A vertical forest is expected to be completed this year in Milan. There are two tower apartment complexes which contain a total of 400 residential units. The facade of the buildings will be covered with 730 trees, 5,000 shrubs, and 11,000 perennial plants. It is expected to have the same ecological impact as 10,000 square meters of forest.
Aside from fighting smog and producing oxygen, the foliage is expected to provide insulation to the residential units.

It’s such a shame that so many people forget that the -punk suffix on cyberpunk and solarpunk referred to anarchism and/or anti-capitalism and it’s not just, like, -stuck but for alternate history

nature has no ‘agenda’, but I’m assuming you’re implying I’m one of those ‘humans are the REAL virus’ types? I’m not. that’s eco-fascism and I don’t participate in or respect that political leaning. mowed lawns simply look ugly? my dad refuses to not mow his lawn which is a shame because the house is built in a field so there’s so much wasted potential! the garden was left alone for 4+ weeks once because of a long holiday plus the time it was left alone before and some wildflowers had the chance to return. the garden has NEVER looked better. ecofriendly point of view aside, life looks so much better than absolute nothingness. these nothing lawns were promoted by rich people who had the extra time to weed their lawns when peasant folk did not and we continue the tradition to this day. not only is it bad for the environment but it’s ugly as shit! you can disagree on the aesthetics of it, but that’s just my personal opinion

Actually you know what. Just don’t mow. Get rid of your lawnmower. Turn your whole yard into a wildflower field or an edible garden. Lawns are the invention of the upper class to show wealth through wasted plots of grass that is meticulously tended for no reason other than to be grass. It’s literally an empty plot of land they kept because they had so much money they didn’t need it to grow food. Not using a yard as just a yard is an act of rebellion.
One of the main industries still supporting lawns is chemical pest control companies, and they’re also responsible for the insecticides that crashed the bird populations in the 40s and 50s as well as a lot of what’s killing bees and butterflies now. The herbicides they produce specifically targets “bad” plants like dandelions, buttercups, and clovers, which are plants bees rely on for early spring feeding. Grass is just grass; it would be great for feeding small mammals if people would let it grow more than three inches, but they won’t.
So, yeah. Kill lawnmower culture. Plant some native flowers. Grow some vegetables and fruit trees. Put out bird feeders and bee sugar spots and homes for both. Be kind to bugs and birds and rabbits and opossums and whoever else might wander by. Make your neighborhood a lot more beautiful.

Resources for Mending Clothes
Tumblr media
We toss out over 80 pounds of textiles each year. These textiles are often made of plastic materials (polyester, nylon), made in unethical conditions, dyed with harsh dyes that often get put into the rivers, etc. Even a single cotton shirt releases carbon emissions and uses tons of water.
So the best thing to prevent the unsustainable growth of the fashion industry is to make sure that your clothing lasts as long as possible. To do so, mending clothing is a must. So here are some resources to help you learn how to do various things, such as sewing a button, to tailoring clothes, or even upcycling old clothing into new styles.
* How to sew on three different types of button
* How to hand sew on a patch on a torn pair of jeans
* How to sew up a hole in an old shirt
* How to sew a simple T-shirt
* How to upcycle old clothing into new clothing
* More upcycle and sewing techniques
* How to repair a damaged sock
* How to do an invisible stitch
* 3 different stitches to work with for different results
* How to make a T-shirt smaller so it fits you better
* How to make repairs to your shoes
These are just a few of the things that you can do in order to make sure that your clothing lasts for a long time. Nobody wants to keep buying new clothing, as it is expensive and wasteful.
So making alterations to your clothing, or fixing small holes hen you see them can be hugely beneficial to your wallet, to garment workers, and to the environment in the long term.

If you like what I write, consider buying from:
My Etsy shop for upcycled bags, jewelry, and crafting supplies.
Or
My poshmark for reclaimed clothing.

Being green on a budget.
🌱carpool with coworkers/classmates- costs less in gas and reduces number of vehicles on the road
🌱buy sauces in glass jars- these jars can easily be rescued as cups or something to store lunches in or even to start growing plants in
🌱ripped Jean's? Turn them into shorts and use the extra fabric to make a bag.
🌱keep the blinds closed if you're not at home during the day. This will help keep it cooler. Also focus on cooling one room rather than the entire home.
🌱try walking to more places if you live in the city
🌱ask your parents to buy more veggies and veggie snacks if you still live with them.
🌱save up and buy a veggie plant that can grow indoors or outdoors like herbs or tomatoes
🌱when cooking fatty meats liel bacon, save the grease. This can be used later instead of butter or oil.

Ok but you guys need to consider this
COSTAL seapunk, with buildings being in harmony with the seaside and having the sea, sea gulls and aquatic animals fitting heavily into the architecture. Water organs and things like that Ocean organ thing.
Cities floating on seas, oceans and large lakes. UNDERWATER cities with underwater agriculture.
But more importantly floATING Solarpunk cities people have built to give the land a chance to heal, but is covered w plants and has bird and cloud motifs all over the shop

A few aggressive solarpunk/cottage core propositions
- planting native plants in medians
- planting native tree saplings in any large fields you find
- carrying seeds on you to plant wherever
- working with your neighbors and local communities on any disaster recovery efforts, sharing tools/supplies rather than buying more than necessary
- if your city has a lot of creeks, streams, rivers, or general bodies of water, host water days where you spend the day on the water cleaning!
