bnha really would be so much better if bakugou was a girl...like, the potential!! katsuki thinking todoroki looks down on her because she's a girl, and meanwhile shouto finding mitsuki-san hot and being all like aha this has nothing to do with the fact that she looks exactly like her daughter, and then after the endless banter and mutual pining (and the river in egypt) the confession goes: I’m— all over your bullshit, or whatever (because that line was epic)
*yuris your yaoi* see doesn't that feel better.
but honestly the comedic potential is right there. it would change nothing significant. it'd just be more iconic.
also generally speaking i just think a lot of stories could be made more interesting by picking any relevant male MC and making that character a girl (cis or otherwise). aren't we all tired as a species of giving our most compelling narratives to the men. wouldn't we like to see a woman in those situations.

hi just wanna say that your tsh fics are amazing! the tone and language is so precise, especially with dear francois - are you planning to write a fic in francis pov anytime soon? your depiction of him is soo accurate and just wonderfully realistic overall <3
thank you! i don't know that i'd ever write francis POV- i think so much of tsh is in the fact we're trapped in richard's head, and his perception of francis is very particular. it adds a lot to francis that we only see what richard sees of him. plus i like writing francis knowing i know what he's thinking but richard doesn't and trying to mete that out so the audience might cue in too.

hello ao3 user shaekspeares 🥸
sooo basically i have the biannual tradition of rereading your tdbk fics and got around to it again this past week and god. you Get It so much. the characterization, the dynamics, the dialogue, the worldbuilding, the everything really,,, i have yet to encounter someone who understands tdbk like you do (and this obviously extends to the other characters as well; kirishima especially comes to mind!). i feel its trickier to do them justice in particular bc the way they would go about Feelings and Relationships is so ...nontraditional (lol) but the way you portray them feels right, feels like the natural progression of their characters and relationship. it just Makes Sense
i particularly enjoy reading ur bakugou pov- he's such an interesting critter and genuinely so fuckign funny BECAUSE of the horrors (read: his yk. gestures vaguely). also his todoroki induced uhm. tribulations are always deeply entertaining. i love to see that guy in a fit of despair ^_^
also 'stuck in BL trenches' has been my display name on discord for the last six months LMAO. forever changed the trajectory of my life actually, as your fics are wont to do :3
hello anonymous reader
this is all very fun to hear thank you. i love to Make Sense and Get It. and i think part of the reason ive stuck to writing this dynamic so long is because i find the characters funny even at their direst, so it's nice whenever people see the vision.
honored to have inspired your discord display name. i hope this will have ripple effects unbeknownst to all of us and change the world.

grim serious book rec?
also, you are incredible. your writing is incredible. it's not love i swear is like my cleft in the rock of the world to hide in
ha, okay. i mean, my rec tag in general i suppose (although i think most of them have some levity amidst the drama). like, it's called les miserables for a reason. and your baldwins and toni morrisons do not shy away from the peaks of human misery, nor do classical french novelists.
in terms of recent reads, i did read virgin suicides for the first time and that's not particularly peppy but is very readable. also in terms of spanish language- a gritty author i've actually enjoyed is lorca, specifically the plays yerma and bernarda alba. very grim stuff but very good and not without humor, unlike my most recent read which was about a cannibal capitalist dystopia.
and thank you very much re writing, that's such a lovely way of putting it.

Not only have you perpetually ruined all other papenathy fics for me but you have also raised the standard for references in fanfiction. ( More often than not references in tsh fanfiction are pretentious at best and simply inaccurate at worse.. ) I had so much fun researching all the various literary references, they enriched the story so much. I’m especially fond of the poem excerpt by Renée Vivien; I was delighted to find out she’s sapphic, and I can’t wait to get my hands on her poetry. Anyhow, sorry for the rambling, thank you for writing these lovely stories and I hope you have a good day :)
oh thank you!! i really enjoy the referencing part of tsh fics so i'm happy when other people connect to them too- especially when people are interested enough to look into the source material!! you have a good day too :)

weighing up the merits of getting into dune at some point
draws:
it could fill some of the succession-shaped hole re: morally compromised people doing terrible schemes in cycles they are doomed to repeat. also buying into their own mythos and flopping
as a rule i like big swing scifi critiques of imperialism that in themselves have complicated relationships with the subject matter
the lore seems insane and very funny
lot of weirdo characters with narrative tension to other weirdo characters (my bread and butter). like wdym bald austin butler and t chalamet should have been betrothed in a parallel verse but instead duel to the death. etc
the movies are visually decadent
drawbacks:
i fear i will feel compelled to read the books and i simply do not have the time for that
it’s been too long since ive engaged with big current trending fandom i dont know if i can do it

i don't know why i thought i'd done this already but despite lateness i feel obliged to set out my top favorite 10 movies of 2023*
in no particular order but with stars for extra credit:
⭐️anatomie d'une chute dir. justine triet
past lives dir. celine song
rye lane dir. raine allen-miller
all of us strangers dir. andrew haigh
across the spiderverse
killers of the flower moon dir. martin scorsese
the iron claw dir. sean durkin
poor things dir. yorgos lathimos
⭐️monster dir. hirokazu kore-eda
[cheating bc first time viewing] my cousin vinny dir. jonathan lynn
i think i saw like 50 films last year so this was hard (it's been a good stretch for movies!) but these are the creme de la creme.
dishonorable mention for worst viewings of the year: saltburn. and also love again, a disgrace to the good name of celine dion.
also for anyone interested in my longer takes on these, my letterboxd is @molieres :)
*i'm counting the ones i've seen in early 2024 because some of them got included in the past year's awards seasons run due to earlier releases in the us etc. whereas some early 2023 entries like tár and fablemans got on last year's list.

Your generosity conceals something dirtier and meaner. You're incapable of facing your ambitions and you resent me for it. But I'm not the one who put you where you are.

I hate when people use the phrase “what have I done” because then sweet jesus what have I done become a thief in the night become a dog on the run have I fallen so far and is the hour so late that nothing remains but the cry of my hate the cries in the dark that nobody hears here where I stand at the turning of the years if there’s another way to go I missed it twenty long years ago my life was a war that could never be won they gave me a number and murdered valjean when they chained me and left me for dead just for stealing a mouthful of bread yet why did I allow that man to touch my soul and teach me love he treated me like any other he gave m

hey! so you’ve mentioned francis’ sexual traumas a few times and while they are brought up a little bit in the book i still can’t pinpoint his exact situation. could you talk more about your feelings on the matter?
tw: sexual trauma and generally bad childhoods
yeah, canon really doesn't give us much about the wild life and times of its cast but it does crucially tell us about his childhood stay in what was basically an institution. and francis himself tells richard outright that the kids there were coerced to fabricate their sordid sexual misconduct just to placate the adults. from what ik abt that type of place back then & the subpar parenting vibes olivia gives i don't doubt francis was exposed to very adult concepts of sexuality, relationships, and mental issues way too young.
the rest of it is just me riffing on backstory, but i imagine given the kind of culture and society he grows up in, not to mention the inherent shaming and confusion in that space associated with his being born of his sister-mom (in airquotes) who had a teen fling with a nobody and then whisked him chaotically around the globe while his grandparents raised them both, francis has subzero shot of going into any relationships with a healthy mindset. not to mention hes growing up definitively gay in the 70s. all of his relationships are clandestine. the only canonical one we see is with an ambiguously straight guy who only hooks up with him drunk and we later find out said guy turns very ugly when he's drunk. and we know francis maintains that relationship long after all we see of charles-francis is charles abusing him verbally while francis takes it.
if we're veering a little further from canon my 2 cents are that francis' early sexual history undoubtedly includes very dubious firsts with people who should not be sleeping with him, closeted teachers or older students etc. i don't imagine his formative experiences were good for his psyche given what he settles for later.
that's not to say every single encounter he's ever had was mired in tragedy. he is evidently genuinely flirtatious and refreshingly frank about it for the times when you think about the moves he makes on richard- i would optimistically venture that this shows he's had fun with his flings too. maybe even charles, before it all went south. who knows what his relationship with kim was like before his grandfather caught them. but as a rule given francis Does live in fear of being caught out by his surrogate parental unit and his anxiety / paranoia is generally exacerbated exponentially by the murders i don't think he has a great chance of having had any meaningful, long-term, open-your-heart connections, at least not post hampden. not because historical gayness dooms you to furtive dark rooms but because that's francis' canonical cross to bear, at least by close of canon.

Hii, Could you give us any teaser/tropes you're going to include in Valley of Kings? And does that include any of these things:
Ser Bakugou in a ball gown
Tdbk riding on the same horse (doubling)
Knight rescues the Princess from the evil dragon but the roles are swapped (like in canon)
~ 🐈‍⬛️
haha none of those actually - give them some credit. in terms of tropes, hmm.... patching up wounds? mutual heroic rescues? sieges? dramatic unlocking of powers? keepig watch together? can't be giving too much away either.
