(OOC) hey how are you doing? you taking care of yourself?
ooc: short answer, yes!
I’ve actually been doing a lot of research and looking into my mental health lately, so I haven’t had a ton of extra energy for this blog. I keep it open all day every day and watch what people are posting, sending me, but I don’t have the energy to write up posts immediately right now because I’m devoting so much of that energy to trying to keep everything functioning and working smoothly.
Also, I’ve recently become captain of a minor eSports team, so the extra leftover energy i’d normally put into here, I’ve been having to throw at that, to try and make sure my team is functioning and I have all the players I need and what not.
Basically, I’m doing okay! Just a lot of outside stuff happening one after another that’s been keeping me away from the blog for more than a few posts at a time.

Yes this is just a question for Pokémon behavior is it normal to see a water type trying to mimic a fire type because my sobble is trying to mimic my infernape’s flame charge and I’m starting to get concerned for their safety
Hmm, well... It’s uncommon, but not abnormal, I’d say. If it becomes an obsession, it can become a problem, or indicate an issue. But if they’re just mimicking it, then I’d say it’s probably fine. If you’re worried, you can always take them to the PokeCenter and get a second opinion, of course!
But if you’re worried for their safety... Well, there are a few things you could do.
Option number one is that you convince Sobble to stop, or get Infernape to not practice Flame Charge around your Sobble. This can be a bit of a rough thing to do, and doesn’t always work, but usually you can work something out.
Option number two is to let it continue, but supervise them! You can give your Sobble an Item to hold that keeps it safer from Fire Type moves, and keep potions and fire extinguishers on hand, for example! You can have a chat with both Pokemon about being safe, even.
The thing to remember is that while its rather rare, Sobble can actually learn Fire Type moves! It can be Variant related, but it is also sometimes just... Possible for them to learn. This can be because they had a Fire Type relative somewhere in the past, but it also can be completely unrelated to that.
Most Pokemon can learn all move Types, though its seldom that they will. Obvious exceptions being some Flying Type moves, though I’ve heard some ways around that for particularly determined trainers and their Pokemon. Just because its rather rare doesn’t mean its completely impossible. Fire Type Pokemon generally avoid Water Type moves due to fear, but its not impossible for them to learn! They’re just predisposed towards other Types, and so very few even have the interest to learn them. In fact, most Pokemon that are asked to learn a Move outside of what they’re comfortable with will flat out refuse, which is why so many people think its impossible.
Your Sobble very well may be able to learn Flame Charge! It’s also possible that they may learn a Water or similar Type move that mimics Flame Charge! You can prevent it, if you wanted, or you can encourage it and just make sure they’re safe. There’s benefits to each option, and I can’t tell you which choice to make. You know your Pokemon the best, after all.
But, to answer you in a tldr; Its rare, but not abnormal. As long as everyone is being safe, there’s no issue.

So professor bramble hypothetically speaking what would happen if someone were to I don’t know give a bunch of sugar cubes to a rowlet and let them loose on ones enemy by accident what would more then likely happen.......
I… I don’t like the phrasing here.
But as there’s no Rowlet in my Lab causing chaos and mayhem, I’m going to pretend I trust you. I hope that my Lab continues to stay Rowlet free.
Now. It should be noted that because Rowlet stores energy during the day, I’d assume that this accident might happen during the night. In which case, the Rowlet would have an excess of energy… Oh, about three minutes past eating the sugar cubes? They’re small and process food energy rather quickly, after all.
A thing to remember here is that while many people think sugar makes you hyper, it doesn’t, it simply gives you immediate energy, unlike protein, which takes longer to break down and thus gives you energy throughout the day. In some Pokemon, however, they break sugars down so quickly it can actually seem like its making them hyper! So while the process is different between a ‘sugar high’ and what you might think of when I say sugar high, it would be functionally the same. A quick, sudden burst of hyperactivity, followed by the normal energy usage the Pokemon might normally go through. Generally this could mean anything from using Moves at random to use up its excess energy, to spending the entire time very focused on grooming its feathers.
If we were to talk about things you should absolutely not feed a Rowlet, for fear of a longer amount of hyperactivity… There are actually some Bug flavored treats out there, and a good number of them are specifically targeted towards Trainers who need that extra bit of energy, or are going long distances with their Pokemon. Think energy bars!
There’s a certain brand I personally would avoid because of how hyped they can make Pokemon, unless you plan on doing something intensive, called Mach Bars. They were created to help Fighting Type Trainers have intensive workouts with their Pokemon buddies, and have a good mix of easy and hard to digest energy sources.
Again, I certainly do not recommend any of that, as you’d likely have a Rowlet flapping about and causing chaos for a good 5-6 hours before it tired itself out, and would be a nightmare to catch.

Hi there! I'm wondering if there is any good ghost type starters to take care of? I've got a Gengar, but he was given to me as a present, and I want to take care of one from the start. Also, is there anything to help my Gengar with his anxiety?
That depends on you, I think! The Gastly line is often saved for people who know a bit more about Pokemon, but then again, most Ghost Pokemon are. Personally, if someone is willing to put in the effort, I don’t see why their first Pokemon couldn’t be a Gastly, or even something only for ‘experienced’ trainers, like a rare Roselia.
But that’s beside the point, sorry. You said you were looking for decent Ghost Type starting Pokemon to raise along with your Gengar, right?
Right away my mind goes to the Drifloon line. They’re relatively gentle and don’t need much extra handling, though obviously you still have to train them. Rotom are also a decent start; Almost everyone has one now with RotomPhones and the like anyways!
But you said you wanted to try caring for one from the start, and have already gotten a Gengar! So I think we can try something that’s a bit more difficult, no?
Litwick is a good middle ground, I think, as well as Phantump, or Pumpkaboo. They all are rather childish and will allow you to really understand young Ghost-Type Pokemon’s needs, without making it unnecessarily difficult on you. They’re still mischievous as most Ghost Type Pokemon, but tend to have a bit softer personalities, meaning you’ll likely have to be rather gentle with them, like you may a child.
Sinistea is also a fun one, if you like doing calmer activities with your Pokemon. Or, if you prefer something more active, the Dreepy line may be more your type!
As for anxiety, that really depends on what your Gengar is anxious over! If its general anxiety, I’d look into finding a local Ghost Trainer who may be able to help evaluate what’s going on! Some Pokemon are just a bit more Nervous than others, while some may need medication due to their anxiety. And then others are anxious because of something in their life. A good Specialized Trainer will be able to help you figure out what’s going on and what the next course of action should be! Just be careful; there are scam artists out there who will act like they fixed the issue while secretly making it worse, and this can cause your Pokemon to change into resenting you, or even become ‘Shadow Pokemon’ if it gets bad enough. So definitely vet whoever you ask to help you, and don’t do anything you’re not sure about without a second or even third opinion!

Professor did you go on a pokemon quest like oak and became the champoin?
Haha, no no. I did go on a Pokemon quest! I traveled around quite a bit during it, and still have badges from all the Gyms I managed to beat. But becoming a Champion... It never felt like the right time to go that far, you know? Champions have so much work they have to do behind the scenes, and so many public appearances, and I would have had to work extremely hard to get my Pokemon up to the point where we could even put up a fight... I ended up putting it off and saying that I’d do it in the next Region, or the one after that.
Now I can’t battle anymore and missed my chance, but I no longer view that as a bad thing! There’s so many ways to contribute to Pokemon and the world we all share together than just becoming a Champion, I think!
Honestly, thinking back now, I think this is where I was meant to be all along. I doubt I would have been very happy as a Champion, with all the public outings and pressure to keep myself at the top each battle. I would’ve worn myself out and been miserable, and who knows where I would have ended up. Or I wouldn’t have made it and been mad at myself for failing each time!
I still have my Badges, and I’ve met more Champions from traveling and doing research as a Professor than I think I ever would have had I done the challenge myself!

Dear professor have you ever been pranked by a Pokémon?
Oh, all the time! My Rotom likes pranking me quite a bit, as does my Flareon Wander, and the baby Pokemon we take care of, but I think most Pokemon are down for a joke or two!
Just the other morning in fact, my Pumpkaboo scared me halfway across a room when he woke me up! In his defense, I don’t wake up well sometimes. In my defense, I don’t think being bitten by a fake Lycanroc mask is really the best way to go about waking me up either.

Hi professor! As a research student with a porygon partner, I was curious about your lab's rotom and how it deals with outside software. I know it isn't like porygon, where you download a program directly to it, but do rotom inhabiting computers ever show a predeliction for certain programs over others? I know lots of porygon have preferences for specific kinds of software and I'd like to know if rotom are similar.
Hmm, well, I think the biggest difference is that Rotom tend to be a bit mischievous. I’ve met a few that take their pranks too far, such as downloading malware, but most are more likely to pop out of their electronics and scare you, or vacuum up one of your socks on purpose!
The Rotom I have that helps run my Lab is mischievous too, of course, but knows how important our work is, so they, luckily, tend to keep any pranks for when we have excess time on our hands. For example, last week they played the same song on loop from different devices for hours! I was following that sound around for near an hour before I figured it out!
The upside, however, is that Rotom don’t really have much of a preference. I personally think this is because they work almost like an ‘upgrade’ to whatever electronic they’re currently possessing. Basically, they can bring certain programs over from one device to another, provided each device has the ability to use it! For example, the washing machine could potentially play music because it has a speaker, but couldn’t make a call to my phone.
We don’t often have to use outside software, and when we do, its generally created by a close friend of mine that gave me the Rotom to start with, so it’s a pretty smooth transition to new things, since they only really have to use one programmer’s style of work! When I do end up needing something else, however, like a new poketch or the like, I do try to talk to Rotom beforehand, and know what new criteria to look out for.
I don’t know if this expands onto all Rotom, but it does seem that mine tends to prefer fast technology to simple technology. They’d rather sort through piles of data and fix it up themselves with everything running quickly than have to sort through nothing and have things run slower.
The other nice thing is that once a Rotom learns a program, much like a Porygon, they tend to know it forever, unless something gets corrupted or they become ill and delete files. The difference here is that while Porygon you can directly download to, as you mentioned, Rotom need to possess something that already has that program and use it for a while to learn it! It’s not an issue for me since I rarely change my technology if I can avoid it, and use much the same programs, but I do know its why you can’t just send the Rotom in your phone to receive an upgrade; you have to directly put it into the device itself.

im working on a full pokedex rn. Rn i’ve started the bios for about 100 of them, give or take, and started drawing a few others. About 50 bios are fully completed, and I plan on finishing it at about 240, give or take a few. Not sure what I want to do when it comes to legendaries, so that might shrink the number down if I end up excluding those.
You may remember the tann regional riolu and perrserker from earlier posts, or ingeoprime and ankhull. Those were technically when I started working on this, though I didnt want to mention that it was a whole project until I was a bit further along.
Basically, if anyone has questions about the Tann Pokedex, feel free to send them in, because I’m finally getting to the point where I should be able to answer them soon! ((yes, this includes the regions ‘starter’ pokemon, questions about me being the regional professor, and anything else that might be up that alley.))
in the meantime, im still working on answering the 15 asks i have left, don’t worry! I just have a burst of inspiration for this particular project rn and I think i’ll be able to answer asks about this a bit easier.
That’s all, just an update on whats going on! I’ve a few pokemon i think you guys will really enjoy, though I’m not telling you anything else yet. :p

Bramble, my friend, I must tell you: the Riolu you sent me recently is amazing! He's so joyful and energetic, it completely changed the dynamic between everyone here! Everyone seems happier with him nearby! He also learns very fast! After a few days helping our group on rescue missions, he's already as skilled as my best hikers! The cold temperatures up here are constant, so he won't have any problems with heat illness or anything, but I'll keep contact if he starts acting strange, okay?
I’m so glad!
I had a feeling that he’d thrive with a bit more attention, and I’m glad that seems to be true!
Oh, that’s great that he’s been helpful with rescue missions though! And I’m extra glad he figured things out quickly; this variety does tend to be a bit naturally inclined towards that sort of thing, but I can’t help but worry sometimes. So its rather nice to know that he’s doing what he can and helping out, and there aren’t any big issues.
Please do keep in contact, especially if that happens! But even if it doesn’t, its always nice to get little updates like this, I think. Thank you so much for telling me how you guys are all doing!

Take care of yourself first professor. I’d hate for you to burn yourself out instead of giving yourself the time to rest when you needed it.
Oh gosh, thank you so much. I really am okay though! Just takes me a bit longer than some to work back up to things that are more intensive, like this blog.
I learned the hard way to be careful about getting burnt out, so I do take time to rest. Doesn’t mean I don’t feel a bit guilty about it, but I have a feeling I’ll be working on that one for a while yet!
I will be careful though, don’t worry! I’ve been doing better lately, after all.

You ok professor?
I’m so sorry, yes, I’m fine.
I had some not great news from my family back in Kalos recently, and had to put the Blog on hold for a bit to handle it, but everything is sorted out now! I’m just trying to catch up with everything I’ve missed in the meantime.
Thank you for checking on me though, love! I’ll be back in no time flat though, so don’t worry.

Sir bramble have you ever been to alola I heard they have the best places to study pokemon variants
I have, in fact! It’s a fantastic place to visit, though I had to spend most of my time surrounded by Ice Type Pokemon; many locations are quite a bit hotter than I’m used to, and it could have become a safety issue otherwise.
Their Variants are quite interesting as well, and while I wouldn’t say they have the best places to study them, they do have some of the best Research Centers regarding them! I learned quite a bit from them when I was there as a Trainer, and learned even more when I was able to contact them for the first time as an Assistant, and ask for more of their information! They’re truly one of the leading places to go if you want to learn about Pokemon Variants from a group of dedicated Scientists! Plus, their usage of Tradition and old tales to fill in the gaps is amazing, and has truly put us ahead years of where we’d be without that kind of thinking! I can’t imagine how much knowledge would be lost if they didn’t look into traditions and old tales in the context of history, and I think that’s an important thing to think about when it comes to talking about their research!
But yes, I have been to Alola, and I’m truly in awe of what they’ve managed to accomplish.

Mister bramble in your opinion what has to be the most important of taking care of Pokémon with status effect abilities that can effect other Pokémon
Knowledge! Absolutely knowledge.
Knowing how it works, if it requires a move for this Pokemon or if its a latent Ability, if its a danger or simply an inconvenience, how to heal the effect, how to care for a Pokemon who’s affected by it, how to train and keep the Pokemon who can do this Ability from accidentally using it, and knowing how to keep your Pokemon all safe, happy, and comfortable!
You can have a Pokemon who tends to Poison others via touch and a hundred Antidotes, but it’s much easier and cheaper in the long run to have that same Pokemon and perhaps clothe them, or feed them an alternate diet that lessens the Poison so it only affects during heightened emotions, like in a Battle.
Sometimes, this may mean that your Pokemon has to be on a Rotation schedule with the others, and can only come out when there are no other Pokemon about! Sometimes, its as simple as teaching them to control themselves, or addressing the issue directly, such as a Grounding Collar for a particularly Electric Jolteon.
Knowledge can help keep you and your Pokemon safe, and allows everyone to get along best without forming a grudge over any incidents, because it allows you to prevent incidents from happening!

Professor bramble in your official opinion as a pokemon professor what is the cutest Pokémon in the world
…Nobody is going to agree with me when I say Perrserker, and frankly that just shows that everyone except me is wrong about this.
But if we’re going with the generally accepted cutest, I suppose Wooloo or Pikachu would be the top contenders.

She hasn’t taken to any name in particular, that I know of at least! I’ve been calling her Hedge lately, after a small fright where I thought she was a bush, but she doesn’t appear overly attached to that either. I’m sure she’ll not mind a new name change!
And I’m glad you wanted a Grass Type, and I could help with that! I wish you two the best of luck.
Hello Professor! I'm a Pokemon photographer by trade and spend lots of my time traveling to different regions and climates. While out in the field I often loose large chunks of time due to my adhd and often don't realize how much time has passed until the lighting has changed. I would love a variant mon who can help keep me on schedule, while not disturbing or attracting a lot of attention from the wild Pokemon. I look forward to seeing if you have any pokes around that could join my team. Tysm!
Of course!
I’ll admit, this took a bit of thinking; partially because I was determined at first to find you an Eevee. They’re so adaptable, I figured that would yield the best match up.
However, none of the variant Eevee I have currently would work; they’re either too tense and vocal, so easygoing they wouldn’t help you with time, or have a high chase drive; that is to say, they’d scare off the Pokemon you’re trying to photograph!
After I realised this however, it hit me rather quickly that I actually have a Pokemon that would suit you just fine. Or, I think I do, anyways!
Tumblr media
Anyone who’s met a Skiddo knows, they’re easygoing, friendly Pokemon, who don’t require food provided they receive enough sunlight.
And anyone who’s owned a Skiddo knows, they’re also very in tune with their Trainers. They’ll learn a schedule within just a few days and stick to it, to the point of pushing you out the door; literally!
They’re a friendly, active Pokemon who enjoy being outdoors, and this one is no exception! Though she may be quieter than some of her counterparts, don’t take that to mean that she isn’t ready to go out there and play; she’s just a bit pickier about when, and with whom!
Her autumnal coloring is permanent, which would likely make her near invisible in forests and fields at any time of year, between the autumn leaves, and leaf litter on the ground year round. It might be a bit more difficult if you plan on going somewhere snowy, but I’ve found that she rather enjoys the cold weather as well, and likes to hide in snow banks. Just be careful you don’t lose her in one!
Her roses do fall off, and make an excellent tea. Her leaves, however, do need to be trimmed twice a year, though you can trim them as short as you want; just be sure to not remove them all, since she needs them to get nutrients from the sun. The good news? Her leaves are edible, much like Appletun’s shed ‘Crisps’, and make a nutritious snack if you forget to pack yourself a meal!
And some more good news; her previous owner spent a lot of time traveling with her, and got her registered in most of the larger open Regions. I’ll be sending the certification and card over alongside her. But this means you won’t have to go through any of those tedious processes before you two head off traveling.
I hope that you two enjoy eachother, and she helps to remind you to eat and keep a working schedule!

Here’s an interesting one for you. Starting Pokémon in Galar. There’s a much smaller number of Pokémon to be able to choose from after all.
I’m not quite sure if you mean the official Galar starter Pokemon, or what I personally would choose as a Starter Pokemon! So, I’ll try to answer both, to make sure you get your question answered!
Of the official Galar starters, I’ve always been partial to Scorbunny. I find them rather cute, and their personalities were always fantastic! My family’s old Scorbunny was a fantastic Pokemon, and we spent hours playing about on the edge of the Ballonlea woods! But, that’s just my personal preference. All of the Galar Starters are great Pokemon, as long as you choose one that suits you. That’s why they’re the official Starters, after all!
As for what I’d recommend... That depends on your personality as well! A Pokemon that I find easy to deal with will vary greatly from one you find easy to deal with. Between just my Colleagues and I, there’s such a varied amount of recommendations that someone could end up sending out three questions, and receive forty different answers! And that’s just within my personal bubble of Colleagues!
For example, are you active? Do you like running about and traveling? Then I shouldn’t recommend a Pokemon species that prefers to sit in one spot, or is a homebody! On the other hand, if you like staying in and reading all day and don’t much like running about, a Scorbunny like I mentioned above would be a nightmare for you!
I think Official Regional Starter Pokemon are great because they cover a good number of personalities, are easy to train, and are strong. They’ve been specifically bred that way on purpose, after all!
But some people do slip through the cracks because these Pokemon are so Generally easy, and that will happen no matter how you adjust it. So, I can’t rightly recommend a general Galarian Starter Pokemon! It’d just be wrong of me.
Though on that note, if I had to choose one to start over with from there for myself, I’d likely choose the Galar Zigzagoon, Wooloo, or Galar Meowth. Those are by far my favorite three to train from that Region.
