Chapter 15
“What would you do?” a voice said in the darkness. “If he did remember you, what would you do?”
“How is that even a question?” Martin had said at the time, choking on the words so violently that Melanie reached out to pat his back.
“Okay, what about if he didn’t remember, but he liked you anyway?”
“What? What are you even talking about, you heard what he said.”
“He fell for you once. It’s maybe worth considering -”
“I can’t.” Martin buried his head in his hands, eyes aching as he squeezed them shut. “I can’t even think about it. It won’t happen. It can’t.”
The two of them sat there, each in self-made darkness, though Martin acknowledged that his was only temporary. Melanie patted him on the back again, as if to help him cough out all the tears. Behind his eyelids Martin watched sparks ignite and heat maps bloom from the pressure of his palms.
“But if he did,” she said again. “Would you want that?”
Briefly, Martin imagined it - a moment where Jon turned to him with soft eyes again. It danced in his mind, slim as the edge of a runaway kite and just as uncatchable.
“I can’t wait for that,” Martin said aloud, and let a crack form between his fingers, letting in the light.
I am so sick of the argument that people on the aromantic/asexual spectrum are ‘too young to know’ or ‘just haven’t found the right person yet.’

Any label, lesbian, bi, trans, anything, has a chance of being found to be inaccurate.
Someone who thought they were a lesbian can later realize they’re actually bi, and people are perfectly fine with them using that label.
AT THIS TIME, the label aro/ace spec speaks to them, so LET THEM HAVE IT. I don’t care if they’re fucking 11, if they’ve done research and feel comfortable with the label then they should be able to use it without being accosted.
I'm really glad to see that everyone seems to be having a good time with The Magnus Protocol, and my heart is very full with all the wonderful comments people are making, but I do need to flag something up.
For some of these episodes, a lot of folks are giving me credit for stuff I did not actually write. The cases for episodes 3 and 4 were both by guest writers, Graeme Patrick and Cole Weavers respectively, and they really deserve some love thrown their way.
That's not to minimise my own part: me and Alex certainly do editing work on them, and add in a few bits here and there to make sure everything cohesively fits in with the overall story and tone of the show, but if you enjoyed these episodes, then Graeme and Cole are the ones to thank for it.
And for that matter, Alex wrote episode 2 and deserves more of the accolades for how good that one was than I think he got (my edits just made it a bit... squishier).
Protocol is much more of a team effort than Archives was and so while, in a broad sense, you can still lay most of the blame for bad things happening to characters you love squarely at my feet, it's genuinely important to pay attention to the "written by" section of the credits this time around, 'cause often it's not gonna be my name there, and someone else deserves the thanks for giving you a horrible treat.
