I think the fundamentals to then Ed-Roy dynamic is that Roy sees Ed as an teenager with nukes for hands who has to be VERY CAREFULLY AIMED and Ed sees Roy as decorative.
fghjk this is funny because
1. when mustang takes ed to the exam, the only thing he knows about this kid is that he’s committed a gruesome, disfiguring, extremely alchemically challenging felony
2. mustang has NO IDEA what ed’s gonna do. none. he has no fucking conversation with this kid, no plan for if this tiny child just freezes up on the stage and starts crying or whatever in front of the president because again, HE’S TWELVE
3. mustang @ ed: lmao just do whatever. i dont care
4. ed: [does whatever for 5 years]
5. mustang, continually: lmao fucking wild. Y’all see that? crazy. what a kid! Anyway nobody look at what I’m doing over here
in conclusion mustang’s like “This is a teenager with nukes for hands. Here, kid, have a million dollars and no fucking supervision! God love ya. That should keep the military occupied for a while”
and it’s so fucking great

Today, I learnt about psychological distancing, which is basically a tactic you use when you are panicking to make smarter decisions. You do it by talking yourself through the situation in third person.
And I started thinking about transmigration stories. Why is it plausible that someone who is just getting by or in other cases really struggling to get by will become a hero in a transmigration story. And yes a change in available resources and violently removing someone from their previous circumstances and putting them in new ones can cause people to alter the way they behave. But, I wonder if psychologically distancing does not play some role in it. They don't really identify with the situation enough to not be able to think rationally about it.

Ling Wen: *places his hand on the headstone and sobs*
Ling Wen: How could you do this to me? We are so understaffed.

Like I get that Fan Duobing and Wei Wuxian would get along excellent, but Li Lianhua and Wei Wuxian would have an intrinsic understanding of each other's disobedience when it comes to listening to those that care for them.

I can’t shake the feeling that Hua Cheng must’ve been so overwhelmed seeing the version of Dianxia he met on that ox cart. Like he would trust, support, and love even the darkest version of Xie Lian imaginable, but the one he ended up meeting, after everything, was gentle, sweet, adorable, delightfully silly, honest, and unguarded, ready to protect the old man driving the ox cart and share his steamed bun with a stranger.
Scenes from many gut-wrenching moments probably flashed before his eyes, yet here was his Dianxia, within reach. And they were just having a chat—not as a redacted and his redacted—just two people on a chance encounter on a beautiful autumn day. Hua Cheng’s heart must’ve felt so full that it was about to burst.
At the same time, he probably wanted so much more than having a casual conversation about the water tyrant. Imagine the amount of self-restraint he had to not just blurt out “where have you been??” “How have you been??” “Give me a list of people and creatures who have ever mistreated you in any way in the past 800 years…”

Hua Cheng using his powers to freeze Xie Lian in place while he beats a confession out of Qi Rong,
“Xie Lian. Honey. Sweetie. Light of my life. I love you so much, but right now I need you to shut up and let me handle this!”

I think this entire thing is very funny from Qi Rong's perspective.
You are just chilling in your cave, preparing for a dinner of humans and maybe sowing a tiny bit of discord between the gods and suddenly Hua Cheng, one of the scariest motherfucker on the planet (who you hate) is here with your cousin (who you also hate) and Lang Qianqiu (who you also also hate) asking about something that happened centuries ago and destroying your entire house and your body in the process.
He is really not having a good day.

The funniest thing in tgcf is the fact that somehow, qi rong is the best dad. Like. Qi Rong.
I mean:
-Feng Xin didn't even know that he had a kid and that kid is dead.
-Xie Lian says he's going to buy milk, fakes his death and comes back centuries later without the milk but with a new boyfriend and starts to give you life lessons. Also, 2 dead kids (Banyue and Lang Ying).
-You all know what Jun Wu did.
-Mei Nianqing: also went to buy milk, spent centuries away crying about his ex and painting. -10 points for not fighting fot xl's custody.
So, yeah. CONGRATS TO QR FOR BEING THE BEST DAD IN TGCF!! HE FINALLY WINS SOMETHING!!!!
