I sincerely hope this movie gets all the awards this season. Such an intelligent, fantastic, FUN movie! Please give this a watch

Watching Wendell and Wild, which is very good, but man I wish I had seen more synopses floating around with the gifsets so here’s what I’ve got so far:

Legitimately heartfelt movie about grief. It has spooky themes (and a lot of grossout moments with the demons fwiw) but it isn’t trying to be legit scary. It’s horror-themed but not a horror movie imo.

Death and mourning are prevalent elements. The main character has a PTSD panic attack early on and it is explicitly stated as a panic attack that is obviously connected to her trauma and is handled in a sympathetic manner.

Best friend character is canonically trans and the backbone of this movie tbh (he gets misgendered twice early on, fair warning)

I have mixed feelings about stop motion work but I will say that stop motion was the perfect choice for this in pretty much every respect. It’s very cool to me that the style is intentionally more cartoony, I haven’t seen anything quite like this with stop motion before. Visually, something like Paranorman and Book of Life come pretty close. It’s more like a living doll house than anything at times. Very cool.

Pretty much every character is legit deep and feels convincing. It seriously draws you into the world and makes it feel like a real place.

The core story is an anti-prison struggle that addresses a lot of real-world problems including corruption and vote weighting (also introduces some kindly but untrustworthy adults to further make it difficult for the main character to know what to do)

Main character makes some questionable decisions but they feel pretty understandable given the circumstances rather than her being dense like some narratives tend to do. She catches on and stands her ground more often than not.

Overall it’s a bit spooky, heartfelt, funny here and there, and surprisingly nuanced and thoughtful and well worth your time.

YES TO ALL OF THIS! Watched this movie with my boyfriend today and he noticed this too and spoke out how refreshing this was. This movie was awesome and I’m so glad someone already encapsulated my thoughts about this point so perfectly!

*Spoilers for Wendell & Wild*

Let’s talk about Siobhan‘s characterization,and why it is so refreshing.

As most of us know,media usually vilifes blond+rich girls,making them unredeamable or at the very least,rotten .But it isn’t the case with Siobhan Klaxxon.

Upon meeting Kat she greets her and,if not a bit annoyingly,tries to befriend her,oblivious to the main character’s discomfort,as seen in the picture.

Later on,when Kat gets her mark of a Hell maiden and freaks half the class with an octopus,Siobhan says to her friend group something among the lines of “this new girl is an interrupter”,which can be interpreted as “she doesn’t fit in,disrupts the usual flow of the lesson and I don’t like that”.From this,and the Raul’s admission of being friends with her pre-transition we can conclude that this character doesn’t perceive “unordinary”,and unknowingly tries to either reinforce the “normalness”(proposing to change Kat’s nickname and other attributes in order for her to fit in RBC girls) or withdrawing form it(her group not being friends after Raul’s transition).But does it make her the villain?No,it makes her oblivious to the harm she causes,which stems from her parents privilege and ignorance.

But later on,when she investigates her parents job and understands all the awfulness that comes with it(and what Kat went through) she breaks the cycle and embraces helps others in order to stop Klaxons deeds.After getting rid of her ignorance,planted by her family,she does what SHE thinks is right,not what OTHERS think it is.

So in conclusion,I totally agree with chewingsum’s post:

Also,I wanna thank the production team behind this movie for subverting so many cliches and making such a good message about doing your own thing after getting rid of something that held you down.In Kat’s case,it was her trauma,and in Siobhan’s-her parents perception.

I think this is so disappointing of Mattel. They sent @Lemonbaydoll and @thepapercostumier on Instagram and Etsy a cease and desist with their work. Tory, the paper doll creator I follow on Instagram had this really cool and cute paper doll series of grown up historical girls (in the time period they would be adults) and riffing with the girls’ outfits from the collections but newly styled to fit their new time period and adult status. Attached below is some examples- I couldn’t find a lot because it seemed it got wiped. It’s just unfortunate because while I understand protecting your artistic IP the paper dolls feels more in the realm of what Pleasant Company was than what American girl is now :/ anyways I’d love to hear all of your thoughts!

Hey all! I’m hoping that someone can help. Ms Nanea took a rather spectacular tumble and her face paint got some chips and scratches. Most of them are fine and I can either mask with some freckles (which I’ve been wanting to add to her anyways) but my big concern is her nose. It’s the most noticiable gash and I’m not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions would be amazing!

Lol this Try Guys drama is so wild. I remember in high school as the group was forming I remember loving them and watching all their episodes back in the buzzfeed days. I slowly stopped watching as I went to college but I would watch them every now and then. I remember being so inspired and proud when Eugene made his coming out video and just genuinely being so happy for their growing successes I would see from time to time around the internet.

But the hardest part and why this has hit me the most is that Ned was always my favorite. I loved that he so verbally adored his wife and built her up. I found their relationship so beautiful and it’s certainly a relationship that are role models to me and my lovely long term partner. It inspired me to see a man sing praises to his wife and so clearly adore her and eventually their two children. So to see this act of utter betrayal committed by the guy who has built his brand on being the “wife guy” to the point that due to his frequent mentions his wife became famous by association is just so fucking heartbreaking and disappointing. (Not to mention that Ned made Ariel famous through his utter adoration of her in videos and now she has to go through this awful terrible thing and fucking everyone knows who she is. And the employee that Ned was cheating with was a producer on multiple videos of extremely sensitive and vulnerable material that happens to feature Ariel (Ned’s wife) . So the other woman literally is producing video content of the wife doing things such as trying a mammogram, or breastfeeding. I’m so disgusted and appalled yall. The more I think about this situation and the more that comes to light, the more fucked up it continues to become.

I have two wolves inside me. One is a want of an AG doll from Utah since there is such a rich history of the state. The other knows that isn’t possible without discussing Mormonism and knowing with AG’s track record they would frame Mormonism with the only positive traits of the religion and skip over the disgusting and hateful parts without any criticism in the stories. There is so much bad about the church that it makes me sad whenever the church is promoted in only a positive light. As an ex Mormon knowing both through the Mormon’s dark history and the church’s present where the church is still actively spreading anti gay and other dangerous and hateful dogma.

Basically I would love a doll that was a Mormon pioneer but I know AG wouldn’t do her or the story correctly so I would hate it.
