previous twenty-four when he could still plan the next curve, the headlights still reach ahead to give him just enough glimpse of hope just enough to have something to hold on to — but the lights seemed to weaken by the second. “i was okay when i thought this was a doing for something else, maybe a greater good but recent turns may have got me rethinking and the realization that i may have fucked up a lot of things. it sucks and — i don’t know. are we sure isn’t there any way that i can marry your sister instead?”
“ now why would i get portugal involved if we’re not the one being directly attacked ? that’s just stupidly putting a target on our backs. but if you really want people to know i’m involved go right ahead. make a public announcement, i’ll call a press conference if you’d like. ” to say she hid behind italy or gio was, in the least, hilarious but barbie refrained from even giggling when her brother seemed to be in such a sensitive moment. “ i did it. ” she had debated telling him from the beginning but seeing how well it was going barbie didn’t feel the need to. not until now. “ father only made it official. if you want to be angry at someone, that should not be him. ”
it was much more clear now than it was when the situation presented himself, but what made it worse was that it wasn’t for the idea planted, the turn of events for his love life could have been different or not. walk away, just walk away. he repeated internally, but his consciousness wasn’t fast enough and the words just left past his lips before gabriel could prevent them again. “good but it doesn’t make much of difference now” because he was, at least she gave him a target, it made it easier. the avalanche of feelings that came crashing down on him, almost to point of suffocation, and left him uncertain of what was the next right thing to do. instead, lead blindly by anger, standing in front of his sister like that. “i thought this was something i could have done to help him, to help our country and is just another of our ideas whisper in his ear and that he just taken and now i’m stuck. so thank you.” he speaks, his voice a lower pitch than before and even calmer. “i’m done, with both of you. just… i’m done.”
“ if you want to break a chain you must start with the weak link, it’s only logical. ” but it was only at that question that she realised he wasn’t mad at the action per se but who it affected and that thought made barbara sigh. “ you didn’t plan on getting back with this girl, did you ? biel, margot is such a good pick for you. you two are getting along so well as i always knew you would. why get stuck in the past ? ”
“and for how long do you plan on hiding behind giovanni and the italian army before doing something yourself? when is clear that we are next if they do realize there’s your finger or hands all over it.” the words were out before he could rethink or even process them, but it was too late to take them back because what came next stopped gabriel mid his sentence. “because is not the pa - ” and that’s when he gets it. ‘as i always knew’ “wait - did you?” he doesn’t even have to finish the question. next thing, gabriel pushes himself up, running a hand through his face with a cynical smile appearing across his lips. “of course, you knew! because you always do, right? you always fucking know everything and never bother to ask, anyone’s opinion doesn’t matter unless is almighty daddy. how long did you get to convince to listen to you?”
“fine by me,” she said, rising off the couch and checking her own pockets for her phone. it would be good for both of them to get out of the hotel, and maybe ditching responsibilities for old time’s sake was just what they needed. she waited until they’d made it out of the lobby and onto the street to turn the conversation back towards its original topic. she was walking absentmindedly in the direction of the restaurant alina recommended. “so really. are you, like, some kind of casanova now, or something? margot is my friend, you know. i mean, she’s not, like, my best friend or anything, but i care about her.”
he could only laugh, after a few moments of walking in silence, at the parallel made. gabriel wasn’t sure of the definition of a casanova, but he wasn’t going to go over his head (this time) and claim himself the title. “no, i don’t think so” he replies, shaking his head side to side as he continues to walk side to side, following serafina’s direction. it must really have been some time since their last conversation, he thought, looking over at her before he could continue to speak. “it really has been some time since we spoke, huh?” he doesn’t need an answer to continue and just does so. “margot is great, she can be too much in her own head sometimes or trying to act as, i think, people expect of her but she is brilliant and i quite enjoy her company but - we are not, together, together.” the last words spoken in whisper tone just out of cautions. “it’s a betrothal."
❛ look , i’m not saying that it’s safe , but there’s one thing that overshadows that , ❜ he holds up a hand , as if to emphasise his point . ❛ it’ll be fun . also reckless , but that’s the whole point . ❜
“ when did any of those things has ever stopped us before? ” open arms, carefree to wether this was bad or not. they would go for it. there’s no stopping unless unleashed a holy trinity on them ─ and they were formed by women. the mother, the grandmother, and an aunt or anyone else available. “ but just to be ‘ safe ’ we can put the fireworks on the balconys instead of the smelling noise bombs on the bathrooms.”
“ i think i made it very clear that what i was interested in was knowing her motives and being sure she wasn’t going against italy for some sort of revenge on you. ” her feet take her back to the sofa she had been sitting on before gabriel banged on the door and barbara calmly makes herself comfortable. “ this is merely one’s action getting a reaction. physics and all that jazz. ”
barbara’s calmly only made it worse, the vein on his neck was protruding and pulsing strong with the blood boil underneath. there was no apparent reason for his reaction, not one he could say out loud but this felt like a betrayal. gabriel could not only point from who. “why go for austria?” he asked, hands moving in the air as he sits across her leaning closer. “if this has spain or better, isabella, written all over.”
she shrugged. good enough. “yes, please! i’ve barely seen anyone lately, i’m horribly lonely.” the stubborn italian mom posture melted and she moved to sit down on the couch. she shrugged. “ordering in might be easier, but it’s up to you. alina told me about a restaurant nearby that i’ve been thinking about trying.” she’d interrogate him more once they decided on lunch, she figured.
it needed time and an understanding of the italian women in the family to know how to act when they came crashing like sera did, because most of the time was out of love even when a lecture was unsure to happen. “nah, we are going out” he states, already collecting his wallet and phone. “i can’t stand one more minute inside this room or this hotel, so for old times sakes, let’s pretend this is a run out from whatever assignment we had to delivery and just decided to skip and have a bear in the nearest bar.”

gabriel barely even blinks as his sister materializes in front of him when he steps inside her suite unannounced. if the situation was any different, he would not dare to do such thing.“is this why you were so interested in my love life?” his voice is raw, harsh almost as if it’s trap inside his throat and is fighting its way out.

there was not a word to describe the portuguese reaction to the news that pop into his phone and made gabriel stand still for a second or two, maybe a combination of them but he wasn’t prepared to unleash them until he heard the full version. “what’s your plan with this?” blue sky hues in a hyperfocused latch on the other as he placed his phone onto the table.

the ache that hit his entire body as he rolled on the bed to turn off the alarm of his phone, could only mean one thing, gabriel has gone past his limit and a hangover was now a reality. it’s almost impossible to open his eyes, even the small beans of light that finds its way past the curtains of his room makes his eyesight hurt and sends a shiver of pain to the back of his head ─ happy fucking new year. at least, this could only mean that last night was a good one, but as the memories starts to play on his mind as his eyes flickers open to catch a vision of the person laying next to him. “shit” he thinks, rolling off from his side of the bed to catch the white shirt from the ground. it wasn’t a sight to be hated when the beans of lights start to invade more of the quietude of the room, and illuminates the traces of woman lying in there, but this wasn’t just another one night stand where he could just walk away and not looking back.
“hi - “ a softened syllable falls through his husky voice as gabriel moves the falling hair from her face. “i’m going to order breakfast, any special requests?”
“so, what’s this i hear about you and margot stuart?” she’d more or less burst into his hotel room looking for answers, and was standing in front of him now with her arms crossed and her chin tilted up. “i thought you were banging the austrian, now you’ve moved on to one of the scots… don’t tell me you’re trying to become leonardo.”
“ — i’m not?” the features on his expression turn to show the reflection of his surprise and confusion as he replies, instinctively, but still uncertain if that was the right words to his cousin’s question. “i think it has been a minute since the last time you and i had a conversation, there are a few things in which you need to catch upon on. so, should we order in or go out?”

“ can antonietta make the bit over a hundred politicians in here forget what they saw and heard ? because that’s the real fucking problem. ” the media was an easily manipulative thing: anything could be labeled as gossip if proof simply disappeared which was something their pr team was very good at doing. now there was no measure strong enough to prevent anyone that had just witnessed the fight from talking. “ what i need you, all of you, to do is think before you bloody act. ” she sighs, trying to control herself. her voice had raised a bit, it wasn’t good. “ i’m close to having a heart attack, i swear to fuck. ”
did he want to say something back? sure. was he going to? no. at this point, gabriel just crossed his arms and left his sister unleashed whatever she wanted upon him, it was the best way out and the reason he steps into it in the first place. he doubted this was such a big deal anyway, the party was far to be over and anything else could top the little argument caused by the blondes. so he stood there, arms crossed above his chest, and let her talk and she was over, he took a deep breath before speak again. “alright, okay.” he agrees. “should we get back inside or do you want a minute?”
