Spicy take but I honestly do not see Jane Austen novels as wish fulfillment in any way. I see them as social commentaries that show a fucked up system where the heroines manage to learn enough about themselves, their partners, and their societies (and the heroes likewise) to get the best possible outcome given their hugely specific circumstances.

There's had to been a day where Billy transforms in an alley where a few stray animals are scavenging n fucking makes their fur stick up on end.
