Inktober 21st!

After I made the sketch for this I looked through my sideblog for garashir things I’d reblogged. I came across this scene at least twice - as in Garak ranting about something over coffee or lunch, and Bashir either looking at him lovingly, or ranting right back. So it’s not all that original, but it’s just a nice image, isn’t it?

(It’s actually based on a Critical Role gifset of Travis as Fjord looking lovingly admiringly at Caduceus - spreading some wisdom no doubt.)

I find it fascinating that they let Legolas go on the journey, because speaking in terms of politics, letting the only known Prince of Mirkwood go on a life-threatening journey to Mordor, presumably, without letting the king of Mirkwood know, is batshit insane.

I love Rolan so much. The progression from pompous asshole to panicked big brother to grateful sweetheart, from disillusioned apprentice to brave and independent wizard… all of it is *chef’s kiss*. If Rolan were romanceable, I would make a new Tav for him so fast.

zevlor’s a hopeless romantic. bruised and beaten, but still achingly tender.

more than anything, zevlor’s a man of faith. that doesn’t necessarily mean religion, even if it once did. but devotion? belief? working, fighting, living, dying for a cause?

think about it. he was a hellrider, a title that a soldier would hold for life - literally. if you wanted to try to quite, you’d be given a suicide mission, and if you succeeded? you’d be stripped of everything you’d ever acquired and shunned as an outcast. moreso, he was a paladin, too - a warrior who empowers themselves with a promise, who draws favor from the gods through sheer force of personality. even moreso, he was follower of Helm, the god of guardians! every bit of living he’s ever done has been for was for the sake of protecting his city and his people.

(even if he wanted to prove the world wrong, that tieflings weren’t thieves and heretics, that doesn’t discredit the way he chose to prove the world otherwise: by giving all of himself)

and then Elturel fell to the hells.

we hear his thoughts in the depths of the mindflayer colony. it wasn't his oath that shattered, it was his faith itself - in the good of his paladin order and the people of Elturel himself. regardless of title or dedication, he was stripped of everything he'd worked towards, and cast out of the city for the singular crime of being born of infernal blood.

and at the end of the day, he still found the good faith to lead his people from Elturel to Baldur's Gate.

he's still a man that endeavors to do good. to bring goodness into the world of his own volition, to keep innocents and innocence alive in the face of so much tragedy. if not for himself - he'd undoubtedly see himself past the point of redemption - but for the good of others.

and it's not like he's naive or in-denial. zevlor is painfully, painfully aware of the way the world views him and his kin. it's part of why he endeavors so hard to do good, to prove the assumptions of the world wrong at every turn.

but it boxes him in, too. he goes to every length to present himself as the infallible leader and the wise paladin, no matter what he's lost or how much it hurts him to occupy a mockery of his former self, just so his people have something to believe in. and gods, do they need something to believe in after everything they've been through.

think about that type of man. brow-beaten, back-broken, stripped of every accolade and merit ever earned; and still endeavoring to make right, to be someone he thinks he's not for the sake of others.

think about that man, and tell me he's anything less than a hopeless romantic.

Alright, to ao3's soon to be arriving Wattpad Refugees, a basic guide to general user culture:

1.) Unlike Wattpads vote system that let's you like each chapter, the ao3 equivalent kudos only allows one per work. Everyone is generally quietly annoyed about this. To engage with each chapter, you're heavily encouraged to comment. Trust me, it makes people's day.

2.) Ao3 has no algorithm. By default it's latest updated work first. You can find things to your taste through searches, filters and tags.

3.) 'No archive warnings apply' and 'user has chosen not to use archive warnings' mean two very different things. No archives warnings means the work is free from any content that could require a warning tag (character death, graphic depictions of violence, non-con, etc). User has chosen not to use archive warnings means it could contain any of the warning content, be it hasn't been explicitly tagged. Treat it like an allergen. No archive warnings apply is allergen free. User has chosen not to use archive warnings, may contain traces or whole chunks of the allergen. If you're likely to have a bad reaction, maybe don't take the risk.

4.) Speaking of warnings, ao3 has very few restrictions on the type of work that's allowed. Whatever your personal thoughts or feelings on that are, thats how the site is. You're likely to run across some dark subject matters and a lot of people are uncomfortable with reading that. You're well within your rights not like these works and have your opinion on whether they should be allowed, but harassing the authors of such works (or any works) is more likely to come back on you than them. Ao3 operates on a strong policy of 'don't like, don't read'. Use the tagging system to your full advantage to only engage with the kind of works you want to see.
