@alexanders-pokemon-adventure if there is anything I can do to help young Alex, please let me know. I am afraid I have been away on a research trip in the Great Crater in Paldea and reception down there is .... Spotty to say the least.
Psychic probes can be VERY difficult if not done properly. They require a very skilled pokemon (The Ralts and Hatterene lines are particularly good at this) and very skilled communication between all parties involved. Humans and pokemon both. Verbal and non verbal speech both..
But most important of all is the bond between the trainer and their own pokemon. You mentioned Alex's Claydol? That line is known to be very prone to meditations and can appear to be in trances for days on end. But an existing bond between trainer and Pokemon is the best starting point. Amplified by a pokemon skilled in the technique needed.
Hope that helps!

Oh, no problem at all. I, myself have the thread ability i mentioned. My assistant, Cassie has what she describes as "precognitive nighttime prophecies regarding what may be". She can be a bit much at times but she has precognitive dreams with a decent level of accuracy. She works specifically with the Munna lines and the drowzee lines. Basically any sleep related pokemon.
In many cases, my staff seem to have abilities akin to their first partner pokemon they bonded to. We just hired a young man from Ballonlea in Galar named Henry who can read the emotions of people when alone but when he is with his Hatterene companion he can read pokemon emotions as well.
This topic is still being studied here but there are some among our staff who don't even use words to communicate with their pokemon. Whether or not thisbis psychic ability or not remains to be seen
I know this might be a little bit out of your depth but ,I’ve had a friend who is always exhibited “ abilities” like that of psychic type Pokémon since she was young. She even traveled to Kanto for a time to train with a know Esper Sabrina for a few months. But to this day she sometimes finds it difficult to focus or apply her abilities. Do you think perhaps introducing her to the tool some psychic type Pokémon use like spoons, or pearl , plates might help her more easily apply herself?
Oh. No worry at all! At the Institute we help the trainers as much as we help the pokemon. In fact, many of the staff, myself included have some degree of ability. Sabrina herself studied here for a bit when she was younger. In fact is was here where her first Abra evolved!
In terms of picking focusing items, it can be a very personal thing. Many psychic type pokemon are known to have rituals and ceremonies around their items. Hypno and Spoink in particular. One day, soon after i started my adventure with Sunny my Espeon. He had found a shiny little stone in the ground. Not thinking much of it, I picked it up and put it in my pocket. Suddenly i felt like I could see this silvery thread connecting me to Sunny. And i heard things too. In our next battle Sunny just seemed to "know" the commands i was going to give before I gave them! After some research i discovered that it was the stone! I know weae it in a pendant around my neck. The amount of times ot has helped me out here...
As for your friend. Walk with them. Talk with them. But whatever item they pick has to be on them. The energies focusing items give off can be very specific and need to tune to the trainer first. After the forst few days though anyone can handle it no issues.
Let me know if that helped!

Have you ever had a Pokémon use the move helping hand on yourself and for what?
We have a Meowstic here at the Institute named Claude who, once he learned Helping Hand would use it on anything. In battle in helps your allies but out of battle it acts however the pokemon wants it as long as it "helps" the target.
Claude has used Helping hand to get things off shelves, play keep away with the Slowbro and Slowpoke (though I don't think they noticed) and even one time to snap a Xatu out of its meditation. The Xatu was not happy. I think poor Claude still has beak marks from the resulting Peck attack...

Hello! I recently caught a Solosis, (who I nicknamed Chloro) so I was wondering if there are any certain things I should know about. Also, how do I train them to not leak protoplasm?
I am so sorry! I didn't see this ask! I apologize for the delay and hope little Chloro is doing well! Solosis and its whole evolutionary line are a lot more durable than most people think. Studies have shown that Solosis can survive temperatures as cold as the peak of Mt. Coronet to as hot and dry as Route 4 right outside Nimbasa City. As they get older, their brains actually split in two so they can be a challenge as they get close to evolution. Keep them occupied with many brain teasers and snacks.
Evolution can always be tricky. Especially with psychic types as evolution usually coincides with increased intelligence. Most members of the Solosis line are good at keeping their fluid inside, but accidents do happen. Its important to never make it seem like its their fault. Psychic types are VERY empathic and may pick up on more than you mean to. Redirect them onto something positive. A game... A new battle strategy.... Something to reassure them you're not mad.
Just be VERY careful with any of the fluid you find lying around as it can be EXTREMELY toxic. The worst it can do from a solosis is a minor rash but from a Reuniculus the rashes have been known to last months if not treated properly.
Stay safe and know that you are doing your best!

((OOC: i apologize for the lack of activity. Real life and lack of inspiration has been getting in the way. I will try to be better))
Chimecho absolutely adore having their "trunk" massaged. Most pokemon scientists are debating wether the dangling part of a Chimecho is more arm, foot ot tentacle. I have even read some papers that refer to it as a "feeler". For my own sanity I refer to it as a trunk as it functions very similarly to a Donphan or a Copperajah's trunk. Chimecho's trunk is actually believed to be among the most sensitive parts of any pokemon.

I just wanted to wish you all a happy Unovan Thanksgiving as I sit in my lab in Kanto eating reheated Tropius wings. No it's not actual wings, its the fruit from their necks wrapped around some leaves that fall off their backs. There was a ranch near where I grew up my dad ordered from. He overnighted some to me. Today I have a question for you. Feel free to leave a comment or an ask.
What traditions do you and your pokemon have around the holidays? My Alakazam, Xavier, always uses his spoons to make a special stew. He refuses to tell me where he gets the ingredients but it always tastes amazing and now i can't picture the holidays without it!

Girafarig LOVE head scratches and will do anything to get them. They are known to use their psychic powers to telekinetically swipe items to do so. I, personally, have found a large number of sticks, forks and on one occasion an Alolan Marowak's bone club. No idea where THAT came from!
Postscript: DO NOT PET THE HEAD ON A GIDAFARIG'S TAIL! THEY BITE! The worst bite next to the time i got on the wrong aide of a disgruntled Bruxish....

So, for today’s post, I figured I’d discuss The Crown Tundra recently opening up for travel. I had petitioned the Indigo League to fund an expedition to study Calyrex, which, if the legends are true is part psychic type. But the Indigo League is a bit reluctant to approve research into legendary pokemon after everything that happened with Team Rocket and Mewtwo. I mean that was over 20 years ago, you think they’d have moved on.... Anyway, I digress.
Perhaps if I discuss another legendary pokemon will sway the League in my favor. Latios and Latias are believed to be dragon/ psychic type pokemon. While most legendary pokemon are hard to study and get close to, Latios and Latias have been repported to actually find humans amusing. This seems to be similar to reports of Mew’s more mischevious behavior, though Mew is notoriously hard to track down. What I wouldn’t give to study it up close. Mewtwo as well, but I don’t have the insurance coverage...
.....
Sorry, I thought I heard giggling. Nevermind
Latios and Latias are reported to be extremely fast and very intelligent. I have also read reports that say their curiosity knows no limits. I read a story about a trainer from  Pallet Town who knew a Latias that changed shape. While most psychic type pokemon can perform minor illusions. Jynx in particular. The Jynx in the Institute are very protective of the Smoochum in their care and if you go to check up on them you may find yourself face to face with a very angry Beartic!
It would appear that Latios and Latias’s transformations are more complete though. Pokemon the various Leagues tend to classify as Legendary are known to be extremely rare and powerful.
Another theory is that Latios and Latias may be more related to bird pokemon than dragons due to their feathers and wings, but I would have to investigate more... if ever given the chance.

Hmm?

Pokemon Observation
One of the greatest questions posed to Pokemon researchers in recent years is why a Pikachu, when evolved and caught in Alola changes so drastically upon evolution. The running theory involves its diet (though NOT pancakes! I will never forgive them for allowing THAT entry into the pokedex system!). On my last visit to Alola, I noticed something very peculiar. Each island had small but very distinct differences in the fruits and vegetables available for the native pokemon go eat. A prime example of this is Oricorio and its form changes.
As many know, Oricorio's form and even its typing changes depending on the nectar it eats. We keep a flock of Oricorio here at the Institute and a modest stock of nectar. Though, shipping prices are starting to be prohibitive. My working theory is that it is not just the nectar that affects change in alola but the very islands themselves. I briefly studied the Z Crystals and local legends involving Lunala, Solgaleo and Necrozma and their ties to the Z Crystals.
Perhaps the Z Energy is so inherent in Alola itself that it seeps into the very people and pokemon there? Are Pichu native to the islands exposed to more Z Energy than Pichu in other regions? I believe the Z Energy builds up in body of the Pichu, then the Pikachu until it is exposed to the energy radiating from a Thunder Stone. The combined radiation from the Thunder Stone mixes with the built up Z Energy triggering the type change. Resulting in a (partially) psychic type Raichu.
Upon discussion with the Alolan Raichu (named Cake. His choice, NOT mine) at the Institute, he just smiled and hugged me. Further research is needed. Maybe I could petition the Indigo League to send me on a research trip to Alola? Can I write off Pinap Juice Cocktails as a business expense.....

Pokemon Focusing Item Lecture 3
Perhaps one of the most common questions I get is how do pokemon evolve WITH items. Ie. How does Kadabra spontaneously gain a spoon. Do Sawk and Throh just find perfectly fitted clothing in the wild? But most often I get is about the Drowzee line. More specifically: where does Hypno's pendulum come from?
While similar to the Abra line in that they both rely on external objects as focusing items, they are actually very different. When a Drowzee is about to evolve it will start expressing a desire to dig. In the wild, it is not an uncommon sight to find packs of Drowzee gathering around riverbeds feeling for stones with their trunks. When they find a particular stone that matches their desires (and appropriately enhances their psychic signature) they will grab it, polish it and spend days meditating with it. When the psychic frequency of the stone sufficiently enhances their own innate frequency, the evolution process will begin.
Once they have finished the evolution into Hypno, the stone will not have changed. It is crucial within the first hours after evolution that the new Hypno focus their psychic energies into the stone ro refine it into a pendulum. The stone will undergo its own evolution of sorts to become the pendulum.
Hypno in other areas will tend to use similar items. But it is important the item be crystalline or crystal like as those tend to work best as focusing items. Never pick a new pendulum out for your Hypno without consulting with it first. We have extra stones and similar items here at the institute if needed

Hello! I'm Professor Apple! I built and run the Psychic Pokemon Institute here in Saffron City. We specialize in psychic type pokemon and run classes frequently to help build the bond and strengthen the psychic bond.
Asks are open! I have yet to receive any so you may be the first!
Hi, I love your work! I'm looking for more content like yours. Do you know any other professors who also blog about their work that I could follow?
They come and go in passing, I can’t recall any off the top of my head, terrible with names and memory outside of work.
So!
CALLOUT POST FOR OTHER PROFESSORS. Pop what you do and where you’re located in the Pokemon world, let folks know you enjoy creating the same kind of content!
Least now you can follow anyone who adds to this, and find others who may handle species you’re more interested in, or need info on.

Pokemon Focusing Item Lecture 2
I previously mentioned the Abra line and the spoons they use as their focusing items. With some psychic type pokemon the focusing item appears to be internal. Specifically the Beldum line.
Beldum tend to be solitary pokemon, only evolving with the aid of others of their kind. Their metallic skin appears to only thicken as they evolve all the way up to Metagross. Only the most powerful of attacks can chip it. But they will be very protective of their claws. The claws on all stages of the family are a different metallic composition and many Metang and Metagross will clasp their claws together in a medatative state to recharge their powers.
While Beldum lack the dexterity (and appropriate number of limbs) to do this, some may "plant" themselves with their claws pointed towards the earth for similar reasons. As they are part steel type, be wary of any magnetic items in the area. I believe Beldum may do this to tap into the leylines throughout the planet, but further research is required
