THIS IS HOW THE BEST BEAUTY BRANDS STAY ICE COOL
Differentiating your brand in a competitive market whilst staying true to your culture and values AND being original at the same time is tough work.
We are all looking for that special something to ignite passion and curiosity in new customers, whilst carefully maintaining loyalty and generating admiration with brand advocates.
So when the luxury beauty brand Aesop approached us and asked for help we knew what to do.
Aesop has just launched its new Pettigrain Reviving Body Gel, which is ideal for use after sun exposure, so it was essential to design a sculpture that communicated the soothing and calming properties of the product.
The solution was to expertly ‘freeze-in’ bottles of the body gel into a series of pure ice blocks to showcase the product in an elegant and interesting way, whilst also providing a visual reference to the desired effects of the ingredients in the product.
The ice sculpture was installed at Aesop Shoreditch, so you may have seen photos on social media or in real life if you’re a fan and visited the store recently. It really got people’s attention and suited the design of the retail outlets with its crisp, clear and minimalistic lines.
Freezing-In products in to ice is a fantastic promotional tool to get your product or brand noticed. As well as beauty products we’ve also frozen in all manner of things from designer handbags and shoes to books and expensive camera’s. There really isn’t much we can’t freeze – even Heidi Klum has been frozen in ice!

#MOETMOMENT
Glasses full of bubbles were fizzing and corks were popping and flying everywhere at the exclusive Radio rooftop bar at the ME Hotel on The Strand recently.
#MOETMOMENT and ‘Taste the Now’ are ingeniously headlining the promotion of Moët & Chandon’s Ice Impérial and Ice Impérial Rosé brands, launching their new global marketing campaign.
As the first and only rosé champagne especially created to be enjoyed on ice, we were commissioned to carve a very glamorous and contemporary champagne ice bucket, actually sculpted from ice itself, for the new champagne bottles to chill in. The bucket had two large handles on the side and we intricately carved Moët & Chandon’s key messages on the front.
Moët & Chandon were really pleased with what we achieved. They said “...just wanted to say a huge thank you for the ice sculptures, they looked fantastic! The gentleman that installed them was very helpful too, thank you.”
We were also asked to sculpt an elegant tree ice sculpture, perfectly reflecting the essence of the Belevedere Vodka brand, at the same event.
PLUS – that’s not all! We also worked on another exciting ice sculpting project for Moët & Chandon, again in London, but this time at the Madison Rooftop Bar near St Pauls.
Take a look at the gorgeous letter blocks above!

UNIQLO UNVEIL THE MOST FASHIONABLE ACCESSORY FOR COCKTAIL’S THIS YEAR
Uniqlo, the iconic Japanese clothing brand, recently re-opened the doors to its global flagship London store with a new campaign called ‘This Way to Utopia’.
The re-launch follows an extensive internal refurbishment at 311 Oxford Street, which includes two additional floors and a stunning new roof terrace. The bold retailer therefore needed an inventive way to capture the imagination and loyalty of VIP’s attending the launch party the night before the store officially opened.
We were approached by Uniqlo and quickly put to the test, tasked with creating a unique ice experience to complement a diverse programme of entertainment for guests at the event.
Our lead ice sculptor and co-founder of PSD Ice Art, Percy Salazar-Diaz, personally hand-carved over 50 Japanese ice balls on the night, as well as preparing an additional 300 ice balls before the party to take with him. Each ice ball was placed in a stylish Japanese inspired Sake cocktail at the pop-up bar in the store itself. The Japanese ice balls reflected the Uniqlo brand heritage brilliantly (being Japanese of course) but that’s not all. Percy also came to the rescue by carving diamond shapes and shards out of a block of ice whilst engaging a very intrigued crowd as he chiselled and chipped away – saving the bar staff who had unfortunately run out of ice.
The English grime artist Skepta, cultural ambassador for Uniqlo, bought down the house and entertained everyone in his own inimitable style, by rapping live on the central staircase in front of very happy fans at the party.
If you have an event coming up soon and need some inspiration please contact Nicky Salazar, PSD Ice Art email [email protected] or call 01342 835348 or if you want to know more about why Japanese Ice Balls last so long visit our cocktail ice page

YOUNG START UPS HAVE TALENT!
With the opportunity to win a life changing start-up fund worth £50,000, as well as access to professional mentoring and coaching from a panel of business experts, young entrepreneurs in the South East have been competing to win the coveted Young Start Up Talent Award. We are extremely proud to sponsor Young Start Up Talent, which is a community based initiative helping 16-25 year olds who have an entrepreneurial flair for business, to make their dreams a reality. The initiative works with over 100 local and national businesses, who all contribute to the products and services fund provided to the successful candidates, in each of the seven geographical areas currently covered. As sponsors we also provided two impressive full colour logo ice sculptures at the showcase events, held at both the Sea Life Centre in Brighton and The Lingfield Marriott Hotel. Our very own Nicky Salazar joined the judging panel, where the budding young entrepreneurs eagerly pitched their ideas and explained their business plans to get through to the final selection and go on to the showcase. The final five candidates then pitched to a subsequent judging panel - Dragon's Den Style! – which was filmed and broadcast at the showcase event, before the eventual winner was revealed. The standard was incredibly high and we were so impressed with all of the entrants. There were however, two very worthy and notable winners. For the Brighton and Hove area, a University of Sussex student won the award. Nick Musto is a 22 year old whose app ‘Radar’ is designed to allow students to save money on nights out. Winner of the Gatwick Diamond area was ‘Juby-Lee Bakes’, a group of seven autistic students led by Simon Tomlinson, who have set up their own bakery in Horsham with the tagline 'Special bakes by special people'. Their aim is to create incredible tasting food whilst inspiring other young adults like themselves. We are feeling incredibly inspired and will be following and supporting them as much a possible – definitely ones to watch. Tongues and lips at the ready – its vodka luge time!
Our talented team of ice sculptors were commissioned by fellow Gatwick Diamond Business Association member ‘Event by Event’, to create a unique ice sculpture for an exclusive event taking place in London recently.
Event by Event’s client, National Media, were proudly rejoicing the end of ‘dry January’ by opting to get straight back in to full-on party mode with what is infamously known as the ‘National Retox’.
We worked closely with Alice Wingate of Event by Event to create something spectacular that would befit such an evening, as well as entertaining and enlivening the guests who were bravely moving from detox to retox.
The result was the epitome of rock ‘n roll, brilliantly styled on the iconic tongue and lips of the Rolling Stones.  The National Media logo was the centre of attention, as the ice was cleverly lit up with a bright red lamp to accent the brand as well as the rock ‘n roll theming of the venue. Plus each pair of luscious lips also aptly doubled up as an ice luge for party revellers to drink vodka from.
Judging by the social media activity the following day, the luge left a lasting impression on the revellers. We think the ice sculpture will have definitely lasted longer than they did!
If you would like something similar to wow a crowd at your next event, please contact Nicky Salazar on 01342 835348 or email [email protected] for details or visit www.psdiceart.co.uk

Will you marry me?
It’s Valentine’s Day this month (as if you didn’t know!) AND it’s also a leap year making it doubly romantic - ladies, that’s if you intend to propose!
You’ll also notice that it’s the year we have the Brazilian Olympic games - maybe having it in a leap year helps everyone remember when they’re coming up - I don’t know!
Anyway back to Valentine’s and romance. Last year we were asked by a young man in love to produce an engagement ring in ice so that he could place the real thing on top and propose to his girlfriend at the Ice Bar in Central London.
Of course she said ‘Yes!’ I mean who could resist?
Adding further romance to the story their wedding is set for this 13th February, the Saturday before Valentine’s Day. No excuse for forgetting the anniversary then!
We’ve had a similar request again this year. But you don’t need to limit it to ice rings to create the perfect setting for a proposal - for example you could combine your initials in ice, present your other half with a bottle of bubbly in a chiller made of ice or flowers displayed in an ice vase. The possibilities are endless!

Meltdown: The science behind climate change
Following the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference to address global carbon emissions in Paris in December, Bloomberg Business approached us with a special request.
They needed their climate change video to have an instantly recognisable and intuitive visual reference to illustrate the key points made at the conference.
The solution was a replica of Earth, created as a perfect sphere of ice. It measured 50cm in diameter, weighed approximately 35kgs and took our creative team about 2 days to build from initial designs to the finish product. Bloomberg requested specific continents to be portrayed on the earth to tie in with the relevant headlines in the news report, so our sculptors carved the countries by hand, directly in the ice. They then partly filled them with snow so that they would show up beautifully on screen.
We delivered directly to the shoot location, whereby the production team slowly melted the ice to show the effects of climate change in action, and filmed the effects on the ice globe.  They only had one sculpture to work with, so once they had completed filming it in its perfect state, there was no going back, as the ice started to melt with dramatic effect.
A melting world is something we can all relate to and when shown so impressively it’s difficult not to be worried about the dramatic effect our actions place on the planet.
The video, which was filmed in November 2015, is well worth a watch just to see why the Paris conference was so important for our future. See our ice globe and hear what Bloomberg’s Tom Gibson has to say in this special report >>

ROCK AND ROLL AT THE EVENT AWARDS 2015! We were extremely proud to be chosen as a finalist in the Event Awards 2015 category 'The Ultimate Evenspiration'. The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday at the beautiful London Apollo in Hammersmith. It's a glamorous art deco venue and therefore perfect for a black tie event. So we dressed up in our finest and joined the elite of the UK's events industry for quite honestly the best night out we've had in ages!
We all work so hard and love what we do, so its a complete honour to be recognised....and although we didn't win, we had the most fabulous evening watching Steve Jones presenting the awards, eating and drinking incredible food from the spectacular Zafferano crew and meeting so many lovely people.
Well done to all the other finalists and of course huge congratulations to the amazing winners. Thank you to the Event Awards team for putting on a 'Rock and Roll' legendary evening!

THE TOP 5 THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED ABOUT ICE SCULPTING!
How long does it take to make my ice sculpture?
On average it takes 2-3 hours to make a sculpture, but the size and level of detail has an impact so it could take longer if it’s complicated. We freeze all our own blocks and these can take 4-6 days to freeze prior to carving.
How long will my sculpture last?
Sculptures last around 8 hours but this can vary depending on the size and shape. A small table decoration will last around 4 hours before the finer details start to fade and larger sculptures can last over 8 hours.
Can you freeze things in the ice?
Yes we can freeze things inside the ice like food, drinks or perfume bottles. Our recent projects include freezing a very expensive designer handbag and a Sony Coolpix camera!
What happens to the water when the ice melts?
Sculptures are supplied with a drip tray to collect the water. A pipe is attached to the back of the tray which drops down into a secondary collection tray.
Can you light up a sculpture?
Yes, we use LED lights which are safe to use with water and require no electrical supply. We also supply specialist light stands and equipment for larger sculptures.

The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in London celebrated its centenary this May.
To mark the special occasion we were commissioned by the school’s Chef de Cuisine, Nicolas Meunier, to create a stunning ice sculpture with the Lycée Français logo displayed in colour within the ice.
The 100 year anniversary took place from 20-22 May 2015 and included a full programme of events including plays, concerts and exhibitions.  A highlight of the three days of celebrations was a visit from Buckingham Palace no less – the Princess Royal, Princess Anne – who revealed a beautiful commemorative plaque to record the ‘centenaire’.
