This is so adorable and I’m crying 💛💙
Anidala Week 2020: Alternate Fandom
(based on @quwhy-gon‘s lovely art).
Padme Naberrie can feel Anakin Skywalker’s short nails press into her hand ever so slightly as the note he’s holding is settled into her palm.
It’s nice, actually. Comforting.
Defense Against the Dark Arts isn’t easy for Padme. Transfiguration? Fine. Potions? Aced. Herbology? Easy. But for whatever reason, this is the class she struggles with, and the one that Anakin Skywalker excels in.
But then, he’s always been very good at defending others.
She peaks down at the note, in Anakin’s, neat, sprawling handwriting it says: “Astronomy tower after dinner?”
Padme smiles to herself and blushes just a little.
*****
It can be hard, sneaking away. As the Hufflepuff prefect, Anakin has a responsibility to get the younger kids back to the common room after dinner, but after he gets everyone in, he takes off in the opposite direction, heading up eight floors to the Astronomy Tower.
When he gets there, Padme is waiting for him, smiling.
“You’re late,” she tells him.
Anakin settles next to her and leans in, kissing her softly. “I live in the basement.”
“Well, at least it’s not the dungeon,” Padme teases. “And besides, it’s hard to sneak away when you’re Head Girl. You should be lucky I made it at all.”
“I am lucky,” Anakin smiles.
This is still very new, this thing that they’re doing. They’ve known each other since first year, but seemingly, since they got to school this year - their final year at Hogwarts - they haven’t been able to keep away from each other.
And so they’ve kept it to themselves, meeting after hours, and in-between classes. Sneaking away in forgotten corners of the library to be alone together.
Padme cuddles in against his side, enjoying the feeling of him being so close, and the view out in front of them. It’s a beautiful night, and there’s no one she would rather share it with.
“Coming to my game tomorrow?” he asks with a smile.
“Your game?” Padme giggles. “You mean the Ravenclaw Quidditch game where we’re going to kick your sorry Hufflepuff butts?”
“Wow. Fighting words,” Anakin laughs. “Just you wait, you’ll be eating those words, Naberrie.”
“Wanna bet?”
“I do,” she says primly. “What are the stakes?”
“If Hufflepuff wins you have to do my potions homework for a month,” Anakin smirks.
“No way,” Padme snaps. “You have to learn, Ani.”
“Fine. If I win…you kiss me in front everyone at the game,” Anakin tells her.
Her mouth falls open, and she feels her face flush.
“And if Ravenclaw wins, I’ll let you actually tutor me in Herbology, and I won’t spend the entire time trying to kiss you,” Anakin tells her.
She has to laugh at that, as she leans in and kisses him gently. “You’re on.”
