hello!! for the watcher team— i hope you guys know that you are all extraordinary people who make incredible work!! i followed steven, ryan, and shane from buzzfeed to watcher and your videos have gotten me through some tough times. i met some of the loveliest people and found a truly wonderful friend because of you. i’ll always be super grateful for that!! 

your shows are so unique and so fun to watch, they truly make me so happy. the whole watcher team is so creative, fun, and talented. i’m so sorry for all the negativity you’ve been receiving, but please know that there are still so many people rooting for you!! i’m so excited for the watcher streamer and for everything to come ❤️

so the only mention of any of The Drama was when they were talking about going to the warren museum, and how they were told not to touch annabelle’s glass case. they were warned someone who did tap it later died in a car accident. so shane said he did fully tap on it but that got cut out of the final episode so people wouldn’t be encouraged to copy him lol

anyway he said he was like, ‘how long after doing it did they die?’ and joked that it was like six years. ryan was poking fun at him saying like oh so how long do you have left and shane pretended to think about it and said, ‘you know, i have a feeling it exactly six years ago on friday’ and that was literally the only mention of the whole thing lmao

Had an amazing time at ghost files live tonight!! Met some amazing people and the boys (and Lizzie) were fantastic!! There was no animosity which was great and y’all,,,,, are in for such a treat with the new season,,, the short clip we saw was fucking insane!!!!

Also!! They did live Too Many Spirits and everyone started to chant Chug at Ryan (he failed pretty quickly lmaooo) it was so chaotic. Lots of yelling and cheering for Greggs!

I think to sum it all up in what Shane said which is: ‘the only time we’ve had an audience as loud and ballsy as this one was in Florida’

Lol sorry I’m reblogging like every single post you have about the Watcher situation but you’re just so right on all of it!

It was so frustrating and upsetting watching all these so called “fans” (and probably a chunk are just people hopping on the hate posting trend bandwagoners) spewing all this hate towards Watcher and especially towards Steven Lim who has put as much heart and soul and work and stress into making all this beloved content for Watcher and trying to making it work for free for all these years.

It’s also just so disgusting to me that so many people who only like Ryan and Shane (and a lot of them really just Shane which is a whole other nasty part of the fandom I don’t wanna acknowledge) suddenly just disrespecting all of the cooking shows that Steven works on and is so passionate about because they perceive a 3-4 episode a season show filmed mostly in Steven’s apartment with a small crew as more expensive than something like Ghost Files.

I’m just kinda sad that the whole Watcher team had to see all this rancid negativity from people who claimed to love them for all these years and turned on them like they did something more wrong than announce and debut a streaming platform badly.

We need to talk about the Watcher "fans".

These are the top comments on Shane’s IG post. Just look at the number of likes.

“Steven Lim is a greedy, manipulative evil CEO that twists his white co-founder's hands and forces the said co-founder into his will!!!” – this narrative is being prevalent in this fandom since April 19. People harassed him all across social media on every platform. People wrote nasty comments not only to his social media accounts but also to his wife and friends.

People made a Change.org hilariously dumb petitions to have him leave the CEO post.

People gleefully demonize and tear down his reputation. Twist his words out of context in to something vile. Weaponize the years old inside jokes his friends made on camera.

“This is not racism!!!” they say. “These are just the facts!!!”

No they aren’t. And here’s why:

The Yellow Peril (also the Yellow Terror, the Yellow Menace and the Yellow Specter) is a racist color metaphor that depicts the peoples of East and Southeast Asia[a] as an existential danger to the Western world.

Fu Manchu is a fictional character created by Arthur Ward, a music hall writer and journalist in London in the early 1900s. Writing under the pseudonym Sax Rohmer, Ward had absolutely no knowledge of Chinese culture or Chinese people – but his invention of a Chinese supervillain struck a chord in Victorian Britain and became a smash hit.

Fu Manchu was the original fictional Asian villain, a trope which became embedded in popular culture and Western psyche spawning spin-offs, spoofs, pop songs, video games and even consumer goods. But how damaging is Fu Manchu and how much can he tell us about modern Asian racism?

Ward wrote Fu Manchu as the personification of the so-called Yellow Peril threat: exotic, alien and inhuman, a mastermind boasting degrees from top universities. Using sinister powers to control minds, he aimed to undermine Western civilisation.

Seven Lim being labeled as “greedy” “evil” and “manipulative” (of his white co-founder) is rooted in Anti-Asian racism. Whether people admit it or not.

Racism is not always derogatory slurs or white hoods. Racism is also casual micro-aggressions and putting people of color in the metaphorical boxes of harmful stereotypes. Racism is twisting the narrative and shaping it into a vile stereotype straight from the 19th century.

Also, let's not forget that people are happy to jump on Ryan in the similar way for the same reasons.

i wish people would have put the same amount of effort into streaming their videos as they did in the announcement video, most of their videos take weeks or months to hit a million views, if they do at all, and yet suddenly there is "drama" and there are over a million views within the same day.

i know 😔 but it's like you said anon, because there's "drama" everyone, including people who aren't even fans, will watch it because it caused 'controversy' so.. yea.

i hope the next videos they post, they get a lot of views (with no hate comments too like enough jfc)

im honestly so annoyed at the woe is me i cant forgive them theyve lost my trust thing some people are spewing cause a lot of it seems to come from a really weird place of having put these down to earth everyday guys on a pedestal and feeling resentful that their own skewed perception of them was "ruined." it honestly is so bewildering how these guys who have always shown they are respectful of their audience and care about them were turned on so fast and so viciously as if 8 years of goodwill means nothing. some people really cannot do anything other than obsessive worship where no one is afforded any leniency to be anything other than perfect at all times or outright vitriol.

sooooo fucking true anon. these people who are like 'i cant forgive them or watch them anymore' need to chill out and go outside for real. like was it really that serious.

putting them on a pedestal, or anyone for that matter, never ends well. and that obsessive worship really leads to people acting very entitled to the people they claim to like. i do not know how these same people who were hating on them a day ago are still gonna go to live shows and meet-and-greets and be able to look them in the eyes. the lack of self-awareness is unreal
